I am a little surprised we are about to begin May and there are still this many NWO jobs open. I honestly believe it is due to the lack of (quality) applicants and those that want to be a head coach. When you think about it, and all that comes with being the head coach...is it really worth the $6k? You got to love it. Have a supportive family. And be willing to put up with some crazy stuff these days. HS basketball has turned into a 9.5-10 month job for a lot of schools. August and the month after you lose are the only months off really. on top of that, you are competing with travel sports year round anymore. Kids are being asked at some schools to prepare for fall sports in the summer, then attend some HS baseball stuff and open gyms and shoot outs for their HS team, all while juggling travel ball schedules. I think you will continue to see a decline in the amount of people who want to coach let alone teach with all the points you listed and then add in combating this travel ball mentality by all these current parents... its not exactly a place for anyone with thin skin. I would also add in that administrators have gotten softer and the reason they give is usually the need to keep the public happy to pass levies.

We long ago reached the point in HS athletics where parents have been made to feel like they have a voice in every daily aspect of running a program. I feel that a lot of that has to do with administration and BOEs being unwilling to tell them that they don't.

Joe Jakubick would be a heck of a grab for Ontario. Someone that Balogh actually respects and approves of. Now that Jakubicks son (Jared) has graduated from college. He needs to get back into coaching instead of just taking his daily three mile walk around the woodland area in Mansfield. You may want to speak to someone before you make claims about them.

Todd Friend has been vocal over the weekend that Carl Schnittke is who they would prefer to have. But as mentioned, he has no interest as of now. Always a good thing when your BOE president is going around publicly saying who needs to go and who needs to stay. Maybe Carl sees how Ontario head coaches are treated and wants nothing to do with it.

Sounds like Ontario has problems that are much deeper than hiring and keeping coaches. There are reasons Schitke is not interested. Maybe the Ontario board and parents should look in the mirror. I'm not sure what's going just speculation from an outsider.

Former Ram Coaches with tournament success: *Al Fendrick 175-80 (winning 24 tournament games) from 1929-1943 *Ron Barbo 141-72 (winning 7 tournament games) from 1977/78-1986/87 *Even Doug Rickert was a respectable 67-45 (winning 7 tournament games) from 2007/08-2011/12 Unfortunately, being "one of the good guys" which is what Mergel apparently was, doesn't pay off in big time high school basketball in today's world. Analytics & Tournament Results do. Not to mentioned Transparency between your HC and players determine a man's succuss. The Ontario board made the right choice in terminating/not renewing Mergel. Todd Friend has been vocal over the weekend that Carl Schnittke is who they would prefer to have. But as mentioned, he has no interest as of now. I have never met anyone who said Mergel was a good one. In fact I have never met anyone who had any interactions with him say anything positive. Honestly the only thing shocking about this is that someone at Ontario hired this guy in the first place. Probably should be the next person to go.

I think you're probably right sportsvideo. Seemed the team was performing pretty well given what he started with and where he ended, but I don't follow things super close.
Isn't Balogh's son coaching in Columbus? Might he be interested?

I wonder when parents are going to start going after the people responsible for hiring the coaches they do not like or have issues with.

Unfortunately, being "one of the good guys" which is what Mergel apparently was, doesn't pay off in big time high school basketball in today's world. Analytics & Tournament Results do. Since you mentioned it, even you would have to know that analytics and tournament results would first require talent.

Looks like a lot of openings to be this late in spring Yes. A very large amount of openings still. I am just interested to see who/how they fill all those. The girls side has quite a few as well.

Will Oregon Clay hire someone soon? What is that hold up.
I saw Rossford's hire was on their board minutes. Jonathan Reitz.

Tyler Tillman is the new coach at Ridgemont. He was previously their jv coach.
Brian Hargis will be the new coach at Bucyrus. He was their jv coach.
Galion is hiring Tyler Sanders. I believe that was already mentioned on the MOAC thread.

Tom Howell has resigned at Buckeye Central. Heading back to New London. Interesting. The New London job isn't listed as open. Did Endsley step down or is Howell not going back as the head coach?
