I wish I would be wrong on this but I just don't see Norwalk winning this game or maybe not another game this year until McFarland gets rid of that spread offence of his. And that 3/4 defense is a joke in high school football. These group of kids we have are made (and used to) running an I formation or a powerhouse t formation and they run a 4/3 defense better. He needs to change his style to what the kids do the best.

Of course there's room for improvement in any offense, but many teams run it and run it successfully. Besides, you need to remember that a power offense may consistently work in a smaller conference such as the Firelands Conference, but probably wouldn't work consistently in a conference such as the NOL or SBC. As for the defense, it's my understanding it's a new scheme this season, so of course there are bugs to work out. As far as maybe not winning another game this season, anything is possible. But closer examination of the schedule shows there are indeed several winnable games left on the schedule.

What games are winnable in your eyes?

Scott, I do believe that Bellevue runs a lot of I formation and Pro style offence and they have been very successful in doing it. And that 3/4 defense there are an awful lot of Pro, College, and High Schools do not like that defense at all. I think Norwalk should be running a 4/3 or 4/4 defense. Besides these kids have been running an I formation or a powerhouse offence and a 4/3 defense in 5th. 6th. 7th. and 8th. grade football and have been very successful with it by either winning the league or coming in 2nd. place each and every year. So I know Norwalk has the kids to win or have a successful season for along time if McFarland goes with what he has in the kids and scape that spread offence and that 3/4 defense and goes with what kind of kids he has. He has great kids, I know because I helped coached them a few years back, and the kids have told me that they don't like the schemes either.

Bellevue runs nothing resembling a pro-style offense, and I can't tell you the last time the Redmen lined up in the I. For years, Bellevue has run a no huddle spread offense with the QB as the primary running threat. They did have a passing QB 2-3 years ago, but even then he was rotated with a QB who was brought in to run. And let's not forget QB Jalen Santoro, who rushed for over 2,000 yards his senior year. That's not a pro style offense.
Even now, Bellevue runs a shotgun offense featuring QB Foos and RB Ray.
And keep in mind that while an I formation may work in grades 5-8, it's certainly no guarantee it'll work at the high school level. In fact, the lower levels should be running at least a watered down version of the high school offense. That's what most successful programs do.

Don't let the truth get in the way of Death's rants! Somebody should also let him know the MS has run the spread for years as well, as the MS coaches run alot of the varsity stuff, so the kids can get used to the formations and language.

I thought the MS ran the spread or some form of it, but I wasn't 100% sure...

What games are winnable in your eyes? Ontario, Columbus East and Willard. And yes, I'm aware Willard's last two NOL wins have come against Norwalk. I don't have a read on Columbian yet, but I could be swayed to say that's winnable. I'm not saying NHS will win those games...I'm saying the potential is certainly there to win them.

9-7 is the final, an early safety ended up being the difference. Wow, great job Norwalk!

I went to this game, and to those who didn't go or know any better, Norwalk had a solid shot in the 1st half to really blow the doors off of Lex. I'm wondering if any of the offense have feel left because they certainly shot it enough times.
Aside from that, I was like many......didn't think NHS had much of a shot(pardon the pun to my reference up above), but the defense was outstanding. Congrats to the Truckers on a solid W.

Ugly boring game. "Norwalk had a solid shot in the 1st half to really blow the doors off of Lex." The truckers had 61 total yards in the first half. IF Lex had not given them the ball on 3 turnovers they may have not had a positive yard total for the game.

Did you go to the game? If not, you're basing on stats. Those TO were deep in Lex' territory, and NHS was living at the Minutemen's red zone a chunk of the 1st half, but the Truckers did not execute(missing open receivers, botched snap on FG attempt, etc). But, I digress. It was a game many did not expect the Truckers to win, and they got out of Richland Co. with the W.
