Was fooling around with the "revised" numbers that the OHSAA put out for schools in Richland County. Using Park Ave (hypothetically)
Richland North HS - 963 Boys 902 girls
Richland South HS - 1078 Boys 980 Girls
2 good sized D1 schools! Just wondering!
North - Plymouth, Shelby, Crestview, and half of Ontario, Senior and Madison South - Lexington, Lucas, Clear Fork, and half of Ontario, Senior, and Madison

Very interesting, how close together are those schools, though? I know Senior, Madison, and Ontario are relatively close.
This got me thinking, what if the three closest schools in Erie County (Perkins, Sandusky, Huron) combined. Say they put a high school along Cleveland Rd, right in the middle of the borders of Huron/Sandusky/Perkins. I know there has been talk about a Perkins/Sandusky merger before, and I know this would never happen, but still interesting to think about.
The numbers would look like this:
Erie High School- 791 Boys
This would be fun to watch.
If just Sandusky/Perkins combined: 584 boys

Terrible league. With fan support in todays age, we could play those games in JH gyms because no one would travel.

Oh I get it's for fun. I would wonder if the combined Richland schools have enough talent to provide good games with Elyria, Lorain and Findlay

TERRIBLE idea. Athletics are immaterial. Thinking anything other than academics is shortsighted. With that being said, compare how many total young people are competing in OHSAA athletics now in current schools VS how many would have a chance to compete in athletics in this proposal of 2 MUCH larger schools and "kick *** league". MANY parents want their children attending smaller schools with their advantages to compete, academically and athletically. In both instances there would be a dilution.
Over the years, many smaller schools and individuals in North Central Ohio have had chances to compete for and/or win State Championships. There is NO guarantee that any Titles can be won at the State level in this "kick *** league". Did you forget about the dominance at the DI level of Private Schools in State Titles in all sports? JMO

Lighten up. I'm bored this afternoon and just found something to do. Of course, I took my ramblings with a grain of salt. Although the duplication of administrations and I moved to the suburbs for a reason take a back seat to the local control and complacency. BTW, Rich S would be the 5th largest school in the state and Rich N would be the 10th largest. DeVos will make us one big Christian Charter school anyway!!

JMO Does the Ohio way of having all these tiny school districts Vanlue, Bettsville, New Riegel, Monroeville, etc... give an advantage to the student academically (not vs a private but a larger public)? Or for that matter athletically? other than the chance to compete at the OHSAA level (some mommy and daddy are happy)? I'm not sure of the answer however in Indiana they have County schools which makes for larger districts but would that improve the academics because the teachers would be fewer and competition would make them compete for positions? As for athletics, club teams would be formed and Tommy would not be a starter at Vanlue but a starter on a club team. By HS the athletes that will compete at the next level are pretty much decided. Competing at a higher level makes you work harder to compete IMO... Looking back at when my son ran track I don't believe they would have run as fast nor would have he ran as fast, or trained as hard had they NOT been D1 competing against the Cincinnati area all stars that called them selves ST X... They knew they had to be better to compete at the level they were in, look at Clayton Murphy who ran D3 (track) in the state of Ohio while successful in no way did he run at the level of many OHSAA D1 runners. Yet now he is PRO a NCAA CHAMP, Bronze medalist in the OLYMPICS and soon to be the BEST 800/1500 in the USA T&F... Point being if he had run at ST X or another D1 power his talent would have been raised in HS some due to coaching and some due to being forced to raise the level just to compete. Food for thought and debate???

Interesting discussion. If this were to happen, can you imagine the opportunities kids would have. Or the potential work ethics they would have to develop to be a part of the athletic programs. Or even the amount of sports that would be added in this area due to the number of kids. Instead of having terrible freshman teams, they would potentially be loaded. Girls could have freshman teams in almost every sport. Amazing.

Next year they will be the 5th largest team in the OCC and falling fast. Graduating class will be +/- 160. A far cry from when Senior was 450 and Malabar was 290.

Bettsville which I believe had been the smallest district in Ohio merged with Old Fort( ) several years ago.

Since this is a boys basketball forum. Basketball - 9 public schools now, 10 players/roster, 90 kids on varsity basketball teams. How many varsity players if there are 2 schools? The same would follow in most all team sports
There would be a lot more kids going to the 3 private schools in Richland County, as some parents would want to avoid the monster school districts. OR open enroll out of Richland Country to smaller school districts in surrounding counties. JM thoughts.
