So I wanted to get a gauge and start a civil dialogue on everyone's feelings, perception, and stance on the Police force in your specific area and the country in general. I have but 1 rule and that is you can and should be specific, but please leave out names and obscene comments. It wouldn't be a fair thread if I didn't give out my stance so here with go!!
I personally feel like every profession sometimes the less than average individual gets through the cracks and find their way into this profession. These individuals can and at times bring a negative light to the profession and since "LE" is a very high position in the order of trust, and civil duty when something goes wrong or is did wrong we see it on the 2 o'clock news and every hour of news there on after. I believe just like finding a better and more efficient way of building a bridge or solving a problem, Law Enforcement has to evolve and change with the times we live in. With the media and news outlets seemingly at times to be infinite we get at times a skewed and biased representation of the Police depending on what channel you happen to be watching that day. I am a huge believer in statistics and think some of the biased reporting can be washed away with looking no further than statistical figures on some of the problems we hear so much about. I also do feel however when something does happen we have to be willing to be open and willing to change for the better of not only the people, the department and the profession as well. This profession is exponentially tougher than it was 20 year ago and exponentially tougher than 20 years before that. I think we forget these men and women are human too, and forget some officers see horrific sights and sounds and that we can't imagine. The toll its takes on the mind and body is staggering and while that is no excuse for the things that can and have happened in the line of duty, we forget these people go into working knowing and accepting they may not come home to their loved ones, but are willing to die for your loved ones at no extra cost or reward.
