Continuing the tradition from NOSF, I will be running the annual NFL playoff pick'em. This is a separate competition from the regular season NFL pick'em that cbus is running.
This pick'em has had a somewhat strange history, with 2 different confidence point systems in the early years when it was run by hafner_for_mvp, a straight pick format when I took it over at first (which was boring with only 11 total games), and then the current confidence points system I've been using for the past 4-5 years. Unfortunately, the exact list of past winners has been lost with NOSF...however, using the internet wayback machine I was able to dig up 3 of them. The rest of this list is going by my own memory. I did make a list of these just last year and I know for sure I've won at least 3, maybe 4 of these. Can anyone remember anything about 2009 or 2010? Cbus, am I right that you won last year?
2017 is this season (I'm listing these by the calendar year the playoffs occurred in)
2016 cbus, I think. I do remember having a shot at 3 in a row and not winning it.
2015 OSU Josh - pretty sure this one came down to me and cbus, and cbus would have won if not for changing his original pick for the tiebreaker
2014 OSU Josh - I think this came down to me and Norcal separated by less than 3 points, with him taking Denver and me taking Seattle
2013 theAteam - confirmed by wayback
2012 RedRage2014 - confirmed by wayback
2011 Dr.Torch - confirmed by wayback
2010 ??
2009 ??
2008 OSU Josh - this was the first year of it, and I remember winning it on a tiebreaker after the Giants upset of the Pats threw a wrench into things
Rules:
- In each playoff round you have a set number of confidence points to spread across the games that week. For each correct pick you receive the number of confidence points you placed on that game. Incorrect picks are worth nothing.
- There will be 12 confidence points in both the Wild Card and Divisional rounds, 6 confidence points in the Conference Championship round, the Super Bowl is 3 points
- You must put at least one point on each game (making 9-1-1-1 the most lopsided possibility)
- the tiebreaker for the title will be closest guess to the total points scored in the Super Bowl
- picks must be made by the kickoff of the first game each week
...and 2 more rules that hopefully won't come into play, but just in case:
- if you make picks without assigning points, each correct pick is worth 1 point (unless you have a perfect week, in which case you'll receive the maximum number of points for that week)
- if your assigned points add up to more than the maximum allowed that week, the difference will be deducted from your highest correct pick
