I wonder if they resented the Assistant coach Mitchell who has his daughter on the team. There was some in fighting going on during the season. They need to get it together if they wanna make a Final 4 run next season . No final 4. They now have lost 3 starters. Granted the 2 freshman started at the end of the year, but they have nobody to replace those 3. Heck they got embarrassed by Notre Dame in the sweet 16 with all their players and the Irish without their best player Notre Dame would quite possibly beaten UConn on that day. The most prolific display of shooting I've witnessed in a long, long time. Assistant coach Mark Mitchell has two daughters on the team, Kelsey and Chelsea. I don't know if it works essentially the same for women as it does for men's basketball, but I think the Jr. College route may be a temporary solution to shore up the vacancies on the 2017-18 roster. Anyone have any thoughts on this? 1 Stephanie Mavunga 6-3 Forward RS JR Brownsburg, Ind. #5 Ohio State 85, #10 Stanford 64 Stanford scored 24 in 1st quarter, was held to 40 after the 1st. Buckeyes have a very talented and deep bench. After downing Stanford, they had a rather dismal performance at Duke, where they lost 69-60 to underdog Duke, the Buckeyes got it together and defeated Maine 83-70 and Kelsey Mitchell was named Big Ten and National 'Player of the Week'. Ohio State headed south to Gainesville and demoralized the Gators, defeating Florida 103-77. Kelsey Mitchell became the all-time leading scorer in the 1st quarter- Mitchell Sets Scoring Record, Buckeyes Top Florida 103-77. Mitchell is the nation's leading scorer with a 25.7 ppg. She is the nation's career 3 pt. leader with 415 pts. from beyond the arch.

Weather Alert: Winter Weather Advisory Ohio State women’s basketball | Buckeyes 78, Michigan 71 in OT
By Andrew Erickson The Columbus Dispatch
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — A day before his Ohio State women’s basketball team began a stretch of five games in which it would play four games against ranked opponents, coach Kevin McGuff said he would learn a lot about the focus and mental fortitude of his team.
The No. 10 Buckeyes left Michigan’s Crisler Center on Sunday still in the thick of its toughest stretch of conference play, but with a hard-earned confidence boost.
Ohio State slugged it out with No. 22 Michigan for 45 minutes in front of a loud 8,313, but the Buckeyes sank three key shots and made several important stops on defense in overtime to cement a 78-71 win. It was their eighth straight victory.
Senior guard Kelsey Mitchell scored a deep, contested three from the wing to open the overtime period and went strong to the basket with 3:53 left to give Ohio State a 69-66 lead. After a Katelynn Flaherty free throw, redshirt junior guard Sierra Calhoun hit a corner three and Mitchell followed with another layup to give the Buckeyes a 74-67 lead with 2:52 to play.
Michigan (13-4, 2-2 Big Ten) didn’t get any closer than five points down the stretch, as the Buckeyes (15-2, 4-0) outscored the Wolverines 14-7 in the overtime period to finish a game McGuff said Ohio State would not have won a month ago.
“With the struggles we had at times on offense, I don’t think our defense would have been good enough to keep us in it (a month ago), but we’ve improved in that area,” he said. “I think ultimately that’s what allowed us to win this game today.”
Mitchell finished with “We’ll talk about that when we get there,” Mitchell said with a laugh. “Cool?”
Drawing a foul with 1:34 remaining in overtime, Mitchell collided with the basket support, lightly spraining her ankle and hitting her head. McGuff said she should be fine for Ohio State’s next game Saturday at Indiana.

Mitchel should regain her season long notoriety as the nation's leading scorer, after tonight's performance.

The Buckeyes were awarded a No. 3 seed in the women's NCAA Tournament on Monday night and will face the No. 14 seed Colonials on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. ET and is televised on ESPN 2.
OSU was drawn into the Spokane Region along with No. 1 seed Notre Dame, No. 2 seed Oregon and No. 4 seed Texas A&M. Assuming the Scarlet and Gray defeat George Washington, Ohio State will play the winner of No. 6 seed LSU and No. 11 seed Central Michigan.

The Buckeyes defeated George Washington in a romp 87-45, to advance against MAC Champion Central Michigan Monday evening at 6:30 in Columbus. Stephanie Mauvunga scored 22 pts. and 12 rebounds.
I'm expecting an eventual meeting with #1 seed Notre Dame might be in the cards for the Buckeyes. Kelsey Mitchell needs 30 more points to move into the #2 NCAA all-time scoring slot and has an outside chance to become the all-time leading scorer in NCAA history, if the Buckeyes advance to the final four.

I'll have to study up on Oregon, #2 seed sounds pretty legit to me.

I would hope that is not a mocking or sarcasmic comment? Hopefully, Coach Holtmann will get the Men's program to equal that of the women in the near future. UCM is one of the best 3 pt. shooting teams in college basketball, men or women. After finishing on the downside of a 15-9 opening period, the Lady Chippewas put on a clinic from beyond the arc., scoring 25 points in quarter two and an insane 33 points 3rd quarter. The Buckeyes could not overcome a 14 of 27 performance from beyond the arc., despite changing up defenses. Great season for the Buckeyes, top ten ranking much of the season, Big Ten Champions for the regular season and tournament. Kelsey Mitchell leaves a legacy that won't soon be matched if, ever. She owns virtually all Big Ten scoring marks and ended her career as the #3 all-time scorer in women's college basketball history. It's been a fun and exciting year of basketball for both the women and men at Ohio State University!

AGAIN this year a MCGuff team loses badly to a team they should never lose to. If it was possible I'd hire a new bench coach and keep McGuff as the head of recruiting ONLY.

Such is the character of March madness, anything can happen and usually does. I don't care who you are, if you launch 27 three's and 52% hit net, perfect formula for the upset we watched in disbelief.

OSU hit 11 threes of their own, so that's not why they lost.
Other coach came out after the game and said that OSU was tired, she could see them holding their knees and doubled over so she told her team to just kept running.
Maybe don't get caught up in some BS press clippings and a home game and stop working. Conditioning is a factor.

I heard that comment as well. Go figure, other teams tried to avoid getting in a running game with the Buckeyes, running the floor and the transition game was their team strength all season. In this one, they did look fatigued.

The girls lose a lot to graduation as well, we’ll really see how good of a coach McGuff is next year. This years team definitely underachieved though, I know they won the big ten but you just can’t lose in the second round, at home, with one of the best scoring players ever in ncaa history and with a chance to play in the final four in your own city... literally.

Well Kelsey Mitchell graduates and in comes Carly Santoro. Apparently Carly will play her graduate year at Ohio State next year. Carly will give the Buckeyes additional depth next year. She certainly doesn't spell Kelsey Mitchell, but a nice addition. Carly is a local girl from Bellevue and had a solid career at BGSU. I think they might have the next Kelsey Mitchell in Jannai Combs, a 4* recruit that possesses all the essential skills in every aspect of her game and a great playmaker. Jannai was a 1st team All-USA Today from Rhode Island. Congrats to Steph, Kelsey, Savitha, Karlie, Makayla, Linnae and Asia on earning Academic All-Big Ten honors. Most women's basketball players honored in any season.

Well he seems to be recruiting pretty well in this current class. I just read an article from Eleven Warriors that the 2019 class that just signed is ranked #3 in the country and has 4 5* players in it so it looks like they should be pretty solid again soon. Hopefully he can get another great class like this I’m back to back years.
