Marion Harding at Pleasant Harding takes this one. Pleasant too inconsistent and Harding looking for a bounce-back after Ontario.
Shelby at Ontario Ontario is on much too big a roll for Shelby to stop. Even if SHS plays over their heads, the Warriors just overmatch them.
River Valley at Galion RV in a close one. The Tigers record in big (meaningful) games as of late has not been very good at all. What was once a promising season for the Tigers has devolved into a "500" season. Ugh.
Highland at Clear Fork Highland will prevail, but it will not be by a lot.
Lexington at Madison Lex will take it (by at least 18 points).
West Holmes at New Philadelphia New Philly loses this one. West Holmes has more firepower and a better O and D line.
Wooster at Ashland The Arrows at home and fighting for a better spot in the playoffs = win. Wooster couldn't figure out how to beat Mt. Vernon two weeks ago, even while playing them at home. The Arrows take it.
Mansfield Senior at Mt. Vernon Senior has momentum and the Yellowjackets, after having just lost to Madison, don't. I'll take MSHS.

Marion Harding at Pleasant - Pleasant continues to win games nobody expected the Spartans to win. PHS grabs another W. Shelby at Ontario - Shelby lost late to R Valley and then came from behind to beat CF. Take the Warriors as they clinch the MOAC title outright. River Valley at Galion - Two teams going in opposite directions. R Valley continues their late season winning streak and climbs above .500 on the season. Highland at Clear Fork - CF struggles continue in week 9. Highland gets the W. Lexington at Madison - Madison gets a W last week but back to reality this week. Lex big. West Holmes at New Philadelphia - West Holmes by 2 tds. Wooster at Ashland - A tossup in my mind but I will take the Arrows at home. Mansfield Senior at Mt. Vernon - Senior wins easy! Tygers by 3 TD's

Marion Harding at Pleasant- I too like Harding in this game. I think Pleasant has the ability to upset Shelby in week 10 though if Shelby looks past them to the playoffs. However, I think that Harding wins this game by a score and continues to show improvement.
Shelby at Ontario- Should be a dandy, how will Shelby handle being the Hunter instead of the hunted for a league title? It will depend on how Ontario handles being the hunted. If ontario can limit Shelby's possessions similar to RV then I like their chances. However, the more times Devito and company touch the ball, the better the odds they will put up 40 plus. My heart says Shelby by 2 scores but my gut says Ontario in a one possession game.
River Valley at Galion- I think this will be another great game. How healthy is Galion this week? I think they can out physical RV but I like RV to win simpoly because of their ability to put up points.
Highland at Clear Fork - I wanted to take CF in the pick em this week. I think they looked a little more improved last week, but man what a tough year in the Valley. Highland beats CF and continues a very forgettable season in the valley
Lexington at Madison - Lex! by 2 scores
West Holmes at New Philadelphia - Can NP slow down that WH offense? If they can slow it a little, I like them to win by 2 scores. I think this will be the game of the week in the OCC
Wooster at Ashland- Ashland wins this one close.
Mansfield Senior at Mt. Vernon - Senior will be able to work on their basics in preparation for the post season. Running clock

I haven't lost faith in Shelby. Ontario takes their 1st L. And, if I'm wrong, I want my Crow medium rare with sautéed mushrooms and caramelized onions. No sauce required if it's really good

Shelby's two losses have been to teams with athletic, quick quarterbacks (Bellevue when LAPata was healthy and RV). Shelbys d-line is big and strong but slow. Last year's last seconds win at Shelby turned the Warrior program around, IMO but Ontario has not faced a multi-talented team like Shelby this season. Who wins? Not sure but I think ole Mr. Momentum will have a huge effect on the outcome.

Shelby is a good to great team. Not necessarily excellent. I would say Ontario is great bordering on excellent, depending on how one defines excellent. Ontario has certainly done what they can with their schedule: win the games in front of them without much worry. Would they do the same with Perkins' schedule? It isn't likely they would, but I won't discount the possibility that Ontario would hold up fairly well in that situation. Ontario pitching four shutouts is hard to overlook.
Good/great teams can lay an egg on occasion. Shelby laid an egg to a 2-4 RV team that could easily wind up 6-4 at the end of the year. Swap the results of an OT game with Ashland and take a bigger look at the Tiffin game, and RV is sitting at a respectable 7-3 status in a different world. My revisionist history says Shelby didn't lay all that big of an egg at all. Just a loss on the road to an above average team where several Shelby mistakes made a difference.
If RV can knock off Shelby, I think Shelby can knock off Ontario. There have been plenty of games this year where Shelby played well enough to beat Ontario in the same night, and the Whippets are a total 6 points away from being 8-0 as well.
I just hope the outcome of the game behooves Shelby to avoid Glenville in Region 14 seeding. I have no care to see what Glenville is capable of doing. Give me a neutral site game in Bellevue/Tiffin/Clyde against Perkins over some hike to Medina or beyond.

Would it be wrong to say defining excellent should include at least 6 playoff wins? We've seen many 10-0 teams end up 10-1 or 11-1. Finishing a season 13-1 or even 12-2 could be excellent.

Marion Harding at Pleasant- Should be a decent game, ill take pleasant by less than 10 Shelby at Ontario- I hope it lives up to the hype... Shelby wins on a big play late by devito. River Valley at Galion- game of the unknowns/inconsistency... RV by 2 scores Highland at Clear Fork- Clear Fork had a spark last week and hung tough on Shelby, but i think the spark goes out this week. Highland by 14+ Lexington at Madison- Madison's season highlight from last week does not continue, lex by 17+ West Holmes at New Philadelphia- WH offense proves to be to much for NP, WH by 14+ Wooster at Ashland- Ashland in a close one Mansfield Senior at Mt. Vernon- Seniors only competition will be themselves as this is a test of execution, especially after the loss Mt. Vernon had last week. Senior by 28+

I think that matches my viewpoint pretty well. If a team isn't winning state, then the "could be excellent" with a 13-1 or 12-2 season should pass the eye test. I use an inordinate amount of context to make my decision for such a team. Who you run into during the playoffs matters. Whether or not you were the definitive best team in the north central Ohio corridor matters. The 2016 and 2017 Whippets went 11-2 and 13-1 and gave Steubenville as much of a challenge as anyone those years besides teams like Bishop Hartley. In 2017, I think Shelby was the only team that had a 4th quarter lead on Steubenville the whole season? Takes an excellent team to achieve that against a 15-0 state champ. Anyone from Mansfield to Sandusky would happily have Shelby's resume that season. Van Wert last year comes to mind as someone I'd call excellent. They went 12-2. One loss was to Wapakoneta by 1 point on an absolute circus play with time expiring. The other was to Glenville 42-33. The only other teams to score 10+ on Glenville was 21 by Avon and 14 by Olentangy Liberty. Pretty excellent of Van Wert to achieve that. A look at the 2001 Warriors shows they went 11-1. In playoffs, they beat RV 42-0 and lost to an 11-2 Margaretta team with the final score of 13-6. That isn't so excellent to me. That's a good Ontario team that lost to another relatively local team. Another example with that would be the 2017 Clear Fork team. They went 11-1 and lost to a Bellevue team that Shelby steamrolled twice. Not very excellent of the Colts to have a season end like that. If the 2023 Warriors were to go into playoffs and handle someone like Ashland with ease and then beat a team like Tiffin/Mansfield before running into Toledo Central Catholic and getting smacked, I would feel a little petty to suggest it wasn't an excellent Ontario team we saw this year. Considering the only teams to beat Tiffin/Mansfield this year are either serious state contenders or a 4-4 SVSM who is playing an outrageously difficult schedule, I think Ontario would get a tip of my cap.

Marion Harding at Pleasant- Pleasant has been somewhat of a surprise this season. It continues this week. Spartans 29-21 over the Presidents.
Shelby at Ontario - should be a classic. A game my friends and I will be attending. Ontario is playing very well and should win this game at home. But Shelby will steal the show as the Whippets take this one 35-31 over the Warriors in a close game.
River Valley at Galion - I was on Galions band wagon earlier this season but injuries and inconsistent play has hurt the Tigers. River Valley is a puzzling team. But I'll take the Vikings 28-21.
Highland at Clear Fork- Highland is another team that has been kind of disappointing this season. But they take care of business against Clear Fork. Fighting Scots 35-19 over the Colts.
Lexington at Madison- nice to see the Rams get the win last week. Lexington played well enough to win last against New Philly. I'd like to have 3-4 plays back last week. But as for this week the Minutemen win big over the Rams. 35-6
West Holmes at New Philadelphia - could be an interesting game. It would surprise me if the Quakers won this game. But I'll go with the Knights 35-27.
Wooster at Ashland- I'll go with the Arrows at home. Wooster's struggles continue. Ashland wins 26-13 over the Generals.
Mansfield Senior at Mt. Vernon- The TYgers dispatch of the Yellow Jackets. As Mt. Vernon continues there farewell tour though the final OCC schedule. TYgers 48-6 over the Yellow Jackets.

Perkins does it in a more balanced fashion, but they’d crush Shelby just as well as Glenville. It’s not the lesser of evils you may think it is lol Shelby is a good to great team. I personally would just much rather lose to someone who is playing with the same deck of cards as Shelby is using. Glenville is playing Texas Hold 'Em with a Euchre deck. I'm not of the opinion that Glenville is secretly/not-so-secretly breaking rules or anything...but it is certainly not a method that other teams can duplicate.

Shelby was up 15 mid second quarter (went for two on their third TD). They faked a punt on fourth down in Ontario territory. The pass was catchable, but there were two receivers in the area and the one it was thrown to thought it was to the other receiver. Ontario puts up a quick score. Then Shelby’s drive stalls and Ontario gets another chance and scores again. Shelby stalls once more and Ontario finishes the half with a 37 yard FG.

The officials have made some bad calls, but Shelby is also shooting itself in the foot. I’d guess almost 100 yards in penalties. I think Ontario has one roughing the passer.

I rescind my previous comment about the officials. They’re bad. The difference in penalties is now statistically unlikely.
