The conference's oldest and fiercest rivalry game. This will be the 70th meeting with the series knotted at 34-34-1, I believe. Go Pirates!

Awesome info Pirate80! I heard when the rivalry first began they played the game on the infield of the horse track at the Morrow County Fair. Do you happen to know if this is fact or fiction?

This is fact. The first meeting was like in 1906 or something like that. Game wasn't played again until the 1940s but it has been played every year since. The Game was originally played on the infield of the fairgrounds.

I voted for MG out of loyalty. Even though my son plays for galion, i graduated from mg. We were something like 3-1 vs cardington when i was in school.
I still think cardington probably wins this game but according to the moac site, mg has a rb who is racking up the yardage.
But i agree, this is THE rivalry in the MOAC.

My senior year we beat MG on their field on the last play of the game. The band and practically whole visitor stands stormed the field. It was truly an epic moment.

I like to catch this game every year. Don't care what the records are, or what other match ups may be going on. This is always a special game.

Graduated from Edison in 1958. They consolidated with Mount Gilead in 1960 and my two sisters graduated from MG. Two grandsons played football at Cardington and two granddaughters attend now. One is a sophomore cheerleader. I'll be there as a neutral.

Usa70pp, i went to that school when it was only an elementary. I remember how they had the edison graduating class pictures outside of the principals office on the 3rd floor.

Cardington has won 9 of last 12 here. MG's last winning season was 2004 and they are 36-84 over that span. Pirates are 48-62 over same time period with 5 winning seasons. This will be a game where we find out if MG's running back is for real. Also, find out if Pirates D can make stops and get the O on the field. Pirates have lot more weapons but can QB find them open. Go Pirates

Unfortunately, Cardington's receivers have dropped a minimum of at least one open touchdown pass in each game.

Could be an interesting game Friday night. Very diverse offenses that's for sure. Cardington liking to spread it out and air the ball out a bit (they can run too obviously.) Forget the MG coaches name, but I know he's the old O coordinator from Johnstown from something along the lines of 2009-2011? And the Indians like to line up in the I and pound that ball. Haven't watched them this season, I know last season when they had the Deondre Cook boy at QB they liked the triple option too (the kid was actually a pretty excellent athlete.) I've heard the name Bland for their QB this year, anyone know if that's correct? I feel like there has been a Bland at Mount Gilead the past 15 years and they've all been pretty athletic.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head on all points there. Composure might be what gets a team a win Friday night. This game tends to get chippy.

Composure is key. We all know that yellow flag loves to make appearances after huge key third down stops too.

Has MG really played any team that was good this year. The Pirates have had 1 tough game with Ontario and played a now over rated Galion Tiger program and a Worthington Christian Program that would rather just play Soccer! I like the Pirates tonight with a running clock after 3 Quarters.

I like the Pirates tonight with a running clock after 3 Quarters. MG got beat by what will probably be a decent Colonel Crawford team. Had a high scoring win with Crooksville who usually is not very good and just squeaked by Ridgemont who historically has not been very good, so far Ridgemont is 2-1, but those two wins are against 0-3 Ridgedale and 0-3 Arcadia

I see I was not at the MG VS. CC game did the running back for MG have a good night. The Paper say's he has 14 Touchdowns to his point 9 against Crooksville which is awesome no matter who the competition is. So I figured he had 3 against last Friday's opponent and 2 against CC. Cardington will still win this game of Morrow County Giants

Should. But that isn't how rivalries always work out. Trust me. Our Colt level programs play tomorrow. One of my coaches woke up this morning to his house being covered in purple streamers and other various Purple Pride nonsense. This one's different. Go Pirates. #beatpurple

First half each team shot themselves in the foot several times with penalties. If the Barnett kid gets the corner, he has speed to burn. Scored 3 or 4 times tonight, 200 plus yards. Dingtown scored with 1:01 to play in the first half to go up 21-13 and then seemed to lose focus in the 3rd quarter and MG went up 28 to 21. Cardington tied and then went ahead 35-28. MG scored with 3 or 4 minutes to play but a bad snap on the PAT left the final at 35-34 in favor of Cardington. Plaques given to the MVP of each team in the "Battle of 42". Barnett from Mt. Gilead and McCarrell from Cardington.

Morrow County Sentinel reports 347 yards and 5 touchdowns for Barnett. Knew he had a lot of yards, but he got them so easily I forgot how they were adding up. As for the 5 TDs, I watched the second half from beyond the end zone in front of the concession area and except for the one he ran right at us I had trouble seeing the others that half as two were at the far end of the field. The PA wasn't that easy to hear plus I was talking with my granddaughter and her father and got distracted.

I saw the stats for this game. How did Cardington win this game, outside of MG's issues with extra points??
MG had 200 more yards off offense. Cardington's All League QB was 9 of 21. MG had twice as many penalties for twice as much yardage. There were no turnovers.
Did Cardington have some long punt returns and/or kickoff returns, did MG have some shanked punts and/or bad kickoffs to give Cardington short fields to work with for their TDS?

Purple missed a field goal and repeatedly went for it on fourth down and failed. It was glorious.
You are right though. Our qb has had accuracy issues all season. And then when he does throw a good pass, our receivers drop an awful lot of passes. I'm very surprised to see that MG had more penalties, because Cardington had several huge plays called back.

The Barnett kid is for real. They will win vs Northmor, Elgin, EK, and maybe Fredericktown. Better have your track shoes on for him. Not sure about Centerburg or Highland. Pearl was our MVP Friday night hands down as he has been in weeks 2 and 3. He had 2 td catches and ran down Barnett 2 or 3 times to save tds. Pearl has 4 interceptions and 6 tds. McCarrell hasnt been where as accurate as last year also calling his own number more than last year too. We need him. He has to play better this week to beat Centerburg.
