That's stupid, allowing a transfer student to play the first half of a season or seasons then making them ineligible for the 2nd half and post season. It would make more sense to make them ineligible for an entire year.

Actually kinda like the idea. It would stop the alot of the transfers of little johnny whose parents are peed off and want to move a kid solely on athletics. I get it a family actually moved but if it's just jumping for sports then why not make it non rewarding. And don't give the whole better academics at a different school analogy. Parents and students looking for that are already changing schools before freshman year. Wouldn't mind at all if they implemented this in some form.

Schools and parents will just find a way around this rule and get a full exemption

I like the post season thoughts. It is interesting to know that all of these suggestions that the OHSAA discuss and propose are from the membership coaches. This could indicate that schools with low competitive balance numbers are trying to slow down the teams with high competitive balance numbers in the first year that their transfers come in.

I think this is a good thing. If a kid legit moves, they can play day 1. We've already seen one jump from school A to school B for a fall sport, sit out half the season, to only go back to school A. I sure this is a bigger problem elsewhere or else it would not have been brought up.

not sure what to make of this rule, but I don't exactly hate it. Go to the state tourney and read the write ups of the teams participating. More and more teams are there with 2 or 3 kids who played elsewhere the prior season. Or the team was 7-4 in their first 11 games, and then somebody became eligible after transferring, and now they're at State. Or a team like Lutheran East, who had 5 new starters when compared to the prior season. I'm not saying it's every team, but it's become a problem in basketball.

It only needs a simple majority to pass.

Okay, I'll ask again. What chance does this have of getting a simple majority to pass it?

Okay, I'll ask again. What chance does this have of getting a simple majority to pass it? This will pass - easily. It wouldn't have gotten to this point without much support.

I wouldn't be so sure. I could see the privates and suburban schools voting in a block against it. There are a number of public schools that benefit from the transfer/open enrollment system.

Instead of sitting out the first half now, they will sit our the 2nd half.

Nothing is certain but there does seem to a strong drive to end the movement of kids from school to school for athletics. Some may try to mask the moves by claiming academics but when a kid attends 2-3 schools in the same number of years it is difficult to buy. If I had a vote I would support it since it includes post season.

After seeing the difference 6-4 transfer Soph Guard Logan Houle has made to Ontario, I can see why they don't want Transfer students playing in the tournament.
Best player sit's out first 11 games, poorer record and lower seed, but plays in the tournament and upsets a team or two.
Versus
Best player plays early, wins more games for a higher seed, but is not eligible for tournament and team loses early.

The information and voting instructions are supposed to go out next month. I think it goes to high school principals of OHSAA member schools, but I may be wrong.
