scooty Dude MUST be an ex-coach or a spouse. He/she knows more than anyone from Galion about their coaches and administrators. You're probably right

Knowing something from talking to individuals involved has no relevance to either individual's residence.

Who would talk more to "individuals" that have knowledge about Galion coaches and administrators than someone high up in the Galion athletic department or admin?

gt1975, you would not have to be the one the galion AD talks to the most for him to tell you about his coaches.

Well I just read his (Coach Valentine's) quote in the Galion's paper today...said he's looking forward to next season and he has a plan for the boys. Soooo that is possibly suggesting he's coming back. Sounds like all the talk may be premature.

gt, you would not have to be the one the galion AD talks to the most for him to tell you about his coaches. I agree. It just seems like you have been making a lot of excuses for the administration and coaches. Usually that happens when people are secretly the ones involved or are close to the ones involved. But you said you're not so I believe you... Just curious though, are you from Galion or just know people in Galion?

I feel the best person should be hired for the job and questioned this hire, until I found out many(if not all) of the "qualified" candidates withdrew. I make no excuse for this coach or any other and do not support all the actions this program has gone thru between admins, coach, parents and fans. I will say this is a normal in most schools today but some get less mention is they are winning some games. I once had family in Galion, I know a number of people in Galion, who have worked or do work in Galion, who teach or have taught in Galion and who coach or have coached in Galion. I have no intent to speak poorly of Galion schools or sports. I still think it would be terrible to advertise and interview coaching applicants for a position with the idea if someone new is not hired, they would give the job to the previous coach. Even the best high school coaches could be replaced if the right applicant applied.

Forced out to a better paying gig? Chris told me he always wanted a teaching position at Galion. He wasn't happy that he could never get one. He wasn't happy that Galion wouldn't spend money on the football team. So I say "forced out". He was ecstatic that Ontario pumped money into the program when he went over there. I understood how he felt. Head coaches put a lot of time in with their team; I would think they would want support from the administrators.

gt, you would not have to be the one the galion AD talks to the most for him to tell you about his coaches. Me??? talk to the Galion AD??? ha! The guys doesn't even say "hello" to me when I walk by. LOL The only conversation I've ever had with that guy was when he told me I couldn't appeal the decision on Chase's first game suspension with those 2 recruiting violations. Then Chris (Hawkins) appealed it and got his suspension dropped by one game. The second time was when he called me and told me to not say anything to the paper about the investigation on Bright ...and that we were having a meeting that night in the cafeteria about the parent's allegations. So no I haven't had good interactions with the Galion AD nor the principal who I called 3 times and left messages with...by the third time begging him to call me back I about a situation with a teacher's policy. I just wanted to talk to him about it. He NEVER called me back. So no I don't have much respect for people like that...cause in my eyes its called being a professional (that basically is reference to the principal). I'm going to be honest here, the meeting in the cafeteria about Bright...started off good, but when the principal started chiming in that he couldn't have a basketball coach who used curse words. That he wrestled and his coach never cursed and that they would have nothing like that in Galion, I knew Bright's time was short there, as a basketball coach. Bright reminds me of the Colonel Crawford coach. Though that coach is insane, but a darn good coach.

I would guess that our football team gets more support from the administration than any other team in the the district. Not only do they get the most financial support but they also get support from administrators because they actually show up for the football games. I don't know if you noticed but at the basketball games there was usually just one HS administrator there (AD, Principal, or Superintendent) and that is because one is required to be there. I think there were 3 games where more than one showed up. And I did not see a Board Member at ANY of the games. I'm sure that most if not all of the Board Members made it to several of the football games. The support that the administrators give to the athletic programs is pathetic.

Unfortunately, Galion puts a cap on how much experience pay they are willing to offer a "new" teacher regardless of how many years experience they have. Hawkins would have had to take a pay cut to teach here. But make no mistake about it, had he been willing to they would have had a teaching job for him. This is the same reason that several of the candidates to replace him withdrew as well.

Sounds like the Galion contract may be limiting the quality or experience of the teachers they have apply. If you have a teacher with 15 years wanting to go to Galion but they will only give credit for 5 years of service it could hurt. Big picture it could be hurting the students education if they can only get lesser experienced teachers to apply.

I don't know about that one. I know the Galion coaches and parents really put for the effort. The parent support group for football is amazing!!! The BEST! But money for the football team by the adminstration, I can only tell you what Chris told me. He did not like the administration's support..I know they talked about a new field. He wanted a camera on the goal post for filming practices. I know I met him last summer at a graduation party, and he was telling me all the money Ontario had just spent on his football team. He was very happy about it. So I'm going to have to take your word for it. I don't see or know all that goes on behind the scenes. I can only tell you what Chris told me.

He just told me he was waiting on a position to open up in Galion. He said "if" he couldn't get one; he didn't know what the future held for him Galion. I honestly thought he might leave two years ago when Chase came there. I would not have been happy. LOL

Bellevue fans and parents would probably help Rich pack if Galion would take him back. His 2 teams at Bellevue certainly didn't improve as the year progressed, and if they didn't play a sheet cake schedule, he'd have about half the wins he does have there.
The problem is that he's a Bellevue boy, as are 75% of the staffers and administrators, so he's as safe as a babe in it's mama's arms.
How can the Superintendent be married to the AD? Can you say potential conflict of interest?
They sure have the nepotism game cornered there.

I'm sure most Galion fans would love to have him back. Our AD probably wouldn't hire him though since they're not buddies, LOL.... Superintendent married to the AD??? That's definitely a unique situation, LOL

I've never met a coach yet who thought he was getting enough monetary support from their district. That's why they have parents clubs, booster clubs, and do fund raisers.

Galion's parents club for football typically does a really good job of raising money for the football program. Also, the youth football program brings in pretty good money for the football program.

I thought that the youth program was pretty much their own entity. Are you saying that they raise money for the varsity as well?

I have been told that they help pay for things for the football program. I'm not sure if they technically raise money for the varsity, they probably fund things that benefit both programs which helps a lot.

I have known other youth programs that will regularly make a donation to their high school programs for support.
