OSU backing off Eli Ricks because Day is afraid of roster attrition if they get him? Begs the question of who’s really running the show in Columbus? Ryan Day or the players. A lot of people questioning the validity of the source of that information.

Roster attrition is a legit concern. So is position continuity. Have had the discussion before about the pitfalls of being known as a pro football factory while trying to avoid the kids to whom you are just a pro football factory. It's a concern. Also I am of the opinion that Day is going to be hamstrung by this coaching staff. They are getting long in the tooth. Day himself also concerns me to a point because the play calling vs UM was terrible and i don't know if Day was calling the plays or Wilson but that was bad. We passed the ball every single time we were in shotgun and ran the ball 80% of the time we weren't in shotgun. Who were we fooling with that garbage? Day still has a lot of support down here mainly because of the recruiting and also because he killed Dabo. I think he needs to fire some coaches BUT OSU (and the entire B10) has been notoriously lukewarm when it comes to dishing out SEC money to assistants. It was a lot worse before Urbs. Hartlein is only making about $600k. I mean good grief look at who Saban has coordinating his O every year. Kiffin and Bill O'Brien. Both NFL head coaches. Sarkisian, who was going to be Al Davis's hire for head coach but he raved about Kiffin so much in the interview Davis hired Lane instead. There is no way we shouldn't be able to pay Chris Ash more money than JAX. Possible he prefers the pros but you gotta talk to him. Also lol at UM you cats pussed out on an a55 beating last season and got a little bottle courage in the snow this year. Don't dodge the site for half a decade then quick switch back to board warrior after 1 win.

Jim Knowles officially hired as new DC. Had a great year at OSU this past season but prior to that had been pretty average at both Duke and OSU.

I think what was factored in, was the improvement curve, in his time at various schools. I have no opinion or feelings on this hire at the moment. I trust Ryan Day's judgement at this point.

I trust Ryan Day's judgement at this point. 4-2-5 defense that has a lot of similarities to what Don Brown did at Michigan before he was let go. In order to make that defense work OSU is going to have to dominate upfront similar to what Michigan did before Hoke’s linemen left.

Always a concern bring in a new DC who runs different formations than the guys we recruited to run something else for someone else. 4 and 5 star defensive athletes can be this high, in part, because of plays and formations they ran in high school. Making major changes can swing the value of some recruited players quickly.

Been listening to 'Full Ride' with Rick Neuheisel & Chris Childers on ESPNU this morning. Topic discussion this morning is coaching hires and coaching job shuffling. They said the best hire to date, is Ohio State acquiring Jim Knowles for DC. Rick said Ohio State hit it out of the park on this one. They both agreed, Jim Knowles was the hands down, best choice for the Broyles Award and they explained in detail, all the reasons why.
Knowles is a man of great character, possessing a great personality that quckly bonds with his players, a keen, football intellect and should be able to use all his assets to kill it on the recruiting trail.

Sonny Styles reclassifying and will be joining Ohio State a year early. I've never been a fan of kids leaving high school before their senior year, They need that extra year of maturity, Instead of seeking fame and fortune, fresh off a Sony Playstation game. I was hoping there was a lesson to be learned from Quinn Ewers, But I guess that's the sign of the times, We older folks are having a hard time adjusting to.

I agree it's broken. I just hope the person fixing it can use the kids were recruited by the guy that broke it.

They only played 2 LBs and in essence a 3rd Safety ala the Bullet position. What was missing more than anything was good tackling and toughness. Looks to me why this guy was brought in.

big difference in proximaty Styles resides in Pickerington. Ewers in Texas. Styles dad was Lorenzo Styles a pretty good OSU LB in the mid 90's. Have a feeling the familiarity of the program etc will help the transition to be a lot smoother. Access to the OSU fitness and strength training in the off season will be a big upgrade from a HS one even though PC is a very good HS program. Once Styles gets stronger and heavier he's going to be something else. Hits like a truck and as a 5 star, he's got the intangibles you can't really teach. Sean Taylor in a lot of ways.

all it needs to do is work out for one kid and others will follow no doubt,,especially with the early money they can make in NIL,,,which doing it locally will be easier as the name is more recognizable. With a dad as a former player, that much easier.
Really interesting info that came out yesterday on the Knowles hiring. He's been targeted for awhile by Ryan Day as he knew of him from watching a couple years ago when he was going after Yurcich for OC/ QB who ended up at Texas with Tom Herman. A lot of similarities between Day and Knowles in their coaching styles and preparing a team. I think it sounds like Day knew early into the season that Combs was a mistake and so he put him in the booth for games which was a clear demotion on top of giving defensive play calling to Barnes. OSU is in a spot with Combs as I think he may be the odd man out but he's been a good recruiter although he has lost guys recently too. Did those kids go elsewhere because they think Combs is gone, possibly ? Teams are doing that against OSU because everyone knows there will be guys departing as Day looks to improve his staff/ team.

It will be interesting to see if Coombs is kept on staff. I'm guessing there will be such a conversation between coach Knowles and coach Day, as to the disposition of coach Coombs. I've seen the immediate tendency of skeptics, to put coach Knowles into a neat little box, and label him as an unforgiving, one dimensional, 4-2-5 guy. Not the perception I am getting of him. I doubt if there will be any preconceived notions from him. First and foremost, there will be an objective analysis of the talent he has to work with and go from there.

Other than Coombs, I don't think anyone else will be "departing", if that means let go. There will always will be assistants or coordinators leaving for higher paying jobs. They even leave at Alabama where they pay their coaches more than anyone in the country. The best D-line coach in the country isn't going anywhere unless he wants to retire, on his terms. Coach Stud isn't going anywhere. He has done a great job developing O-linemen. Some complain about having 4 Tackles playing on the O-line, but I would bet a large amount of money that was Ryan Day's idea. As that would give his QB the best protection. I'm not sure Day really cares as much about a run game. But even he could change if Harbaugh finally did. Tony Alford has done an amazing job recruiting the best high school running backs in the country AND he found Miyan Williams. Brian Hartline? Need I say more?? Matt Barnes did a heck of job in a very difficult situation. If possible he should be given a bonus. Al Washington. This will be his 3rd recruiting class and the 2022 class has 2 of the top 5 LBs in the country in it. If Knowles doesn't like the way he coaches technique, with his personality he WILL let Washington know and with Washington's personality he will look elsewhere. Corey Dennis is too young and inexperienced to go anywhere of significance AND CJ is a Heisman finalist. Kevin Wilson, he's over 60. For a significant amount of money to help his retirement he might consider taking another swing at being a head coach. That would be it, unless there's friction between him and Day in play calling OR Day is looking for a scape goat. JMHO

Big commitment from Caden Curry to the Buckeyes today. A top 100 player and one of the top defensive linemen in the country. Dline now with him and Kenyatta Jackson in this class. Would be nice to add Hero Kanu too and possibly Omari Abor.

Anyone hear if Olave and/or Wilson are leaning toward opting out of the Rose Bowl. I haven't seen them on any official lists yet. The 7 point opening line hasn't really moved much.

I didn't see it coming. This is like the Indi...Guardians when it comes to Free Agency. They never sign the big names, just the cheap ones and hope for the best.

He was originally recruited by Ohio St as a LB, so this makes more sense than you realize
What’s the likelihood that the Rose Bowl is played?
