how bad is officiating getting? I have watched it get worse and worse every year. The sad part is not only the fundamentals are lost on most of these guys, but not knowing the rule book is really getting bad. must be hard getting quality guys that want to travel and give up their Friday nights. Its just brutal watching these guys call games mistakes, missed calls, out of position, looking right at a penalty and not throwing a flag, or not seeing a penalty and throwing FLAG. its just so bad to watch these guys.

I’ll never complain about the officiating because if I wanted to do something about it I would become one

So what is your solution to the problem? Since there is a major national shortage of officials. In a football game there are what 4 guys to cover the entire field. Another issue is fans in general don't understand the rules. they want the same calls they see in an NFL game.. We have such a major shortage that these guys are getting basic on the job training. so yes you're going to see mistakes made.

The quality of officiating is mediocre at best. Perhaps if they paid a good wage for officiating the games they'd be able to get more qualified people.

These guys take some serious abuse from parents and fans. They get grief from coaches too but that’s expected. It’s the guy threatening to blow the officials house up over a 50/50 PI call that bothers them. I think schools need to do a better job of tossing verbally abusive fan’s from games.

If we can pay superintendents six-figure salaries, we can do a little better than $60 per game for officials.

Varsity football officials make $60.00 a game for around 2 hours is good. Most leagues in the area pay $65 to $80. A game that only lasts two hours is rare. An hour drive is fairly common, an hour-and-a-half is not too unusual. Officials are expected to be on site 90 minutes before kickoff.

I know mistakes are going to happen, those usually have a way of equaling themselves out, but to be rule ignorant is un-excusable!

Officials are becoming a huge issue in all sports. The lack of them, the arrogance of some, the incompetence and inconsistency of many. Couple that with parent and coaches who don't have boundaries and respect for the officials. It's a powder keg as so many have decided to hang it up out of frustration and no longer enjoying doing it. And a younger generation who is not stepping up to help out. I would not want to do their job on today's environment.. and if you don't like the job the ones are doing that do it. They offer classes all the time. Sign up and become one to help out. If it's not that hard then step up. If not show out!!😎😎

Also, spending a Friday or Saturday night away from your wife/kids after a work week isn’t exactly appealing to a large demographic.
Now, if you could make a could hundred bucks per game then it might change some minds.
