"I am the greatest'!.......and he was.
Always wish he would have remained 'The Louisville Lip" Cassius Clay.
Ali took the sport to it's pinnacle, that brought boxing into every household discussion. The world of boxing has never been the same since.

I never liked him. He gave up the name his mother gave him. (Which is a sin: Respect your Mother and Father). He was an arrogant *** and ruined sports forever. I will always praise good sportsmanship. Don't talk smack and act like you've done it before.

He was a horrible sportsman and a racist. He was named after a famous abolitionist. He gave that up and took the name of a muslim ruler of Egypt who ran a slave kingdom.
But he had balls. He refused the Vietnam draft and was sentenced to 5 years in prison. He could have joined and put on exhibition bouts, or he could have fled the country but he stood by his convictions. He remained free until he won his appeal but he took the chance and stood his ground.
He is in the group of phenomenal athletes who had major moral flaws: Tiger Woods Ty Cobb Pete Rose Mike Tyson Lance Armstrong Honorable mention to Kobe, Mike Tyson & Big Ben
In the ring Ali was beautiful.

I think If we could pull each from their prime... Tyson would destroy Ali.

I think If we could pull each from their prime... Tyson would destroy Ali. Absurd.....Tyson wouldn't last six rounds, nor would he be able to stand toe to toe with Liston for very long. We haven't seen a boxer the caliber of Muhummad Ali since, nor will we ever, in all probablility. Sugar Ray Leanard was as close as we have seen, but a lower weight class.

Tyson nearly killed everyone he fought. 30 second knock out king. Ali fights lasted three days.

Tyson nearly killed everyone he fought. 30 second knock out king. Ali fights lasted three days. He got smoked by one Buster Douglas, who had the dancing and moves along the lines of Ali, but not even close to Ali's abilities. Tyson is not even in the conversation, except chewing on ears...lol

Ali in his youth was the best, from what I have seen. Tyson was the "Clubber Lang" of his generation and definitely NOT someone I would want to meet in the ring...but Ali was just another class above. (Please, I'm not an Ali fan by any stretch of the imagination. I agree with most of what is published about him above by 68 Champs and Whittaker. Even as a kid, I thought he was pretty much a turd, but there is no argument when he stepped in the ring.) His later fights are the ones that got ugly and slow when he began running his infamous "rope-a-dope" to tire out his younger opponents... It wasn't boxing then, but rather a means to an end.
