Get used to this name. Kendell Sheffield CB Reading a lot of good stuff about him in Spring practice. The first and earliest guy to have his black helmet stripe removed which is sort of a right of passage for 1st year players at Ohio State. From the onset this essentially 3rd year college player was expected to be a one and done type player. He went to Alabama for a year and didn't like it there so he went to Juco and was the top CB in the country and now on to the big leagues at OSU. OSU without question is the DBU for the top players coming out of HS. Yet another player from Texas coming to Ohio to play college football.
Another Texan 1st year player and early enrollee JK Dobbins is now 2nd on the depth chart behind Mike Webber. I've watched some spring practice video of this guy. He got hurt his Senior year of HS but bounced back quick enough to be able to practice this spring. Kid looks fast and runs hard. I think he'll push Webber to be better in 2017.
The Insiders are raving about the work Kevin Wilson is doing with the offense as OC. Also having Ryan Day a former NFL QB coach working with JT is helping his game a lot. When Tom Herman left a couple years ago it hurt JT as I think he developed some bad habits in his throwing.

Sounds like he must have had academic problems at Bama, so the JUCO thing.

I count 7 games that appear to me at least to be "testers". I think we'll be favored in all of them, but they'll be games where there should be some intrigue at least instead of blowout expectations. I count Indiana in that because IU will certainly be pumped up to face the coach Kevin Wilson who they fired last fall. There should be bad blood on both sides going in I would think. I think OSU is way more talented, but for whatever reason IU has played OSU tough the last few times. A Thursday night game with a National TV audience ought to make for a sellout crowd with lots of OSU people there as usual. I think the IU fans will be out in force also as a new coach takes over and that in itself gets them excited.

Playing Indiana on Thursday gives Ohio State a couple extra days to prepare for Oklahoma, if you want to surmise about "bad blood".

Michael Hill DL suspended for the 1st 6 games. Tested positive for something. Noah Brown was in the same boat,,now we know why he left early.

Nope--it's true
reported yesterday on Rivals.com by Nevada
A few other tidbits,, OC Kevin Wilson making a huge impact on offense. If the blame was to be placed why OSU offense was stagnant last year---Ed Warriner more so than Tim Beck. Ed was a good OL coach but did not possess the people skills or mind to be a top shelf OC. He was afraid of making mistakes and making Urban mad,,so he put our players in similar situatiions. Kevin Wilson is complete opposite and is looked up to by Urban and that fear issue isn't there anymore. There was a reason EW couldn't get a second interview for head coaching jobs at Western Ky or Army,,,and why he was hired as the OL coach at Minn. If Mike Webber has a decent to good year he's gone. Webber viewing this year as his money year. JK Dobbins is going to be better than Webber which if nothing else will push Webber to work harder. Parris Cambpell is most improved player on the team. The O-line will be better simply because of depth and a renewed commitment of a few upper classmen who know it's now or never ( Matt Burrell specifically) They have two Freshman that will push hard for playing time on the OL
Incidently the loss of 6 games of Hill,,,will get Nick Bosa on the field more which is a good thing.

Pretty good assesment, but we can't underestimate the effect of not having the services of the most experienced player on the DL for six games. I think we'll get along just fine in Hill's absence, but could sure use him against Oklahoma. The good thing is Tracy Sprinkle is back, but instead of enjoying extra depth on the DL the first 6 games, we will have to rely on some young players to contribute early on. Hill will return vs. Nebraska and the meat of the Big Ten schedule, Penn St., Iowa, MSU & Michigan.

we're ranked #1? Tate must have beaten Barrett out already. ESPN's football power index ESPN explains: Preseason FPI is designed to take the guesswork out of preseason ratings. It is an automated ranking intended to measure team strength going forward. It is not a ranking of who will have the highest win total (which is dependent on schedule) or who is most likely to make the College Football Playoff. The model comprises four major components: the last four seasons of performance on offense, defense and special teams, with the most recent season counting most; information on offensive and defensive returning starters, with special consideration given to a team returning its starting quarterback or gaining a transfer quarterback with experience; a four-year average recruiting ranking of four systems (ESPN, Scouts, Rivals and Phil Steele); and head coaching tenure. These four components interact and are assigned different weights depending on the team to produce preseason FPI.

Sheffield looks like an immediate plug-in at CB for the Buckeyes. "He went to Alabama for a year and didn't like it there so he went to Juco and was the top CB in the country and now on to the big leagues at OSU." Sounds like he must have had academic problems at Bama, so the JUCO thing. The other option is he didn't like it there..and by going to a Juco he didn't have to sit a year without playing as he would have had he transferred to another DI School

I fully expect big things from our passing game this year and I fully expect J.T. on the Heisman short list all season. I also expect Kevin Wilson will quickly help us forget Tom Herman.

I agree, it's time to be behind JT and not down on em. If you're a real fan that is. It's like wanting your pilot to crash the plane. Why want the leader to do bad. JT is out for blood this year. I think he'll do well. And he has 3 good quarterbacks behind him.

Next year we'll have on the roster Burrow, Haskins, Martell, and freshman Emory Jones. That may be the most talented group of qb's Ohio state has had on its roster at one time.

Next year will be fun time to watch this talented group battle it out. Each have great things to bring to the table, but of the group, Emory Jones most incites my interest at the moment.

I'd like to land gently for once instead of watching a QB with a candy arm chucking knuckleballs like Barrett did against VTech, and MSU, and Clemson. People forget he was on the BENCH when we had our best run. I'm an OSU fan whether Barret is behind center or not. Personally I'm ready to move on. OSU is bigger than one QB so spare me the indignity.

What explains the 2014 season before JT broke his leg?
IMO, the O-line developed into the best O-line since Meyer has been at OSU. Had the best overall defense since Meyer has been at OSU. The emergence of arguably the best tailback in OSU history. Had one of, if not the best, deep ball receiver in Ohio State history.
Many football expert's analogy.... When a TEAM has a great year the QB gets the credit and shouldn't. When a TEAM has a bad game, the QB gets the blame and shouldn't.
If next year's TEAM beats Oklahoma, their chances of going undefeated are better than any other team in the country. According to those experts.
