IT's all what you have lived thru. BUT, if you have had neither, my guess would be people would select a state title over the success Willard had in the past.

You know Clywalk,,to live in the past means to consider yourself as good now as you were then----Nobody in this town feels that way I guarantee you that. But for you to continue to say our success which in my world spanned 1971---2006 will be ' "but a distant memory" as you say---simply is not the case. It's in the history books and it's in my heart and several others---just like the Haraway Thomas teams will be in the hearts of Norwalk fans forever. You consider from 1993-1998 a success? Your program was 28-77 for those 5 years and never won a league title, sectional title or had double digit wins in any year.

I never said every single year from 1971---2006. That's when I attended most of the games and actually had a vested interest for one reason or another. 94,95,96,97,98---- The Lillo years were certainly not as successful--nope.

For all the greatness of the run Willard had there a couple facts that can't be denied when comparing it to Norwalk's brief stint of success as you have deemed it.
Consecutive NOL titles for Willard during the 35 year span you ref. - 4 Consecutive titles for Norwalk in the last decade - 4 SAME Consecutive Reg. season wins during the span for Willard - 69 Norwalk during the past decade - 60 SIMILAR Record in the OHSAA STATE Tournament during Willard's run 0-4 Norwalk in the past decade 2-0 WINNER ... The above is probably the most revealing to me somehow in the minds of some 4 trips losing in the semifinals in EACH appearance made Willard a STATE power??? You gotta win at least ONE game at the state level for the STATE to consider you a power JMO...

In my dumpy opinion, A state title is better than 5 straight district championships. Every year we will see an area team make it to the regionals and those teams are quickly forgot about. A state title is very rare for an area team and happens MAYBE once every fifteen years. Ontario is a dumpy team just like Willard is a dumpy duplicate bridge player. Go tigers Says the queen of dumps.

Winning a State title is great. 20 years of local dominance is great.
Which is better depends on who you were cheering for during each of them.

I'm not sure who gave Clywalk the enema on this board, but please take him off that prescription. It's getting deep around here.

Willard people tend to live in the past, like it is some currency that can be used to win something real in life. Small towns for the most part are falling apart. Willard's demise will be the influx of Metro/government housing which is plaguing that town and school system. You can thank Jerry Stackhouse for that! Good families <<<< Broken families with no values in that town and you see it in every aspect within the town and school system.

To date, that is Napoleon's only trip to State. 1984........Wheelersburg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Scarlet, help me; why do we do the Catholic debate again?

I'm not sure who gave Clywalk the enema on this board, but please take him off that prescription. It's getting deep around here. It started with your disparaging remarks regarding Norwalk Basketball followed by untruths and Crimson colored glasses statements and I'll quote "Norwalk from State Champs to getting dumped on weekly ever since. A real powerhouse of longevity. One year from Title to losing by 54 to Lorain Sr. A couple good years to nada going forward---- Willard had 35 years of success,,,we were bound to hit a rough patch,,we have kids coming up now." Those statements above are YOUR reality: Getting dumped on weekly (Norwalk is 22-25 since 2014 including 4-0 vs the rough patch boys. Losing to a top ten D1 program in 2015 by a large margin means what?? They are better a lot better. A "couple of good years" they were 4 time consecutive league champs and lost only 2 games in 3 years... Couple? "nada going forward" not sure what that is based on however Willard ain't beating Norwalk for a while... (yet they are just in a rough patch) 35 years of success has already been rehashed, Haas had a GREAT 20 year run and 2 talented players went through the program. At the end of the day all people really know outside of this area is that Willard is 0-4 at the state tournament. None of this is anything other than the reality that others see... others are not looking through your Crimson colored glasses they KNOW the facts...

We already know that Willard did not have 35 years of success. As someone who attends the Sate Tournaments regularly, I will say that Willard is not a topic in any of my stops and many have never heard of it, let alone find it on a map. Although both may always be in the state record books, IMO, Norwalk is in the section people will look at. Willard is in the section some may consider useless trivia.

Scooter---I could care less what your Psychotic *** says and thinks. It appears to me you spend your whole day on this website.
Clywalk---You so so so desperately want Norwalk Hoops to be in the category of history as Willard has. Just not there, sorry. "It's Sad to see their decline"
"Soon the Title will be but a distant memory" It's just sad.

Easy Jocko, just because people don't think like you is no reason to get nasty. I have similar memories like you and cherish them greatly. But reality is outside of your town, and mine, the history is a dot on the map of state basketball and completely unknown to many. Sorry if that hurts your Crimson feelings.
It's called a smartphone dude. Try one. I have mine with me all the time.

I really am sad to see that these threads become "hijacked" by people who want to talk about football, or they are just here to cause an argument. I am here strictly to talk about NOL basketball, I do not think that is too much to ask of is it? I think that people can start their own threads to argue with each other. Just my opinion.

The facts are the facts and some deal with them differently... I think someone on here put it best Willard boys bball is the same pile/category as Margaretta girls bball, Norwalk girls vball, Upper Sandusky girls bball, Ontario boys bball on so on. Then there is local teams/programs like NSP Football, SMCC wrestling, Huron volleyball and then yes even those that got it done once Upper bball, Norwalk bball, Clyde fball, Perkins fball, Shelby track... That those outside of this area remember for years... As Ricky Bobby would say if you ain't first your last...

I'm shocked people are not picking State Title and instead choosing a life of 2nd fiddle. Let me once again explain why this is so far off base. You want to be the valedictorian not the salutatorian, I'd much rather be the valedictorian then spend the next 50 years of my life homeless than be the salutatorian who goes on to be the VP at Bank of America, then change jobs and be the VP at GE, then change jobs and be the Vice President of the United States of America. The Goal is to WIN, the valedictorian can say he/she was the best, the salutatorian who lives a life of VP is just a hot head who thinks he/she is tops but has never been tops, they always look up at the Valedictorian and the President.
I'd love at the age of 60 to meet the Salutatorian/VP. Smelling like the now homeless man I am I'd laugh at that loser and tell him he's a loser compared to me because I won the big one, I was the Valedictorian and he was a loser salutatorian. I won the Big One, while he's spent a life of being 2nd fiddle never knowing what it's like to be on top. I'd laugh all the way back to my cardboard box home and tell him 'have fun in your mansion you lifetime loser, learn how to win the Big One like me'. That would be so sweet to gloat in his face like that.

The riddler is on point with his story. Something that needs added to this story is that these two people went to school different years. The year the Valedictorian won the prize, the kids in his class happened to not be overly smart. They had a 3.0 GPA,,while the Valedictorian had a 3.1 GPA so he did in fact win the title of Valedictorian, and deserved it. The Salutatorian in his year in HS,,his GPA was 3.7, but there was one kid who had a 3.75 GPA, so for that year, even though he was very smart only deserved the title of Salutatorian. The Salutatorian tips his hat to the Valedictorian on his accomplishment and moves on with life. Crazy thing, the Salutatorian family had 6 other family members who were very smart, they all had 3.70 GPA's when they graduated. H'm,,,pretty smart family. I'm sure mom and dad will be very proud of them for as long as they live.
I guess the readers can decide for themselves which family will be remembered for being the smartest.
This will be the last I comment on this story.

Nice story but a little off. Wouldn't you also have to add that both are homeless now. Neither are a V.P in any way. So really the question is based on that story, do you want to be 2nd fiddle and then homeless are be #1 and then homeless?

Can't we all just get along and play 'heads up 7 up' like back in the good ol days? Instead of getting mad at each other and trying to one up each other, let's all just hold hands and pray together. And then go get wings.
Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Well scooter, I also believe that the thread should not have anything to do with valedictorians then right? Why not? The topic has been covered. Now it has become a sports conversation between fans. How is that wrong? Keep reading and join in for enjoyment or move on. Talking sports and sports history can be fun if you let it. Plenty of places to just get scores if that's what you want.
