Ashland will be in search of a new Head Football coach for next year. Coach Seder was non renewed last night at the board meeting.
Two things..first Coach Seder wasn’t always what Ashland needed, but he was there when form coach Valentine left them in a bad place by retiring at the end of a school year. He took over and did what had to be done.
Second, if you followed anything I have said over the past year, people around the program did not like the direction it was headed. Seder fired multiple long time Ashland assistants, and just didn’t seem to have the program going where it needed to. It’s also very hard to be a varsity head coach for two programs.
Ashland will now be in search of a new head coach. I would assume it would garner some interest in the area. Ashland has a very good Qb who will only be a sophomore next year. Hope they get this right.

Sounds like this came from the Super? Did the interim have an issue or was was he fed the info? This was coming with the change in the Superintendent at the start of the new year. Honestly a little surprised it happened this fast, but will give enough time to get someone in place to start offseason stuff.

With the off season contact that coach have today in sports, it is hard to believe a person can affectively be the head coach in to sports. Specially if they are touching seasons. Maybe a Fall coach could work a Spring position but I don't see anything else without a miracle staff.

Seder is a GREAT wrestling coach, probably the best in the area. After the first year there should have been a discussion about picking a sport. What do you want to do be the head football coach of the head wresting coach. Honestly I cant think of another school in the tri county area that has a head football coach that coaches another winter sport. I'm interested to see who applies. I have my list of people I would like to see.

I do believe Monroeville's Nester is their football and wrestling coach. It has to be so much time. Both sports are very time intensive sports and long seasons.

Has to be a hard double up for any FB coach to be the HC of a winter sport as well. How can you be really good at either one?

Instead of waiting for the Board meeting at the end of the month to make it official, Seder resigned his position as Head Football Coach as Ashland today. A search for a new head coach will begin immediately. Will be interesting to see who applies.

Seder fired a bunch of longtime assistant coaches and hired guys he was friends with that had very little coaching experience. Now is there people working in the Ashland district that coaches at another school that could have what it takes? Maybe. I would also expect some area head coaches take a look at this job.

I would be curious to know if anyone here thinks Valentine would apply? Local coaches who would be interested in my mind would be wanting to maybe move up to a bigger school if they are current HC's. So do guys like Mahaney, Haverdill, or even a spitler have any desire to do something like that? I know Lex kicked the tires on former Shelby coach Erik Will. Are there any Ashland grads who might be interested in coming back if they are coaching somewhere else in the state. I don't know if this is a huge reach but I'd think they might at least gauge Housewrights interest. This job should be attractive for sure. I'll be curious how it plays out

It’s interesting that last year on the OH Reports season preview Erik Will called Ashland one of the best jobs in the area. I’m not sure he wants to coach right now, but it is funny he said that. As for Housewright…AU just offered him the moon and he said no thank you. My guess is after the last two years he has had at Montana State, he is closer to being on an SEC coaching staff than back in Ashland. Will be interesting to see who applies. It did mention they only want someone with head coaching experience on the listing.

LOL, that didn't last long. I'm surprised Scott didn't know what he'd be up against at Madison, after coaching against them for years

If that’s true… I would think the Coaching search at Ashland is over.

Not that it was much of a surprise, but the search committee for Ashland has recommended Scott Valentine as the next head coach at Ashland. Pending board approval in February Coach V will be back on the sidelines in Ashland next year.

OH "shocked" one, the number of interviewees just doesn't matter.

Shocked. How many interviewed? I wish I knew. My guess is once the Valentine news broke of him leaving Madison, the application submission slowed down. I will be interested now to see who he brings on his staff. Many of the long time guys he has worked with have retired from coaching, I'm sure some of the guys that were fired from the previous coach will be brought back.

Looks like week 6 next year (September 22nd) at Ashland. The paper had an article this morning saying they had 12 candidates apply. They interviewed 3. They only interviewed candidates with head coaching experience.

I wonder if there will be a box of tissues left in the Madison locker room when they show up? I've heard Ashland is known for leaving things in visiting team's lock rooms.
