Ed Oliver of Houston #8 in Kiper's Top prospects is skipping Houston's bowl game Iowa's TE, #1 rated TE is skipping Iowa's bowl game What's the point of these Bowl games? Oh yeah, Universities are using the bodies of these players to make millions then not giving a dime to the players putting their bodies on the line. Kuddos to all the players not playing in these bowl games.
Pay 'em or don't play in 'em. Have a REAL PLAYOFF and all these kids would play. Ed Oliver would be playing if Houston was in the PLAYOFF, but no you want him to risk his body in the "Poop Cleaners Toilet Bowl" so Houston can pull in big $$$ and not give Ed Oliver a cent.

Can a mod change the title? Should read 'turning' nor 'turing'

Are you suggesting college football should turn their athletes into professionals?

Rambo,
I have to agree for the most part, these bowl games are turning into what appears to be big pay days for the college, with these athletes getting little to nothing in return.
The one point I will argue is regardless if your #1 in the NFL draft, or going into the work force after college, these kids are getting their college paid for. I know 100% for some isn’t but I think some people look at how much money the colleges make compared to the kid getting school for free and say that’s not fair. Life isn’t fair.
Some of these kids get a free college education then puss it away, shame on them. I’m not sure paying these kids is the right answer either. We see how many NFL stars blow their dough like morons.

We can all agree, the limits need to be greatly increased for stipends and other allowances. The NCAA has never relaxed their ridiculous rules when a kid has a family medical emergency and he lacks the financial means to travel home. Many a coach has been reprimanded or suspended for doing the right thing and relenting to humanitarian needs, violating the archaic NCAA rules.

The bowl games accomplish 3 things:
1. Teams get to practice another 3-4 weeks. This helps them develop the youngsters for next year. 2. Football during the week on TV (instead of numerous college basketball games I don't want to watch). 3. It allows fans to have Bowl pick'em contests.

FAKE NEWS. Houston and Iowa could give a shat if Oliver or the TE don't play. IF this is ONLY about money as you purport. The schools in the Bowl games make the same amount of money win or lose.
