Rumor is he is heading back to Ashland and taking some of his staff with him. Can Madison find a worthy replacement? Is this an end of the line job? Considering Valentines staff was mostly made up of his former staff at Ashland that the former Ashland coach fired that seems about right. As for Madison I don’t know what they do. Honestly I think if your Madison you need to find someone that runs a system that is completely different from anything else around (Triple option…Wing T). They need to do something different because a lot of people have tried a bunch of things and nothing seems to work.

Remind me why he left Ashland? Article mentioned something about him wanting to watch his kids play college sports. I remember hearing he had 2 boys at AU playing football and wanting to watch them and maybe even some other family details he was handling at the time of his retirement. He was out for 3 seasons and wanted to still coach and Madison was open. A friend of mine who knows him well says he never truly wanted out of coaching, only that he had other things that took priority in his life. I believe in the article it even mentioned him saying he was not done, just taking some time off.

Haverdill taking on a new daunting challenge? Are you implying he has taken on a daunting challenge before? If so, what was that daunting challenge?

Haverdill applied at Clear Fork. Are you saying he applied at Madison? I have heard he did apply for that job. Clear Fork is understandable but why would he leave Crestview for Madison? Unless he is just chasing a bigger paycheck. I would think the year to year consistency at Crestview would be a much better place then moving to a traditional bottom league team and trying to compete. Even the Madison Ad has been know to say they do not have the athletes walking the halls they did in the past.

There is an article on him in the MNJ and is free online. Looks like a good hire based on his resume and the fact it’s not a sought after opportunity.

Brent Basancon is the new coach at Mansfield Madison. Seems like a solid hire.....but so was the last guy and it got them 1 win. On a side note, Ashland Board officially hired coach Valentine last night.
