Zone defenses aren't even played at the grade school level in good programs.

Oh I agree the zone is not very imaginative and is horrible to watch

"Fun to watch" isn't a coaching criteria for selecting what defense to play. To me a poorly played man defense is harder to watch than a zone. THE single most important thing to be taught to 5th and 6th graders is man defense fundamentals. Shooting fundamentals aren't as important at that age group. As most 5th and 6th graders aren't strong enough to shoot correctly, except for layups.

i hear keystone runs a pretty tight zone defense. Personally i think zone defense is for grade school basketball Syracuse has 32 seasons with 20 or more wins and numerous accomplishments running a zone defense. If a coach is committed to playing a zone it can be very effective. In high school, many coaches run zone as a change OR because they cannot defend well with man to man.

Zone defense can be very effective, especially at the high school ranks, due to poor shooting. If you have a long, athletic team zone defense can be very beneficial. Not often do you ever see a high school team shoot a respectable three point percentage, why not run a zone? Force them to shoot outside shots and that is usually a good thing.
Huron a few years ago with Cody Thompson and company ran a zone against a very good Vermilion team and completely took them out of their game, and ended up winning by 15+. If you have the athletes, zone can do wonders. Just like scooter said, look at Syracuse.

Zone defenses aren't even played at the grade school level in good programs. Agree. Most coaches want their younger kids learning good man to man defense principles at the lower grades. When you get into high school though, a zone defenses can be as good if not better than man to man for many teams. Seen many a state champiopnships won with great zone defenses.

A well played man to man looks like a zone. If you are defending a man who is weak side AND two passes away from the ball AND he is below the free throw line extended you should have one foot ball side of the court and one foot man side. That's the same place the weak side low block man on a 2-3 zone would be.
As mentioned above a zone is still a viable option in high school because three point shooting is not as good as college where the three point line is still close (relative to pro). A zone can give a team with a shallow bench a little break. It gives a team a less risky way to trap (versus man to man with a jump trap). It can cause some opponent confusion for a trip or two down the floor as a change.
Having said that, very few really good teams will spend a lot of time in one (Syracuse as an exception).

If a coach is committed to playing a zone it can be very effective. In high school, many coaches run zone as a change OR because they cannot defend well with man to man. Boeheim was a match up 2-3 zone savant. He recruited specific body types for his zone, before recruiting for offense. In high school coaches have to play with who they have. Most good high school coaches start teaching man principals in 5th and 6th grade and continue through 9th grade. If it turns out the kids he has, would make a better team by playing zone, the practice of playing man defense will help them in playing a good zone.

Zone and not pressing is also good for a team that doesn't have much help coming off the bench. And can be affective if rotation is done correct! Nothing wrong with old school. IMO

Tigers win by 15. Dom Barnes drop 25 in his debut. hurst had about 12 assists. tigers playing good ball heading in to a big matchup with the sailors. When I said the tigers would be the best team in the league you guys doubted me and told me they would finish near the bottom. How about all of you go sniff a fart out of my ***. Go tigers
Willrd- Ontario continues to dump, your duplicate bridge record is similar- any correlation?
Go tigers

The Tigers certainly appear to be the team to beat with the return of Barnes. Should be fun the rest of the way.

Dumpy Fillmore- you'll see tomorrow when the Tigers take down the SBC favorite Vermilion. I went to the Perkins/Vermilion game and the sailors have no answer for the combo or Jared Hohler and Dom Barnes. This is the best duo I've seen in the last 10+ years in the SBC. Also, Willard - when are you going to address the rumors of you cheating at your latest duplicate bridge tournament? Got sick of bringing up the rear and decided to cheat? Heard the commission is having talks of you being banned for life. Go tigers

Vermillion at Huron tomorrow will surely be the game to watch. Barnes will certainly be the X-factor seeing as though this is only his second game in a Huron uniform I'll be interested to see how he faces the pressure.

Vermilion, Sandusky and Perkins in a row with a total 20-7 record, compared to the 15-30 of the previous Huron wins, will be proof of Huron omnipotense. Your LIES are not worthy of discussion.

Willy, Don't go comparing me to Dump Fillmore. I'm just another concerned forum user who wants answers to your poor showing at recent bridge events. Again you dodge the question. I just agree with Dump on a lot of his posts about Huron. Dom Barnes is a terrific player and I think you will be eating your words when you see what the big three (Pickett, Hohler, Barnes) of Huron is gonna do to the Sailors tomorrow.

Willy, I like how you use ALL CAPS for emphasis but you are still avoiding the question. Why have you been putting forward such poor performances in the recent bridge tournaments? As Dump stated does it have any correlation with Onatrios decent dumpy performances? Or are you just incompetent and like talking yourself up over the internet?
