News is Norwalk has a couple of tall transfers, one from Western Reserve and one from the Columbus area. This one is hard to call and should be a battle between Norwalk, Perkins, Sandusky and Shelby in the Lake. In the Bay I'll pick Vermilion followed close by Huron. Though Margaretta has a lot of talent back. In the River I think everyone agrees on St.Mary's who has a lot more kids out for basketball than they did football. Returning 6-8 Luca Mormina should have a stellar season. New Reigel, Old Fort and Calvert should battle for the next 3 spots.

No way Vermilion edges out Huron. Huron loses only one starter. They also have a lot of young kids who will make an impact on varsity. Look out for 6'7 freshman Donald Brown. Heard he could be the first freshman varsity starter for Huron in some time. Still developing his skills but he is a big body as well as an incredible athlete. He could be a division one scholarship player if he continues to develop. Tigers win the conference with ease. Hell, they would win the Lake division if they were in it.

As for Margaretta, yes they bring a lot back but from a .500 team. Doesn't always mean they'll be better than the year before.
Huron will be tough, Dump. I'm just saying Vermilion will be tough as well and those two should be at the top battling for the crown. I wouldn't say they would win the Lake division, though. Wouldn't be able to run with Sandusky. Norwalk would be too much for them as well. Might be more competitive with Perkins/Shelby. I wouldn't put anything past Bobby James, though! That guy can pull off anything!

Margaretta has some issues out there, one key player might not be playing at all this year.

Dump: You are right on Hurst being a stud, that boy sure can play. I see him as their go to player and if he has matured more this year he would be the one who also would start directing the team and calming them down when things get out of hand. Huron will be going far into the play-offs this year. Dump, I would also like to compliment you writing a very good article about your Tigers. It was nice, short, and to the point and you did not raise an issue about them. You have come a long way from when you first started on the site. Keep it up and please keep giving us a good report on Huron. Do you want to kiss? Dump: I sure hope so cause I been waiting this for a very long time.

A lot of talk about Willard on their own thread but what about other schools? Seems pretty quiet so far. Any word on scrimmages with other teams? Kids not going out or injured?

I know Norwalk scrimmaged North Ridgeville and Elyria Catholic last thursday. North Ridgeville had one real good player and they played very well together. They should have a good year this year. They beat Norwalk in the first 10-minute session but I believe Norwalk won the next 3 or 4 against both EC and NR. EC had one good player as well and everyone else was so-so.
Norwalk will be running up and down this season with Haraway leading them. They will get their shots up, especially from the 3. They shot pretty well from the 3-point line at the scrimmage. All in all, they looked pretty good for the first scrimmage of the year.
With Alexander out for Sandusky because of the football injury, I believe Norwalk will be the team to beat in the Lake. Keith Williams and Tahj will be tough for Sandusky but I just don't know who else they got to support those two. Alexander would have been a nice piece to have in the middle. Perkins might be tough still so don't count them out either. I think Sandusky drops with Alexander being out to go with: Norwalk, Perkins, Sandusky, Shelby.

How’s the transfer from western reserve doing? I’m assuming he has to sit 11 games right?

I'm not sure how that all is going to work. He actually lives in Norwalk, so does that mean he doesn't have to sit out? I'm not really sure how that rule works. Like Campbell going to Madison, he can play right away since he lives in the district. So he might not have to sit out.
He's doing okay. He's the biggest guy Norwalk has, but more times than not he is out at the three point line for some reason. Doesn't really have a post game yet and is indecisive about what to do with it once he does get it down low. Again, it was just the first scrimmage though so he'll get better. Rebounded fairly well but just got the ball stripped away too easily once he brought it down. He'll be a nice piece for them going forward though.

Thanks for the info, I’m not sure how that rule works either. I didn’t know he lived in the Norwalk district.
Any other people with info on other teams?

He does not have to sit out. Norwalk was his original district of residence (I don't quite understand the transfer rules, but he's ok to play). I think it's a little much to think Norwalk is going to win the league. They struggled last year and lost 3 kids from the starting lineup. And they'll also be without Haraway for the first 3 games, so it will be interesting to see how they play in those games. The Lake doesn't seem to be very strong this season.

Yeah, they struggled last year because they were dealing with injuries all season. Haraway missed most of the year with his football injury, as well as Friend missing time due to a foot injury and Trautman due to concussion. So right there is your top three players all missing time. Tough to win games with 3 of the top 5 out of the lineup.
With that being said, other kids had to play last year and got some good experience coming into this season. They also have a freshman (Chapin) who should be getting some playing time as well. He can shoot very well for a freshman and could possibly start sometime this year.
With the Lake being down this year, I don't see why Norwalk couldn't compete and win it. They play Ontario, Tiffin and Madision their first 3 games without Haraway. They should be able to handle Tiffin without him. I'm not sure about Ontario and who they have this season, but Madison might be tough with Campbell there now. Should be interesting to see how they play without him, though. They should be able to get 2/3 I would think, 1 at the very least.

I see the St.Mary's transfers from Perkins are sophomore point guard Myles Bruno and junior wing Jordan Jude. Both played on a very good Pirate reserve team last season and should be great additions for the Panthers.

St. Mary's should have a cake walk through the Creek division with the addition of those two players along with the Mormina kid.

I heard Alexander wasn't going to play basketball for the Streaks this year anyway. I heard he was graduating early and headed to college in January.

Why is South Central on Norwalk`s schedule? Just like Plymouth is on Bellevue again.

Norwalk has always played WR, but WR bailed, so they tried to find a close opponent and South Central was willing.

Bellevue scrimmaged Marion Harding and I think won 5 of 8 quarters. I didn't hear anything other than that.

Hey guys, do any of you have a time, date and place of who Norwalk will be scrimmaging this year. I see that we picked up Mt. Vernon on the 18th. at there place for a scrimmage. I don't have the time though. Why is Haraway not playing the first 3 games.

Death, Norwalk will be scrimmaging Mansfield Senior and Clearfork this friday, November 17th, at Mansfield. I'm not sure what time but I'm assuming around 6 or so. Then they will scrimmage Mount Vernon the next day, the 18th.

Looking at the teams in the Lake division I would think Norwalk has a chance to win it, like everyone else is saying that division doesn’t seem as strong as in the past maybe. Shelby always seems to be solid no matter who is on their roster.

Thanks statechamps. I know I would not be able to attend Fridays games because I'll be at either Shelby/Bellevue game or the St. Paul/Pandora-Gilboa game. Saturdays game is just to far for me to drive these days since I'm getting old.

Hey Grapeseed-
This site is for the kids. Take your bum bum off the site if all you are going to do is come on here and tell us all the bad things these kids have done. It's high school. Everyone smokes pot. Some of us may even get caught with it. You are acting like a middle aged mother at her bookclub. Can't wait to get on here and tell us what gossip you have learned.
That being said, Huron kids are clearly the smartest drug users in the area. You hardly every hear of a kid from Huron getting caught with drugs, especially a good athlete. And I can assure you, we all do them. This says something about the intelligence of our young Tigers.

I don't care how fragile he is, Mormina is playing in the river division. He should be able to beat up on teams inside just cause of how tall he is. Won't be playing Sandusky/Perkins/Norwalk type talent. So he should be fine.

That was a couple weeks ago. He has had his share of injuries and this is why on my prediction post I put if Mormina could avoid injury. The kid is full of talent and beside a good rebounder he is a very good ball handler, shooter at 6'7

As someone said above Alexander was going to graduate early and enroll at MSU, which he still plans to do. So I would assume he wouldn't play basketball this year anyways. He really didn't give the Streaks any scoring last year anyways just some rebounding. He just came off the bench to give some athleticism with the second rotation.
