BigHoss, From what some of my friends are telling they are still planning on continuing with the rivalry. Those two places really hate each other. Cass in point when the fans came on the basketball court and began fighting (at least that's what I was told and read in the paper ). Don.t remember the year that it happen, maybe Willy can tell us.

Clydesbcfan, Thanks for posting Willard and Shelby's schedule for next year. Can you find Norwalk's schedule for next year please. I know that they say I can find it on OHSAA site but I can never find it.

Willard @ Norwalk open Shelby @ Huron @ Edison @ Margaretta SJCC @ Lakota SMCC Calvert Willard's fortunate with the league they're moving into with some auto tomato can wins coming the next few years. Flashes could field 7 players and beat Lakota & SMCC. If they beat Margaretta & SJCC and fill the open slot with a sloth, a .500 record is possible. Huron might even be beatable they are down. Edison will beat the beegees out of us again. We'll of course beat Calvert by 75 because Fox isn't a good coach. Flashes are now a big fish fighting small pond teams. Football & basketball in a position if they can get something, anything going with a pulse the football team can play in week 11 and the basketball team will be a regular visitor to the districts.

Willard @ Norwalk open Shelby @ Huron @ Edison @ Margaretta SJCC @ Lakota SMCC Calvert Both Ontario and Clear Fork will have an open date in week 2 next year. Their non-league will go away, due to them both moving to the MOAC.. I hear Willard chose the longer drive to Clear Fork over Ontario for their week 2 game.

According to what I've been told, Clear Fork is playing Northridge in week 2 next season. No reason to believe that is true but I heard Freddies, NR then JA.

Thank goodness Willard is getting out of that match up with Plymouth. But Plymouth graduates all those seniors next year Willard should want the rematch? 😑

Scarlet...once again your right! Talked to Devier yesterday. He tells me since Plymouth graduated so much,Willard will in fact reschedule the Big Red. Week 2 matchup next year is with Plymouth...not Clear Fork. While Foxy is a great coach...Devier has owned him over the years when they go head to head. A lot of time with talent similar to Willard's. Basketball will continue to schedule the tough games such as Madison, Lex, and Shelby, in order to keep people like yourself happy. (Can't win...you'll ***** about beating similar schools and ***** about getting whipped from teams we shouldn't even play).

(Can't win...you'll ***** about beating similar schools and ***** about getting whipped from teams we shouldn't even play). I'll be friendly here as I genuinely do like you. On a quick note I'd love the opportunity to ***** about beating smaller schools. Please, let's do it, we need to start somewhere. I'm not sure why you are on the case of those few of us that still care. A lot of people I talk to are completely apathetic about Willard sports. I still love them, always will. Have a Willard hoodie on as I type this. You grew up in this area and sport. It has to burn you not to compete with the Bellevues & Tiffins anymore, and dammit you can't be satisfied or happy with getting beat by Plymouth or rationalize that it's ok. It's not ok and never ok. That doesn't mean we blow, it means that cant' be acceptable in your eyes and I know it's not. My posts are nowhere near attacks, I'm sure you read my stuff a decade ago. I'm a tame kitten in comparison you are just understandably highly sensitive to every word I type considering your situation. Some parents considered your post about not having enough 'jimmys and joes' an attack, I corrected them and said you were only talking about injuries. People can assume everything on the internet either way. Take what I type at face value, not as a constant dig. Yes I wanted Fox but I do support the hoops coaches & programs and I'm being honest when I say this. A great opportunity is there for Willard hoops to make yearly trips to districts & regionals which is a great thing. Not a dig.

^^^ I appreciate you trying to straighten out things with these parents that thought the Jimmys and Joes comments were an attack. The fact is, I meant exactly what I said. We do not have enough decent athletes to compete with teams that do. Period, plain and simple. Parents that have a problem with that had better take a more aggressive approach to getting their sons and daughters in the weight room, at practices, to camps, and open gyms...and away from the gaming consoles/ cellphones/drugs. Yes it makes me want to puke every time Willard loses a game or starts a new losing streak. But until the kids buy in and parents stop the coddling...it is what it is regardless of which coach is running the show. By the way, I genuinely like you as well. My frustrations with the Willard athletic culture runneth over!

cc, many of those frustrations are everywhere, but few have the history Willard does for loyal community members to be upset.

cc, many of those frustrations are everywhere, but few have the history Willard does for loyal community members to be upset. I'm not even 'upset' scooter as in mad. I hold no problems with kids or people spending their free time coaching. It's thankless in Willard right now and I get that. It's hard to take out of my head visions of packed gyms in the 80's, packed football fields in the 90's, complete community spirit and joy and passion. It may not be fair to compare 2016 to those days, but once it's in your head you can't erase it. Just would love the kids, parents & coaches to get a taste of those days again. I think they all deserve it.

I think you are correct in the feelings you have and remember from the past. those are great feelings to know. But I also think that in many ways they are a way of the past since to many people today do not have a feeling of community like the old days. Not saying it cannot happen again, but in todays age of smartphones, social media, mega malls and super retail outlets, people are not staying as local as they used to and something gets lost in my opinion. It not only deals with school spirit but also community spirit. Makes it tough for guys like us that loved those days and those feelings.

My concern is in regards to the Plymouth game. Does Plymouth have more athletes than Willard? The answer is NO. My concern is why were we not running to the one receiver side when Plymouth is in a 4-4 defense and they are rolling the outside linebacker to the one receiver side over the trips side. There are multiple plays that you can run to the one receiver side that are open because you have them outnumbered on that side. My concern is that no one on the coaching staff saw that and that puts the Willard team at a disadvantage. Football is about X's and O's and there in lies my concern. You can point the blame wherever you want to. People were mad with Matula and how he ran the ball all the time. When you don't have "the Jimmy's and the Joe's" you keep the clock moving. You don't throw the ball three consecutive times and have a 35 second drives. My concern starts where it should, the guys running the show. All I heard for months from Don Graham is how this new guy was "an amazing hire"....."we made a big splash with this hire"....well, so far all i thing we have seen is a belly flop. This is my concern.

Makes it tough for guys like us that loved those days and those feelings. Yeah we need to just change our mindset, let those days go and set new goals and hopes. For me with Willard it starts with a .500 football record (no matter how we get it. Tomato can or not). Basketball the goal every year is to compete for a league title and at least make it to districts. Those are my goals and hopes personally and I think Willard can achieve both within 1-2 years for both teams.

Willard basketball should not have issues competing for league titles in the SBC, nor should they have a problem reaching the districts year in year out. Though that goal could be delayed if they fire Long before he gets a chance to do those things in the SBC. If Willard blows it all up before the SBC era, it will take much longer to be competitive in the league.

You never know they fired our main winning program coach Dawson for about 24 hours a few years ago and then hired him back. 40% of the school board tried to vote out long a few months ago I also believe even after a few sectional titles under his belt. If they really want him to succeed they will allow him to kick troublemakers off the team no matter who they are related to.

I hate the idea of lowering expectations but I have accepted that we cannot relive the past and although great, it does not matter as much today to the kids. And even some parents forget what it took to achieve when they are supporting their child and not the team or the program.

No more Willard/Ontario in basketball? That's a shame. Not real rivals, but there have been a lot of great games over the years. I can remember in Balogh's early years, he would always scrimmage Willard and take some real beatings from Haas teams. He'd use it as a lesson for his players, that's the way the game should be played. After having the Ontario job for a few years. If there was anyone who influenced Joe, outside of Bobby Knight, it was Bob Haas.
