Their goal is to “ hire a well-qualified candidate who can lead our student-athletes toward success ”
Question is will one apply. The program has had 1 winning season going back 12 years and under 4 different coaches. According to records, no coach since 1970 has had a career winning record while at Bucyrus. And, in those 47 years the schools has won 14 tournament games. Have they all been bad coaches?

Here's what they got according to the Bucyrus Telegraph Forum: "During Thursday's Bucyrus City School District Board of Education meeting, the board approved the hiring of Justin Mattix and Taylor Whitaker as the boys and girls coaches, respectively. The pair admitted they couldn't have imagined being head varsity coaches just a year removed from college, but look forward to the challenge regardless." The new coaches graduated from Bluffton U.

I would ask if attending college makes you well qualified to coach. I saw that Whitaker played all 4 years but I couldn't see Mattix on any Bluffton roster.

I don't think attending/playing college ball makes you a well qualified coach. He did coach the JV team last year so he has experience.... Also I have a friend in Bucyrus who knows who applied and the one's with Varsity experience all have awful records. Except for Diebler.

So the statement is they want no experience versus experience. When was the last time Bucyrus had consecutive winning records?

If you want to search in vain, try looking for sectional titles won by Bucyrus. Spoiler alert...zero.

I did not know that Rose was not in the district. Rose was 4-42 the last two years. I think it was just time for a change. It sounds like they got a young coach that they like.

^^^And Rose was 24-23 the previous two seasons.
For 8 seasons before Rose arrived, Bucyrus had not had double digit wins. Also before Rose came to Bucyrus they had 2 winning seasons in the previous 29 years under 10 different coaches. Maybe we can agree something needs to change but changing the coach has not been the answer.

Wow, cannot believe they let Coach Rose go. There must be more to the story. He's a fine man and coach and really knows the game of basketball. I don't know much about Bucyrus but sounds like there isn't much of a youth program if they have had 2 winning seasons in that long of a period of time. Does anyone know if he is coaching anywhere else?

So he had two of the most successful and two of the least successful seasons for Bucyrus in the last 25 years. Bucyrus administration must have felt the bad outweighed the good. I can understand both sides of it. 24-23 is a good 2 year period but 4-42 is not how you want to follow those 2 seasons.

If your best is still "meh" at best, then you probably shouldn't feel too bad about showing the guy the door, especially if he is responsible for matching your two worst back-to-back seasons. On a related note, M'ville thought they had hit rock-bottom w/ 10 years of Reer; boy, were they ever wrong.

2002-2004 = 27-17
18 wins in 2002-2003 11 wins in 2004-2005

I saw the new boys head coach this week at practice, and he looks all of 15 years old. Phil Joseph was still there, and he does NOT look 15 years old. As for Tony Rose, let me say that he is one rare bird, and always had a very high opinion of himself.

^^^ I disagree, and I'm sure that you do as well.
Maybe I should have said an UNJUSTIFIED, in Rose's case, very high opinion of himself.
