Big game for both Lexington and Mansfield. Can Lex defense match up with Senior Highs speed?

It is amazing to me that the Lexington Defense has so many players in the News Journal stats for Tackles.
Gearhardt 116 almost 15 per game Stover 97 12 per game Pfizenmayer 73 9 per game Ammons 64 8 per game Galat 60 7.5 per game
For a total of 410 tackles by these 5 men this means they are getting 51 per game. So does this mean nobody else tackles and they are ball hawks if this is the case I am shocked any team has scored on Lex this year sounds to me like somebody does not know how to count a tackle. You do not get credit for being around the ball carrier you get it for dropping the player. Maybe Mansfield will have a better chance of getting by these 5 would not suprise me to see the stats show the top 2 players with 135 and 110 next week if not more. I am questioning the validity of the defensive stats I mean I can see one player being a standout and having a ton of tackles but not 5 and how many plays do these teams they play run in a game 75 or more come on spill the beans somebody is not keeping accurate stats down there

Those are crazy numbers, and probably . With each team keeping stats for themselves, you have to take the judgement stats in the proper way. Catches, passes and runs are unquestionable. tackles, sacks are depending on who has the pencil. And interceptions are debatable in my book if a ball bounces off a receivers hands or chest it is arguably not the QBs fault.

I don't know why but I have a feeling Mansfield wins this game, and I think the game will be closer then the score will indicate. Lexington has not given up more then 17 points all year, that ends Friday night.

The easiest way to pad your stats on tackles, is to be the last one that gets up off the ground when there are multiple players in or around a ball carrier when he's stopped.

If they give every tackle to the last guy up they need a new stat guy.

Lex does do a lot of gang tackling ar the line of schrimage. I agree though they do need a new stat guy.
I think if Lex can contain Benson they can win the game. I'll say something like 26-21. Go Big LeX!!!

I have never taken stats but if you and another player tackle a runner is that a 1/2 tackle for each?

After watching Lexington play Wooster, I think their defense will win this for them. I believe they can contain Benson. Wooster did last week and I think that was key to the game. On the other hand, this season in the OCC has had some strange turns.

How can the top two tacklers on Lexington both have over 20 tackles last week with a running second half clock. Benson hopefully will get 200 yards and 5 touchdowns but the stats guy will still give those awesome tacklers 15 to 20 next week. Just so we are clear Awesome Tacklers is sarcasm

I have never taken stats but if you and another player tackle a runner is that a 1/2 tackle for each? Think about the last play in OT for Ohio State last week. Who do you credit for the tackle? For the tackle behind the line of scrimmage? For the sack? I've seen it multiple times and it sure looks like all 4 D-linemen got there at the same time. Can one player get credit for all of the 3 mentioned? Do you give credit to all 4 for a sack? Do you unfairly give 1 of the 4 credit for a sack, then give 1/3 of sack to the other 3? The kind of play I was joshing about. A running play in an A-gap, that is stuffed. 3 D-linemen 2-3 LBs are in the pile with 3-4 O-linemen and the running back. Who gets credit for the tackle? Most likely the guy at the bottom of the pile. Thus, if in the pile, don't be in a hurry to get back to your feet.

How many offensive plays did Senior run in this game? We know that 1/2 tackles are awarded, Galat has 1.5. The total is 71.5 tackles, between less than half the defensive and special team players. Which is a huge number. It looks like a lot of 1/2 tackles are given and multiple 1/2 tackles/play.

Two fewer half tackles, still a large number considering less than half the defensive players had them.
How many offensive plays did you say Senior had? The single most pertinent number.

Read again. The discussion was about the number of tackles 5 players on a team had. I updated the discussion.

Read again, then there was a question of the validity, since so many had so many. In the game you gave tackle stats, a critical stat to continue the investigation would have been how many offensive plays Senior ran. Be that if you must.

Where did I say anything SHOULD be posted??? That's silliness. I said it WOULD have helped. Comprehension level is poor or desperation to continue your admitted internet games.
