Just think if we hadn’t blown a few of those games earlier this season, we’d only have like 2 losses. Ohio state definitely chose the right coach when they got Holtmann last summer. What a game by them today.

I just came here to get my props dating back several years. Scarlet wanted Thad Cooper gone a long time ago.

What a game by them today. Against Butler and Clemson Bates-Diop had not yet figured out that he had to be THE MAN for Ohio State to be a good team. Now he's THE MAN in the Big Ten. With a good supporting cast. The last time I saw an Ohio State player post up at the elbow, motion for the wing to move, so a double couldn't come. Then DEMAND the ball, turn and face the basket and hit a fade away jumper.....Jimmy Jackson. Enjoy him, we won't see him next year. He's a mid to high first rounder.

The odds favor that the same thing will happen one day to Holtmann, if he sticks around long enough and has three back surgeries. BTW, that's the first time a coach beat the #1 Team at two different schools in back to back seasons since......... Thad Matta in 2004-2005. Holtman is 46, Matta was 37 when he was hired by Ohio State. Matta won 2 Big Ten Titles by the time he was 40, 5 by the time he was 45.

Matta was all recruiting and under achieved when he hit mega home runs with that talent. Once his recruiting touch went away there was nothing left.
I can enjoy osu hoops again.

I couldn't have summed up my thoughts any better than this. Holtmann's coaching prowess with Thad's collection of talent, would have resulted in a couple national championships. Holtmann should prove to be an outstanding recruiter for the Buckeyes in the coming years.

Well if FLA kids turn pro Thad gets his title, so he was a damn good coach. Cats like me who remember the end of the Ayers era and the OBrien years are grateful for Thad. Think he coulda won 2 here if things broke differently. Or if he had just sat Big Buford and let Bricks shoot us to the Final Four.

I just saw writing on the wall quicker than most. Dude came in with legendary recruiting class (or 2) and parlayed that into one almost title and one huge letdown v. 'ok' Kentucky.

That win last night was borderline Iowa OSU football. I've felt good about this team,,but absolutely didn't see it coming to the degree that it did. That whole game. must have been a nightmare for Tom Izzo,,,lol,,especially the last minute of the first half.

Osu just took it to a solid maryland team. This team feeds of KBD when he’s playing well they will compete with anyone. i want to see Kaleb Wesson more consistent but buckeyes are rolling!

Three guys have really surpassed my expecations. 1 Andrew Dakich---I thought he'd be a scrub and a guy who would kill us on the court and when he subbed in for CJ Jackson to give him a break. Instead he's been a steady and smart player who doesn't let his lack of athleticism become a weak point on the court. He's a glue kind of player who just keeps the offensive flowing and is in the right place all the time on defense as well.
2 CJ Jackson---After watching him last season there were flashes of good guard play from him, but this year he's been improving each game it seems. He is Knocking down outside shots and isn't selfish with the ball in his hands. He Hustles on defense and just makes things happen in a positive way all season.
3 KBD---This guy has been hurt so long it seemed perhaps he was damaged goods and you wondered if he'd ever be more than a player without confidence who shows up part of the game and non existent the other part. Instead he is the unqualified go to guy who is doing it all on the court in all facets of the game. Offense Defense and Rebounding. Right now if the season ended he'd be 1st Team all Big Ten and a likely Player of The Year type of guy OSU has not had since DeAngelo Russell. Clearly he is thriving under this new Coaching staff.
4 The Social Media improvement---- The people in charge of this along with assistant coaches realize what an important element this is in 2018's world. Getting your name out there and in front of the Best HS prospects is really key to getting their interest and eventually landing their commitment.
So far so good. 5-0 in the Big Ten with wins over Wisc Mich MSU and MD. Probably year in and year out these 4 are the Top of the big Ten and have made deep NCAA tournament runs. Ohio State has blown out 3 of the 4. To me that really says something and speaks volumes as to the job this staff has done with really a limited roster. Shows how important chemistry is and all the behind the scenes work in practice really is.

A continual irritating point I have with this team and I hope it isn't our new coaches trait, is this team is an absolute terrible offensive rebounder. As soon as an Ohio State shot leaves the shooters hands, the entire team is headed up court! What the hell happened to the days of checking out and crashing the boards for 2nd & 3rd attempts?

What the hell happened to the days of checking out and crashing the boards for 2nd & 3rd attempts? maybe it’s a coaching technique for Holtmann? Maybe he coaches them to do that to prevent any leak outs and get back to get in good defensive position? It does seem like they are playing hella good half court defense so maybe that’s part of their strategy. Whatever it is the staff is doing, it sure seems to be working. Another big win tonight over a team that was leading the conference in defensive efficiency.

Maybe it is part of how he gets them to only take good shots knowing they get no second chances. Currently shooting almost 50% from the floor and 38% from behind the arc. An increase in both from last year but maintaining the same rebounding numbers.

Every coach seeks to eliminate the transition game, but to completely relinquish offensive rebound possession to the opponent has me confused. I love their half court offense. Haven't seen this much rotation, tremendous passing and movement away from the ball in a long, long time. This is indeed a big win, as every single win from here on out, in this long Big Ten season will have increasing importance. Watching the BTN and ESPN discussions concerning B1G basketball, Ohio State is conspicuously left out of the conversation. They refuse to give any credibility to this remarkable over-achievement by this group of kids.

The average margin of victory in their 6-0 start of 17.5ppg is quite impressive. That says a lot about how well this team is playing right now. I'm beyond surprised at how this season is going.

As soon as an Ohio State shot leaves the shooters hands, the entire team is headed up court! What the hell happened to the days of checking out and crashing the boards for 2nd & 3rd attempts? Every coach teaches to check out and rebound. That's what defensive players do. They should already have position to check out because they're on defense and should be between the player they're defending and the basket. When you're the offensive team, if the defensive team is doing their job when it comes to rebounding, you are at huge disadvantage. The offensive player must first fight to get around the defensive player to be able to check him out for a rebound. Why do you think that n almost every game teams have a lot more defensive rebounds than offensive rebounds? BTW, In the Rutgers game, I disticntly remember Kyle Young getting an offensive rebound and putting it in for a basket.

another good win, got tired at the end you could tell. KBD didn’t get it going scoring wise but he affected the game in other ways. This team is 7-0 big play. matches last year big ten win total for them i believe. and almost past there win total from last year. not gonna get ahead of anything but if this team is 12-0 going into purdue game then watch out.

When you can win games on nights when your best player is having an off night, that's a good sign. How about Potter and Dakich ? If Potter gets it going anywhere close to last night in a consistent way, this team can win the BigTen. Still shocks me that a statement like that is even remotely possible. Dakich, who woulda thought this kid would be the glue on the court with steady smart play?

I agree wholeheartedly! My first take on Dakich was; he was a warm body to fill out the roster, equal to your typical walk-on. This young man is making me a believer game by game. Potter is playing with the confidence and attitude of an upper classman. Jackson can look so, so bad at times and turn around and go a 180 on his horrendous mistakes. I think he is still in development and will be a standout at some point in time.

Holtmann is the first Big Ten coach to win his first 7 Big Ten games since 1923.
