I think we need a new thread. Six game season. Everyone makes the playoffs. Can keep playing after you lose in playoffs to get 10 games.

So are schools going to go conference only? Makes the most sense

I've asked this several times already: How do you put forth such a specific plan, but in the same breath say nothing will go forward unless the health department order is amended?
This will be a nightmare for ADs to figure out.

I think it’s pretty easy for most schools. Start with conference games then go from there. SBC Bay/Lake crossover (for most) week one then play division games. 8 team conference will have some discussion what that looks like but they’ll figure it out.

Similar concept to what I proposed last may in the 2021 expanded playoff thread. Post by fbfan on May 21, 2020 at 1:31pm I think they should cut the regular season to 9 weeks and put all the teams into the playoffs. That way, every team has a theoretical chance, just like basketball. They could use a first round bye and bracket system to ease the mismatches in the first few rounds. Week 11 could be used by the 1st round losers to schedule a rivalry or rematch game, only if they desire to. Players get to play, schools and OHSAA get to make money. Everyone wins a ribbon.

One interesting thing. Teams can opt out of the playoffs and schedule others. Assume that the first six weeks do not change. If that is the case, then Bucyrus Upper and Buckeye Central. Willard and Crestline should opt out, and play each other. That way, some of these struggling programs have at least a chance to win a few games. For instance, Bucyrus is scheduled to play Upper and BC the last four weeks. Somebody will have a chance to win. Crestline and Wiilard would be good matchups for any of those teams.

If Willard does not opt out an early congratulations to the Flashes for making the playoffs for the first time ever without Todd Fox as part of the program

I don’t see schools not playing their conference schedules.

If Willard does not opt out an early congratulations to the Flashes for making the playoffs for the first time ever without Todd Fox as part of the program The Todd Father will be 3-3 in Trucker Nation. Also, 5 appearances in 8 years. We're a playoff making machine anymore.

I don’t see schools not playing their conference schedules. I would think it would come down to a vote of the members. Some may prefer to keep their NC games if possible. A 6 or 7 team league would seem to have a scheduling advantage. The once "perfect" 8 team league will not be able to play a full round robin. What a mess. The only good thing I see is that the OHSAA probably wouldn't have made this plan if the governor wasn't leaning toward letting them start the season.

The elephant in the room for OHSAA is the ability to make money on these playoff games. If we see reduced capacity I cannot imagine field expenses, clock operator(s), gate personnel, security and officials being covered by a 20% capacity crowd which has been standard in attendance discussions.

Yes but who makes money on playoffs [ohsaa) and loses money and potential home games in this proposal ( member high schools) even in reduced fans. Can see this forcing some schools to forgoe leagues this season and go to alt-county or nearby school games only.

There are some leagues in NW Ohio that had already developed contingency plans in case of a shortened season (league games only). Also provides them with flexibility if football is moved to the spring.
I have no idea what the SBC has done, if anything. Is Hedden their commissioner?

most conferences are 8 teams or more..those teams should fill out their schedule right there..... SBC wise...play your divisional games... then get one non league game... (crossover) example huron v perkins will likely stay....

Someone tell me how this minimizes the risk of COVID? It lays out a plan for teams to be able to play a season and playoffs with it ending earlier than normal. If teams experience a shut down week they can still play and make the playoffs. If they choose not to they have that ability. The answer to your question is if the Gov says it's ok and the school says it's okay then the final decision is now up to a parent to weigh the risk versus playing a season. I like it.

This just spews the true agenda for ohsaa, show me the money!!! I do not think you are wrong but this is what the survey results provided for. A majority of the voters selected the option of having a reduced regular season and a full playoff. So in that area the OHSAA gave the school admins what they wanted.

The idea of selecting your top rival games regardless of in or out of conference could be appealing for some.

This just spews the true agenda for ohsaa, show me the money!!! Playoff games for everyone 0-6 willard vs 6-0 anyone hows that gonna work out? Show me the intellect!!! There is no money in the playoffs this year, even if expanded to include everyone. The only people in the stands will be the relatives of the players. There is more money to be made in ONE round of playoff games in past years than this year in ALL playoff games.

Schools won't be negotiating for the OHSAA to get more money.
How many tickets are sold for the average play off game? 10,000? That's around $50,000/game that will not be collected. Broadcasting rights can't/won't make that up

With the latest news from college, MAC canceling the 2020 season, some Power 5 ADs saying all of college football being canceled is inevitable, I will be shocked if Ohio High School football is played at all.

We cancelled basketball season and track and baseball and tennis ----did it really do anything? Serious question . Does anyone know of a single kid age 1-22 who fell ill during this? By ill I mean infected and had symptoms. I hate to hijack this thread, but my goodness I bet if they singled out the cases of people who were at risk vs not at risk I'd guess the figure would be so small we'd be shocked.
Once school starts, we'll know pretty quick what we are dealing with. I feel so sorry for the athletes coaches and parents who won't get to enjoy HS or College sports because we let fear take over our lives.

I know 2 26 year olds that were positive. My kids. They had minimal symptoms but if they got near my mom who is 85 and just had open heart surgery and she caught it it might not end well. People don't get it.
