This league will be between Huron and Oak Harbor. The Willard Dumpster's will not even be in the top half of the Bay division. I hate to break it to you. Huron has the best player in the league, best coach, and the best athletes. Look out for Freshman guard Jack Bradburry to make an immediate impact. Could be the best freshman the SBC has seen since Jayrese Williams. Averaged 25 points as an 8th grader for the Tigers. Will assume most of the ball handling by seasons end. GO Tigers Oak harbor and Vermilion should be league favorites. Huron freshman guard is nice but not even close to about a half dozen others in front of him...…. Willard, Clyde x 2, Sandusky, Tiffin...…..all have better freshman.

I wouldn't put Huron and Edison in the win column and Bellevue returns one of the best, if not the best PG in the league in Ruhlman, a lot of size including 6-7 Caleb Marshal, the best Soph post from last year. From someone with no irons in the fire, it looks like .500 at best.

A split with Edison is very realistic and taking 2 from Huron may be a stretch but doable. All this is contingent on the Flashes developing and geling the young talent.

"All of this is contingent on....developing and gelling the young talent". Is not that the case with most high school teams? Willard can't claim that as their mantra.
A mistake for Willard to drop Ontario, they might have been a win for them this year

However, I can argue Willard's ceiling is higher with the addition of Parrot and Devon (Crestline move in).

So the Willard faithful are predicting a possible trip to regional but are supplying early reasons for an 8 win finish. COM"ON GUYS!
Willard should be much better than the 6-18 last season. With a 2nd year coach and a simplified schedule 12 wins should be a minimum. If some of you actually believe what you are saying, "they are loaded", then I would think a 20 win season is fully expected.

The word on the street is this team has some players that could make an impact for Joe this year, that is yet to be determined because games are won on the court. The parrot kid and the crestline kid seem like good players from what those around the program are saying, but again they have never played with these other kids before so it may take 5-6 games for them to start gelling. Willard's issue in the past has been perimeter shooting and there are some kids coming up that are good shooters. Joe will have to do some soul searching here because I think, sorry that I'm giving my opinion and it is just that so I'm not trying to tell Joe how to coach, they have too many post players on the team and need to move these younger perimeter shooters to varsity and maybe move a few of the post players back down to JV that played varsity last year. Tough pill to swallow but it would be best for his varsity team because come tourney time he'll need those outside shooters, they will smother parrot so you have to have a few more resources that can knock down those 14-18 footers. And as far as a 20 win season, depends on kids staying healthy and eligible but I would give them at least 14-16 wins.

I have to give truecrimson some credit. Balogh has always said it's nice to have a few tall post players on your roster, you can't "coach tall". However, he says the high school game IS won with a team full of good ball handlers and outside shooters. His Final Four team didn't have anyone on the roster taller than 6-1 and every starter had the green light when it came to shooting 3-pointers and they made a lot of them. BUT, you couldn't over defend them at the 3-point line or they would drive past you for layups.
The problems seems to be that parents of now Sophomores and the players themselves, that have had some success in the past, are already unhappy about the "move ins" playing in front of them.
Players not willing to wait their turn, and unrealistic parents thinking they know better than the Head Coach is a formula for failure.

He always said good guard play is the key to winning high school basketball games....none more important than the point guard.

Coach Haas actually loved to used to say, “give me a good guard and a good post and I’ll win games”.
I like the 14-16 prediction for wins, seems about right.

The fans are the same though.

I don't know anything about coaching this team all I know is what I have saw work on really great teams. Too many post and not enough perimeter shooters hurt you, that is all I'm saying. And again, just a general opinion.

There are kids that have been superstars as middle-schoolers and they struggle as JV or even Varsity players. It is funny how fast kids grow and catch up to one another when they get in high school and that kind of levels the playing field.

I try to remember when I watch kids play that JH-JV success doesn't mean varsity ability. I remember watching the Willard team last year and seeing the 6'7 kid step out and shoot 3's. You could just see that he wanted to play a lot farther from the basket.

Would have been nice to see a 1-2 punch down low with him and the crestline kid this year but based on what I've saw on the board today about the transfer violation it looks like it may just be a 1 punch. What a bummer.

Made it over to Tigers open gym and was very impressed by what I saw. We will have no shortage of 3 point shooters on this team, and the Freshman PG Barnoby looks like a stud. Reminds me of Steph Curry with how quick he processes the game and can shoot the lights out. This open gym of course did not even include the football players.
Look for the Tigers to run away with the Bay division and potentially the State.

^^^^ Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Last few years, It seems like your Tigers under achieve, with your present coach, And JV coach. They are a talented group of kids, But way under achieve. Margaretta should take Huron Huron to the wood shed.

A tough ending for the Huron Tigers football season. Especially considering that team had state title aspirations. Anyways it should be an exciting year for Tiger basketball. I'm told the freshman kid is for real. A lot of young talent in the program makes things interesting. I've heard Paul Hinckley and Jah lea will be going out for basketball this year. Should give Huron a few more athletes to run the floor with and will certainly give the program a little boost. I look for Huron to win the league and compete for a state title this year.

Vermilion was the class of the Bay last year. I believe that I posted the same last preseason. IF Hurd comes back quickly and healthy from his football injury, I see no reason that Vermilion doesn't rule the Bay again this season.
Take out a hiccup vs. Huron after they had already clinched the Bay, and they more than handled their business all season long. Only 2 or 3 Bay games were even within 10 points. The only thing that they lack to go with the potential POY, Montgomery, is a big post player. No height/width on the roster.

Projected Starting Line Up:
PG: Jack Bradburry (Fr.) SG: Scorggins (sr.)/Hurst (Soph) SF: Wennes (Jr) PF: Leh (Jr) C: Ritzler (Jr)
Breaking news, as stated in the football forum, Projected starter Paul Hinckley will now be joining the wrestling team after having a shift of focus following a pre-game incident Saturday. He should compete for a state title, and is being recruited by TCU scout Freddie Gibbs. However, we will see 6'5 junior Jah Leh on the hardwood. HE is the best pure athlete I have seen at Huron since Zack Deverna graced the halls of Huron High.
