Cavs - 12-1 vs the East
Warriors - 12-0 vs the West
3rd straight year these teams have made the Finals and they have no challengers. 28 cities around the NBA feel like Browns fans. No shot.
It's fun right now as a Cavs fan, but the regular season has become pointless. And once Lebron is gone the Cavs will struggle for years on end again. A better system is needed.
Rob Parker came up with an idea to create better parity so a few more teams have a shot. It's a 4 tier pay scale for players on a team. He didn't go into it deep and used numbers like 205 million for top player, then 105 million, then 55 million, then everyone else.
My idea instead of the Salary Cap, which the Cavs just go over and pay a fine would be to use a Player Index Ranking (Like Golf and Tennis) #1 in the world in Golf could only team up with so in so if it was a Team Sport.
Under my idea only 3 players on a team matter in the Index. Each teams best 3 players can't have a value any lower than 50.
But if you draft Lebron, then draft Durant, then draft Kawhi then you can have those 3 on your team. Where my Index comes into play is for Trades and Free Agents.
Under my system Durant would not have been able to join the Warriors. The Warriors would still be a juggernaut with Klay, Steph and Draymond since they drafted those guys.
Here's an example:
I don't know what Index should be used, PER, Win Shares, etc. I'll use Real-Plus Minus for some quick numbers
Last years NBA rank for GS in Real +/-
#2 Draymond
#4 Steph
#25 Bogut
#65 Klay
^^^^ Warriors get rid of Bogut so now they can trade or pick up a good FA, but that players value would have to be 44 or worse. Kevin Durant was #8 so he doesn't fit into the Warriors Index and would need to find a different team.
Instead of Cap space mattering it would just be off of the Player Index. This type of system could keep Lebron from joining up with Wade and Bosh, and from Durant joining a 73 win team. Creating some more parity.
