Just read a sports short that the erstwhile Manny Ramirez is planning a comeback and wants to play professionally again. The only question is -- Why???

This is the type of move that will destroy a small market team if it bombs. It feels like Hafner part 2 to me.

The last 2 such moves were bombs, yet the Indians were within one game of winning it all last year.
Encarnacion could make even more money with the attendance bonuses in the contract, the reason he chose the Indian's deal.
Season ticket sales weren't doing much this winter, until the talk of the deal. Since then over1000 season tickets were sold.

This is the type of move that will destroy a small market team if it bombs. It feels like Hafner part 2 to me. Encarnacion just turned 34, and the deal is really only a 3-year deal with a club option for the 4th year with a $5 million buyout. The Indians are trying to hit their window, and I love this signing and I love the contract. The Indians have the money in that they don't need to sign anyone else. When you look at what Napoli wanted this is a fantastic deal. I've had Encarnacion on my Fantasy Baseball team for the last 3 years and 4 of the last 6. He will suck in April and May. Then he will catch at least one streak where he hits 14 homers in about 20 games and carry a team. Plus, he is playoff proven. Hit a series clinching bomb for Toronto last year.

But he's also shown a tendency to get dinged up lately and at his age his durability is unlikely to improve. I'm not going to argue that when he's healthy he's one of the best handful of hitters in the game. What the Indians need to hit their window most of all is for the return of a healthy Brantley.

agree on Brantley but Edwin played 160 games last year.
2012 = 151
2013 = 142
2014 = 128
2015 = 146
Pretty durable imho, and with very little risk in that after next year he only has two more years. Santana's contract is up after this year so there is some more $$ coming off the books.
Gotta envision this offense next year, and ESPECIALLY in 2018 if Brantley does recover and can come back at even 90% of what he was. Bradley Zimmer is going to be in the majors next year and I think he has a real chance to be a premium bat and a + defender, especially if he ends in C and Naquin moves to RF. Lindor, Kipnis, Brantley, Encarnacion, (Santana), Ramirez, Naquin, Zimmer, and Francisco Mejia maybe at C, the kid who was the key cog in the LuCroy deal. Loaded.
The Tribe has a real 3-year window here if they can stay healthy. Maybe they can Kansas City up and turn WS heartbreak into WS hardware. We have enough talent in our minors to make subtle deals. Brady Aiken will be approaching 2 years post-Tommy John. They have really set themselves up here no matter what Dolan bashers want to spin. The Indians organization places more people into Front Office jobs around the league than anyone else. Now we are starting to see why. We have just as good an offense as Boston and better starting pitching.

Do those games include the playoffs? Even so 160 is better than I thought. I'd take that. I thought he missed more than that last year but if he was one of your fantasy mainstays you'd definitely know better than I. Honestly, the Tribe just needs to have their starting pitching healthy and available for the playoffs. Had that happened last year they'd have had another parade.

Rumors swirling around tonight that the Indians are in the mix to sign Jose Bautista. Will be interesting to see where that goes if anywhere.

I really expected Toronto to keep one of the 2.

That's interesting. During the playoffs most of the talking heads seemed convinced that Bautista would be the one they let walk. I wonder what changed their minds.

Probably the fact that Edwin left....they still need a big bopper for the middle of the order.

Tribe signs Guyer to a 2 year $5M deal with a club option for year 3.
Nice, he's a solid right handed bat and a HBP machine.

Reds trade dan strailey, which they got for basically nothing and played well for them last year to the mariners and get 3 prospects. All top 30 in reds organization. #6 one is gonna be good. Starting pitcher throws 97-100 and has good stamina.

Great news. Thank god we get more prospects. God forbid we actually try to field a competitive team THIS season.

I'd rather be good for a long while then good for 1-2 seasons. They'll be more competitive this year. Bullpen went from the bottom to top 15 it's looking like MLB network was saying. I'm liking how things are heading. Only if could get Phillips out.

The Tribe inked OF Austin Jackson to a minor league contract today. He provides additional insurance as he can play all 3 outfield positions. If he makes the team he gets $1.5 million guaranteed and $4 million more in incentives. I like this low risk high potential reward move.
