I'd say I watch +/- 100 Guardians games per season. Maybe not all 9 innings but a significant part of many games and my initial thought on the pitch clock is a big fail. I didn't see the Karinchak blow it last night due to the clock so that's not my reasoning. I told my wife while watching Beiber thru 4 that I didn't like this pace at all. Maybe it will grow on me.

As a batter they had to hurry-up and get back in the box and get ready, not much time to just collect your thoughts. And if a pitcher is in a rhythm and pitching quickly, there doesn't seem to be a way to slow him down too much. Baseball was built on not being constrained by a clock, and it seems like they've taken that away to a certain degree. Again, it's early, so maybe my thoughts will change as I get used to it. But my initial reaction is that I don't like it.

I don't think Bieber was affected, but players like Karinchak will have their careers ended by the clock. I see they made Karinchak get a haircut to speed him up. They will also have to tell him to stop flipping the ball in and out of his glove. I don't think he can successfully pitch without doing both. Mike Hargrove's career would have been a lot shorter as well.

I don't think we'll really notice the larger bases and lack of "shift" much but the quick pace for both the pitcher and batter was awkward I felt. WF you are correct that appeared Bieber handled it well. In general bullpen guys seem to be much more quirky. I heard an interesting idea on the radio today. How about a clock for say the 1st 6 innings then back to no clock? IDK

WF you are correct that appeared Bieber handled it well. In general bullpen guys seem to be much more quirky. I heard an interesting idea on the radio today. How about a clock for say the 1st 6 innings then back to no clock? IDK I noticed last night Bell had a hit taken away from him because no shift was allowed. Normally for a power lefty like him the Shortstop would have been 10 feet to the first base side of 2nd. Instead by rule he was 2 feet to the 3rd base side of 2nd. Bell hit a screamer RIGHT at the Shortstop where he HAD to stand by rule, not where the scouting report said he should be. You're right, we won't "notice" the larger bases. BUT the bases going from 15" square to 18" square, means 2nd base is now 4.5 inches closer to first base compared to past years. Think about all the runners thrown out at 2nd base on stolen base attempts that were only out by an inch or two on replays. AND there should be a challenge allowed on foul tips, at least when there are 3 balls on the batter. A Free Pass shouldn't be that free.

It will happen but there is a reason a scouting report said the SS should have over more.Because where would Bell most often hit it? Like I said earlier I think I'll adapt fairly easy to the larger bags and no shift but I hope can to the new pace. Time(pun) will tell.

Guards offense finally woke up in game 2. Kwan with 5 RBIs.

The first game loss was not due to a sleeping offense, more so a dominating pitching performance by the Mariners.
What was obvious in the 2nd game was that the Guards 6th starter and their 2nd line relievers were better than the Mariners #2 starter and their 2nd line relievers.

After the 2nd game of the season I was much more comfortable with the pace of the game.
What I'd like to know, since so many things are now being strictly timed and penalties handed out for violations to these times. Who is keeping these times? How does the pitcher, batter, catcher, managers and coaches know the exact second in the different countdowns happening in games?
IMO there should be clocks in stadiums visible to ALL players, managers and coaches that will be affected. I noticed in the first game the Mariner fans were loudly chanting a countdown. Did they know where the true countdown was or was it a ruse like is done in College basketball by student sections to hopefully F-up the opponents?

Can anyone explain why the ump called an infraction in the 8th on Karinchack which resulted in a ball?

Can anyone explain why the ump called an infraction in the 8th on Karinchack which resulted in a ball? I asked my son the same question and he said it was due to trying to quick pitch. He had been warned earlier in the bat. So you can't pitch too soon. But you can't pitch too late. Not a fan of the pitch clock.

LOL....the new rules make pitchers nervous, they have to pitch in a hurry not to get a ball called against them Karinchek has never quicked pitched anyone in his career. Slow pitched many. quick never.

Great outing today for Graham Ashcraft as the Reds beat the Pirates 3-1. 7 innings 4 hits and 1 walk. Only ER was a solo HR.

I never thought I'd see the day when a player that doesn't hit much over .200, never says boo and hasn't hit a home run in his major league career gets thrown at. But it happened last night to Myles Straw. I guess if you have to hit someone on the Guardians to send a message, you hit the 9th place hitting who is the best of the many base stealers the Guards have. The thing is, if you throw at a team's best hitter, he can't get even for a couple of innings. In the case of Straw, who gets 1st base for being hit by a pitch, he can immediately steal another base for his revenge. That's exactly what Straw did. LOL

An interesting tidbit from the Mariner's series. One of their relievers, can't remember his name, got the win in the State Title game each of his 4 years in high school. An amazing accomplishment.
