Galion at Wynford (Thursday night) Ontario at Lexington Highland at Fredericktown North Union at Pleasant Lucas at Clear Fork Mansfield Senior at Akron St Vincent / St Mary Wooster at Orville River Valley at Ashland Shelby at Madison Marion Harding at Mount Vernon Louisville at New Philadelphia Triway at West Holmes Since several of these are MOAC vs OCC I figured we’d just make 1 thread for both. Thoughts on theses games…..

I will start with the Galion / Wynford game. Wynford won 2 of the 3 meetings while both schools were in the NCC. Wynford won 22-20 in 2011, Galion won 15-7 in 2012, and Wynford won 14-13 in 2013. The home team won each contest. Much has changed at both schools in the time since and Wynford is trying to get back on track after being down the last few years. Wynford’s Coach Cyle Skidmore’s son is a really good linemen who should provide an interesting match with Galion’ left tackle and D linemen. Galion returns a ton this year, and I’m cautiously optimistic heading into the season. That being said, it’s always nice to get the first game under their belt. I like Galion in this one.

Galion hearing word about an injured QB in Ontario but cannot confirm. Highland rolls NU would really enjoy seeing the Cubs walk off the field in the valley with a dub long ride home for the tygers who cares Ashland youth could do it I will say Shelby but I keep waiting for the rams to grab some excitement sometime hope the bands are good NP may take a couple weeks to get going

Galion at Wynford (Thursday night)- Galion by a lot. They should be at the top of the conference with all they have returning.
Ontario at Lexington - I like Lex here, but I think Ontario will keep it extremely close. Something like 28-24
Highland at Fredericktown- Highland 42-21. Nauman runs for 240 plus.
North Union at Pleasant- North Union, Pleasant is a mess with turnover and admin issues. Its wild how fast they have dropped off.
Lucas at Clear Fork - Lucas, by a score. Not sure what to think of CF yet, so I'll give the edge to the Cubs who do what they do at a high level.
Mansfield Senior at Akron St Vincent / St Mary- St. V wins this, until Senior can prove they can score points consistently. Especially against solid competition.
Wooster at Orville - Wooster, by 20.
River Valley at Ashland- RV graduated some key players, so I will take a rejuvenated Ashland to win this.
Shelby at Madison - Shelby with a possible running clock. Too much turnover in Ram country to upset the Whippets week one this year. I like Shelby to win the MOAC with Galion in a close second.
Marion Harding at Mount Vernon - Not sure here, I'll take MV based on recent history.
Louisville at New Philadelphia- Really not sure here, I know NP struggled on O a lot last year, and I will just assume they will again so I will take Louisville in a snoozer.

Galion at Wynford (Thursday night) -Have to go with Galion in this one. 34-14. Galion could be a dark horse in the MOAC. While Wynford may be still in a rebuild mode.
Ontario at Lexington -I have to be a homer in this one and take Lex. They have some talented underclassmen coming up. Plus I am hearing the Ontario QB is banged up. So Lex 24-20 in a competitive ballgame. Highland at Fredericktown - Have Highland winning this one 41-20. Highland right now is my pick to win the MOAC.
North Union at Pleasant - Don't know anything about North Union but I know Pleasant is down. So North Union 35-14.
Lucas at Clear Fork - Lucas in a close one in the valley in a close one. 24-22.
Mansfield Senior at Akron St Vincent / St Mary - the start of of rough 4 game stretch for the Tygers. SVSM 33-14. Mansfield Sr. may start 0-3 and then run the table. But West Holmes won't be easy in week 4 either.
Wooster at Orville - Wooster may be down this year, but Orrville is further down. Wooster 31-13.
River Valley at Ashland - Ashland and young quarterback take this one 28-14. River Valley has to replace Shidone.
Shelby at Madison - the Whippets are young and still may be a year away. But Shelby will handle the Rams in the end 28-10.
Marion Harding at Mount Vernon - this is a pick em game to me. I say Harding 22-21.
Louisville at New Philadelphia - until we see if the Quakers offense is improved. I have to go the Leopards. 21-7.
Triway at West Holmes- the Knights roll in this one 48-13 on their way to another 10-0 season. (Maybe) Mansfield Sr might have something to say about that.

Galion 7 Wynford 0 after 1. It rained steadily up until kickoff now has stopped although it’s quite breezy out.

Listening to the game on WQEL. The announcers have been calling the game actually fairly evenly thus far. Fake punt......yes !

Galion 21 Wynford 14 at halftime. Galion scored on a blocked punt and a kickoff return. Wynford scored on 2 long passes. Wynford to get the ball to start the 3 rd quarter.

The announcers are starting to skew towards Wynford a little bit. I miss the days (back in the day) when we had a radio station in Galion that would broadcast the Tiger football and basketball games. It's been a long. long, long time since I've heard a game skewed (radio-call-wise) towards Galion. I'd venture to say that goes for about 35 to 40 years or so ago. It's almost as if you have to listen to Browns games (being played in Cincinnati) called by a Bengals announcing team or an Indians/Guardians game (in Cincinnati) called by a Cincinnati Reds announcing team.
Meanwhile, the announcers of this game are getting progressively more biased. Geez.

Galion 28 Wynford 20 final. This is a slight surprise. Either Galion is not as good as I thought they would be at this time or Wynford is better then I thought they were after a 2-8 season last year.

Galion 28 Wynford 20 final. This is a slight surprise. Either Galion is not as good as I thought they would be at this time or Wynford is better then I thought they were after a 2-8 season last year. Probably a little bit of both. Wynford turned the ball over several times and Galion wasn’t able to capitalize. Galion returned a kickoff for a touchdown and blocked a punt and covered it in the end zone for another touchdown. They struggled to move the ball especially for most of the second half. They iced it with a shovel pass on 4th down late in the fourth quarter. On defense they looked decent for the most part, but they gave up way too many big plays. Two of Wynford’s touchdowns came on long passes that weren’t covered and the third one came on a long touchdown run. They did get several stops when they needed to. Galion’s quarterback had a rough night especially passing the ball. Only completed 2 passes but the second one was the touchdown. They really struggled to run the ball with much authority which was what was so disappointing. We will know much more about them after next week.

I also saw multiple penalties by Wynford in the first half that kept giving Galion first downs. I heard in preseason that Galion returned something like 15 of the 22 starters from a 6-5 team with HIGH expectations while Wynford returned less from a 2-8 team. I see that Wynford was picked to finish in 6th place by the media vote in the N10, but Galion is considered a contender for the MOAC title. Week 2 will provide much more, I agree.

I really thought Galion would dominate the line of scrimmage and get out to a nice lead and that happened once it was 21-7. But to Wynford’s credit they hung in there and it turned into a dogfight in the second half. Both teams played sloppy on their own way. I think Galion will come out looking much better against Carey next Friday, but it should give us much more clarity as to where they really are.

Both teams have things to work on. Galion has good size on the lines, but needs to utilize it better. Wynford was able to neutralize Galion's size and strength somewhat with their defensive schemes. Wynford was horrible on special teams. That being said, it was a good contest for both teams. I think Wynford will be a lot better this year than last. If Galion doesn't "come out looking much better" next week, Carey will take them down, they are loaded again.

I thought so to, but even when Galion scored the 21 points it had a lot to do with Wynford penalties keeping Galion O in the field and not because of the tiger play. This game was tight from start to finish and if Wynford doesn't keep moving the chains for Galion in the first half they could have been up. I really thought Galion would roll.

I assumed they would come out showing their experience but they both looked like week 1 teams. Next week could really set the tone for the rest of the season, so we can keep an open mind.
