Curious to hear everyone’s thoughts on the upcoming season. The team to beat? The team that may surprise people? Coach Nasonti’s last year? Has Sbclives finally gotten laid?

Dan hasn’t posted in two months and one of the first things he mentions is me. I don’t feel honored.

I believe Perkins is the team to beat, but Lake Division is about deep Postseason runs. Pirates have to get away from finese to achieve this
Norwalk may get 3 wins

For the sake of it, I looked at TCC's track record during their most recent five year stay in D2:
2018: Lose in Regional Finals to Avon 2019: Lose in Final Four to La Salle 2020: Lose in Regional Semis to Avon Lake 2021: Lose in Regional Finals to Avon (42-43 in OT) 2022: State Champs (and they finally beat an Avon school along the way)
Besides the Marion Locals of the world, I can't recall many situations where an annual Regional Championship contender drops a division. They ought to be real comfortable in D3 after getting used to playing the Hobans, La Salles, and Avons of D2. It's a shame, because D3 has recently had a lot of public schools running the board. Kenston, Trotwood-Madison (over Mansfield, who has a much harder path to State if TCC is in R10 that year), Chardon 2x, Canfield.
I know nothing about Glenville, but the chatter I see says they are expected to do similar things in 2023 as they did in 2022. I myself am having a hard time thinking 2023 won't end with them winning another state title.
Which is a bummer, overall. Usually, I'm ok knowing 1-2 pre-season state title favorites. A Hoban. A Marion Local, etc. It happens, but never in the divisions for teams that I personally watch the most. Turns out, that is a buzzkill. It's like watching SVSM racking up winning margins that look like summer temperatures in their basketball D2 runs.

They'll beat Start and Rogers. Vermilion might have a chance and Eastlake North did go 1-9, but 4 of those 9 losses were one score games so I wouldn't count North out.

In the lake, it will be interesting to see how Perkins handles being hunted rather than the hunter. They will be the team to beat but it won’t come easy. Could see them dropping a couple games throughout the year. TC is the next choice with their skilled players returning.
Bay division should be pretty wide open. Could see a two or three way tie but Bellevue probably takes it.
Don’t know much about the river so I won’t comment.

Perkins is loaded, anything less than a league championship and deep playoff run is a bust with the talent they have coming back. Only problem is they will run up against Glenville at some point. Tiffin would be the one team that can knock them off.

I’m BAAAAAACK!!! Perkins 10-0 is likely, no worse than 8-2. Honestly only Clyde and “Ohio State” Catholic have a chance to knock the Pirates off. Seriously though, the SBC is a given for us. We’re more focused on a deep playoff run and the chance to play Glenville. Gave the Van Wert game away being conservative at the end. The young coaching staff has learned from that. VW had no answer for Rowe/Collier, but we bailed them out by settling for a FG. As for “finesse” takes, VW finished the game with 0 rushing yards and Pirates outgained them 434-212. Bunts will run wild this year with 3 returning OL, PLUS the Ziegler boys coming back home to fill the vacancies from Graduation. Good luck to all the area teams…..they’re gonna need it. I say this with the utmost humility 😆

Had me until you said Tiffin has a chance lol…Clyde and/or EC the only 2 close games in regular season. Perkins is loaded, anything less than a league championship and deep playoff run is a bust with the talent they have coming back. Only problem is they will run up against Glenville at some point. Tiffin would be the one team that can knock them off.

Some of their non conference is brutal Avon Akron Hoban Dinwiddie, VA. Defending state champion IMG Academy. Perhaps the best team in the country.

I still see 6-4. Complacency will be the theme for the Pirates this fall.

Nah, Don…off base on this one. Judging by the accuracy of some of your past takes….the Pirates may go to State. I still see 6-4. Complacency will be the theme for the Pirates this fall.

Interesting… FWIW I think they drop at least one game.
