Well since Santana and Miller both went down tonight I think that you can table that discussion. Either Edwin, Bruce, or Chis is now going to have to man 1st base for a while. Andrew Miller left the game with reaggravated patella tendinitis in his right knee; Carlos Santana exited with lower back tightness. Both updates provided by Indians.

Francona needs to manage the Indians to a better record than Boston for home field advantage, instead of shutting players down at the end of the season.
An interesting player is Zimmer. I've been a baseball fan for some time, but I can't remember a 6-5 225 center fielder/lead off hitter. Someday day he should develop into a 30+ home run guy, but now he plays like a smallish lead off hitter. A big 24 year old kid that rarely over swings, hits the ball where it's pitched, a swing that gets a lot of line drive singles to center field. The team's best base stealer. The fastest player on the team, more adept a bunting his way on than hitting home runs. His defense and base stealing means he has to make the post season roster.

Francona wanted to win the first game of the series too badly. He knew Santana had a stiff back before the game and wasn't going to play him, but Santana said he could go. Chis played a better 3rd base than Santana did, he should be a better first baseman. He throws left handed, an advantage for a first baseman. He's 4 inches taller than Santana, which means a longer stretch and a couple of throws won't get over his head that would get over Santana's. As a stiff back, the only thing that helps tendinitis is complete rest and cortisone. Miller might have to be shut down until the middle of September.

The skys the limit for this kid. Francona inserted him as a pinch runner the other night. Kids that big aren't supposed to be that fast and mobile.....freakish.

Cleveland's offense is going through what it did back in June/July=lack of hitting and runs. They don't seem to be able to beat the better teams like the Red Sox and Yankees.

Tribe all over KC early today....already up 12-0 and the 2nd inning isn't over yet.
The 9 run 2nd inning consisted of a 2 run shot by Lindor, a 3 run shot by Santana and a grand slam by Gomes.

The recent series of injuries may have a silver lining. We are going to the bench and throwing younger players in games by necessity. The bigger picture says the Indians are developing players and getting them game experience, improving the quality and depth of the roster.

Hell of a series, sweeping KC to a tune of a 20-0 combined total score. It's the first time the Indians have had 3 consecutive shutouts in a series sweep since 1956, and KC is now currently on their longest ever streak of scoreless innings at 34.
Next up is an 11 day 11 game road trip that starts tomorrow night in The Bronx, includes a Friday doubleheader to start a 4 game series in Detroit, and finishes with 4 games in Chicago.

The Royals get shutout 12-0 by the Rays tonight, to extend their scoreless consecutive inning streak to I think....43. Is that some kind of record? The good thing, it narrows it down to basically, a two team race for the division.

Indians bust out the brooms in The Bronx, sweeping both the double-header and the 3 game series.
We're currently in the strange position of playing 4 games in 3 days with an off day included.

1989 was the last time the tribe swept the Yankees in a three game series. It's usually tough to play the Yanks there. Good hitting and especially great pitching were evident. Let McCallister leave to wherever.

I realize that right now much of the focus is on the potential Clev/Bos series but quietly as the Astros have swooned since the break Clev is just 4 games in the loss column behind Houston for the best record in the AL.

Yes. And Dallas Keuchel wiped his dick on the curtains when he whined about it to the media.

Another sweep of a double header, and now the Indians have their 2nd 9 game win streak of the year, something they haven't done since 1954.
And now that it's September I think it's ok to start talking about the magic number. It is currently at 22, but could drop to 21 if KC holds on against MIN tonight.

The countdown begins. I like the pitching matchups for the weekend. Saturday; Corey Kluber vs. Jordan Zimmermen Sunday; Josh Tomlin vs. Chad Bell

At this point they have ceased being the Tigers. We are essentially playing the Toledo Mudhens.

Yan Gomes three run homer in the top of the 9th breaks this one wide open 9-4!
13th straight win for the Tribe, just one shy of the club record set last year. The Tribe is 34-11 since July 2nd.
The magic number is now down to 14 to clinch the Division Title.
First team since the 60-61 NYY to register back to back 13 consecutive win streaks in consecutive years.
Prospects look good for Indians with Carrasco and Kluber pitching the next two games.

Playing the White Sox won't hurt either. The Tribe has the easiest remaining schedule in the AL. At the moment they only have one series remaining with a team who has a winning record and that would be the Twins. They should have an opportunity to overtake Houston.
