Where would you rank these teams in the pre-season as we start to ramp up the basketball season? South Central won last year but lost a couple of Seniors that will likely be replaced by Freshman.
1. Western Reserve 2. New London 3. South Central 4. Mapleton 5. Crestview 6. Plymouth 7. Monroeville

SC returns 3 senior starters that have been playing varsity since freshman year. Other starters are a junior that contributed last year. Point guard is a freshman, but was the best player in junior high in FC. 1. SC 2. WR 3. NL 4. SP 5. Crestview 6. Mapleton 7. Plymouth 8. Monroeville

Typically at small schools if you can put together 3 kids with 4 years of varsity experience you should expect a good season.
It is crazy how Plymouth has dropped. That can be the other side of the coin if you are playing multiple kids for 4 years you are not developing kids during that time.

Very good point scooter. SC went 12-2 in the FC two years ago. Only FC losses were to Plymouth. They had nobody to match Edmiston physically. Then last year SC won the FC. I expect a 3 team race between SC, WR, and NL. Monroeville should be in the 8 spot and 4-7 could end up in any order.

Does WR have by far the best player in the league, a Sophomore, and arguably the best coach in the league?

WR soph averaged 16 ppg last year. Barone at Mapleton averaged 18 ppg. Lane at New London 15. Stevens at Crestview 15. Wilhelm and Ponchel at SC 15 each. So hard to say the WR soph is "by far" the best. He did win POY last year, but wasn't the leading scorer in the conference nor did his team win the conference so i'm not exactly sure how that honor was awarded. No doubt the young man is very talented but there is alot of hype as well.

Were Barone, Lane, Stevens, Wilhelm and Ponchel all Freshman last year?

No they were not. As i said before, the young man is talented. Not denying that. I would just argue against saying he is "by far" the best. I was surprised that the POY wasn't the conference's leading scorer or the main player on the conference championship team. Lane from New London averaged a double double for the year.

Hoops, I have to agree with you, even though the WR Freshman is talented, I would not have voted him player of the year last year. This may not be fair to the kid to say, but because of all the hype, the first time I saw him play I was a little disappointed, although all the hype about him is surely not his fault. Not trying to insult the kid because he very well could be the MVP the next three years, I just would not have voted for him last year.

"No they were not", is all I need to know. How many Freshman average more than 16PPG even in a small school league? A Freshman who averages 16PPG has to be the best player in a league. I could care less, but if there's a league draft today and I have the first pick it wouldn't be too bright to pick someone other than a Freshman that averaged 16PPG......unless you're the Browns. JMO

I agree hoops, MVP is a season by season thing. Not what you will have for the next 3 years. Typically the MVP of a league does score the most ppg but doesn't have to. But it surely doesn't have to go the youngest player with a high ppg average.

After watching last nights NL at WR game, I would vote Ryan Lane for P.O.Y. and Tom Howell as Coach of the year. I know its early but NL looked very impressive last night.

Yes it is early but Lane is definitely going to be a top contender. He should have been P.O.Y. last year in my opinion.

The FC is going to be a lot of fun this year. I think anyone could beat anyone on any given night. There is probably only one, maybe two no doubt lock wins in the league this year. I'm looking forward to catching as many games as I can!

LANE will be the player of the year in the FC this season. Griffith is a nice player but not at Lanes level yet. He will be next year when he is fully healthy but this year its LANE.

FC records: NL 6-0 SP 4-2 SC 4-2 WR 4-2 CV 3-3 MPL 2-4 PLY 1-5 MON 0-6 Only a slight surprise would be New London. Had Western as a favorite but the Griffith injury to much to overcome and NL has taken advantage of it. I cant see NL losing two game lead with really only 4 competitive games left for them. Should be a good battle for 2nd place.

Hoops, agree with your above comment, but New London did beat Western at Western with Griffith playing.

Hoops, agree with your above comment, but New London did beat Western at Western with Griffith playing. Yes New London beat WR with Griffith playing but not healthy. He has never been better than 75% all year and that makes a big difference in my mind. Not saying NL cant and wouldnt of beat them with Griffith, just that a healthy Griffith makes Wr alot BETTER.

Hoops, my bad. I did not know Griffith was playing hurt that night. I still think New London would have won on that night.

DOnt look now but with Western upset over New London last night. St. Paul and Western sit just 1 game behind the Wildcats with 6 to play. Western still has Sp and SP still has NL and WR left on the schedule. Could be an interesdting finish
