galiontigers, When you said to bad it's only a D-III school, please don't knock D-III down. There are some professional football players and some coaches to that graduate from D-III schools. There are others who played other sports like baseball, basketball and other sports that came from D-III schools. Hey! I thought that was "DUDE" who did that? ME? haha! I see where you quoted me on it. Basically what I meant was NOT the level of play. It's having my son, Chase walk away from college paying for a $60,000 degree in 4 years at BW. I'm not paying for it. I told all my children, you either get GREAT grades in college and get an academic scholarship or you better be an athletic stud and get a athletic scholarhips...OR join the service, preferably the Marines. ha! ....cause daddy-o isn't paying for college. I got 4 damn kids; I'd be broke. haha! If he would have gotten a Division I or Division II college, college would have been paid for or "most of it" paid for. It wasn't lack of talent...lack of grades. ha! So he keeps moving forward and is thankful he can still go to college and maybe play a sport he loves too. From what I saw from attending 4 college games last year is there is no difference in play between Division II or Division III football. The only difference I saw was size on the line, except for Mount Union. ha! That's why those 2 Mount Union games were like 14-7 against BW and Heidelberg last year at half but ended like 48-14 both games. Those BIG boys on the line wore down BW and Heidelberg in the 2nd half. I saw 2 - Division II games too...One Tiffin..One between Ashland and Ohio Dominican. So like I told "Dude" I never say a kid coming out of Division III can't make it to the next level. Now if you are 5'7" QB, I'm betting you aren't going to be a good option getting a tryout for the NFL. ha! But look at what the freshman QB from John Carroll did last year....what 10-0 during the season and beat Mount Union in their stadium...that's AMAZING. I never thought that would happen. So anything is possible, I like the fact that BW has just hired the former Cincinnati LaSalle's head coach. Maybe he can make them in to a title contender in a couple years. I can't wait to go his games. I've already ordered me a tshirt. ha! Ohio State Mansfield offers 10 Bachelor Degrees: Business, Criminology, Early Childhood Education, Middle Childhood Education, English, History, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, and Child & Youth Studies. Tuition for the 2016-2017 year is a total $7140. A LOT less than the $15,000 that your son has to pay for. $60,000 in student loans after graduation is mind blowing, under $30,000 is reasonable. Mansfield OSU is the highest rated of all Ohio regional campuses.

Well I would love for us to find a school he can play football at (that wants him). The goal isn't just get a degree. It's to get a degree and to see how good he can become leading a football team into battle every Saturday. $60,000 for 4 years was cheaper than Heidelberg, Tiffin, Ashland and everyone else, so we will go with BW. He can always join the ARMY after 4 years and have them repay his loans...I think. $60,000 is a real nice vehicle. It's manageable. LOL But WF thanks for the input, I was amazed at how expensive college is too. Chase's girlfriend is number one in their senior class at Galion. She's headed to Otterbein for 2 years then to Ohio University to be working Peditrician by 24 years old. (She's 17 years old now and already has 67 college credits.) She will have a serious college bill by the time she graduates. She just told me her first year will be $66,000 and her second year is going to be $88,000 (Medical School). Now that's crrraazzzyyyy!

Find out if BW has an ROTC program. If they do and he's considering joining the the Army to defray his $60,000 in loans, he might as well go into the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant as opposed to a Private. They make a lot more money and the life of an officer is much easier. . Also, ROTC classes are easy A's, thus great help in raising the old GPA.

Now that makes TOTAL sense, I LOVE that idea. I could see him going and doing thanks for the advice. I don't know if they have that program though. I'll check.

Which means at the end of the day they are still D2. I believe many of you said Harding would be D3 guess you were a bit off.

I can't think of any. Highland is only other moac school with turf, well former moac school. It's nice to have tho proven less concussions with the extra padding, field isn't wearing down mid-season. Band competitions, soccer, hosting playoff games. I really like the move. The looks are a bonus. I look for surrounding school to do it soon as well.

I wonder how many DV, DVI, and DVII schools have Turf? As far as public schools that size that own their own football field go, it's probably a pretty short list. Though there are several small private schools that play on turf only because they play at another school's field (Sandusky SMCC, Fremont SJCC and Tiffin Calvert are examples of this in the NCOAST area)

Hopefully the updated facilities will bring the community back to the stadium as well as all the open enrolled kids playing in the county. Turf looks amazing should be fully complete in 2 weeks. The stadium lights should be next, some of the worst I have seen with my own 2 eyes. HHS gets Newark, Ontario, Galion, North Union and River Valley at home. Away games are Mount Vernon, JA, Pleasant, BV and Clearfork. Go Presidents

Something tells me the kids didn't open enroll elsewhere simply because of the football field.

Also, if all the open enrollment kids were to return, the schools wanting MH out of the MOAC would have more ammo for their campaign for removal.

(3 football, 3 girls soccer and 3 boys soccer teams) So it is not a need for the smaller schools. And they do not consider the benefit of hosting playoff games since their seating is most likely not adequate for it.

Also, I doubt that Turf would bring back the students whose parents moved out or open enrolled their children out for better educational opportunities. Turf is very nice, but not a panacea for all ills. Many would say the money could be put to better use in academic areas of need.

Will there be seating for 2000 on both sides of the Turf? If not, that reduces the chances of hosting playoff games. Is the Turf at the new high school? If not the lack of parking at the old field also is an issue for hosting. Just curious. Where did the money come from for Turf?

I agree it isn't gonna bring kids back into the district, and if it did. If I was on that team I wouldn't want a player who wasn't here grinding it out before. And the money was raised, donated, and the dealership drive a car to raise money days. School payed for little to none. The plan isn't to host D1 playoff games. But there's enough seating to host earlier round d2-d5 games. Parking sucks but they would make it happen with the surrounding streets or the parking lot in the church down the street. I can agree with you would think they would put the money to other uses. But it wasn't their money to start with. The people payed for it. And there's also not a district thriving in education in the county that's forsure.

I don't understand your position. Are you saying you'd rather lose than play kids that moved into your district and win? If I was a player on your team I'd have a serious issue with you. To make the assumption that they were not working or "grinding" just as hard as you, if not harder, at the district(s) they came from would be rather foolhardy and simple minded.

Keep in mind this is also the community that has enough money to put on a fireworks display during their track invitational. Funny story, this year it started raining during the meet so they decided to launch them prematurely before it got too wet. What I'd love to find out is what half assed operation was willing to launch them less than 200 feet away from the shot put area, as the event was still going on at the time. It was great fun having casings rain down all around us. One misfire would have taken out at least a dozen of us.
