I didn’t say they could be great. only said they have enough talent in that has to hang with a bad fc team.

Why do you keep comparing them to a bad FC team? And they were 0-11 last year and 0-2 so far this year, who’s to say they’re better than even the worst FC team?

Just using the firelands as a example because willard has been playing teams in that conference the last several years. In most cases those teams were not great fc teams. Best finish probably 4th. Sometimes those teams were a bad fc team in terms of how they finished. Willard has hung with those teams and even beat them. They have also been beaten badly. When they lost badly I would say those teams were not necessarily a bad fc team. I also compare them to the firelands because i feel the bay is a much stronger conference top to bottom.. Occasionally the bay has marg and vermilion who are typically bad, but that’s one team. And of course Willard. The firelands usually has multiple teams that are bad. So there would theoretically be more teams that Willard could hang with. I believe this coach will turn things around and they will no longer get beat by some of the areas worst teams. Whether it be firelands, sbc river or n10. I believe that because I believe Willard has enough talent (wouldn’t take a whole lot) and now has a good coach. Time will tell though.

Unfortunately, a lot of that talent will be gone next year. Losing the RB who set the school record, a very talented WR who missed week one, another very athletic kid who was going to be QB, but ended up at WR as well. And countless other seniors that contribute. And it always makes me chuckle when I see now has a good coach, do we not remember what happened at his last school, worth a google. And getting almost running clocked week 1 and running clocked this past week. And it gets drastically tougher as the schedule moves forward. But I do agree, only time will tell how this all plays out.

Willard has not had a winning record in the last 15 years (in 2005 they were 6-4) and I do not know how many they did have in the 15 year before that. During those years how many head coaches have they had and what is the longest stay?

But I do agree, only time will tell how this all plays out. From what i heard it wasn’t football related. Please enlighten me. Plenty of jrs ready to step up. Full back had 100 all purpose yards in the first half against sc. I believe he didn’t play much in the second half bc of injury. It takes a long time for a coach to change a culture. That’s why I’m not too concerned at this point. If they get running clocked next year by sc and plymouth I’ll eat crow. Also two of the players you mentioned have only played hs football for two years. Two different coaches. From my understanding, last years coach did a decent job getting players to try football out. This year they are working hard and hitting the weights and being disciplined. Next year it will all come together and they will play with a little more grit and confidence. Record is whatever. Just be a tough out and play with some passion is all I want.

It was football related, like I said google it his name and should be a news source with video that pops up letting you know what went down at Elida. I agree it takes years to build a culture, especially one that has not been decent for years, but the problem with Willard is they only give coaches about 2 years before they start looking for the next, not nearly enough time to enact serious change.

I’m thinking We've got the right guy this time. He needs a chance to fix things. Since you are good at googling "woods"---go back further to when he took Wayne Trace to the State Final. I think he'll be fine here. Revisit in a couple years.

I would say yeah lets revisit in a couple years, but knowing Willard he will be gone after next season if it does not drastically change

woods sure does seem to have a bone to pick with this coach. I don't mind the guy, I hope he does well for the kids sake, All I am saying is there is a past for him and some look at the state title run and others look at the last job he had. Just do not know if they had other opportunities with coaches that also applied for that job other than him.

Football numbers in rural America have been slowly dwindling for years. It will take a unique administration / coach to bring this program back from the abyss. COVID is certainly not helping with the pregame testing, early morning testing each day before school, losing huge, etc,. Right now (nor for about 2+ years) there isn't much for the boys to enjoy. Couple that with really questionable play calling and positioning assignments for a few of our best athletes and I'm not sure our roster numbers are gonna get better...nor our win/loss record.

I would say yeah lets revisit in a couple years, but knowing Willard he will be gone after next season if it does not drastically change Willard history can show that one of three things may happen after next season. 1. Record stays the same then he gets fired. 2. Record stays the same and the coach sees no future there and quits. 3. The record improves from the Coach's efforts and it opens doors elsewhere and he leaves. Unless he is totally damaged goods from his Elida days, I would be shocked to see him at Willard longer than 3 years total.

Unfortunately does it rarely happen because someone didn't like them when they were there.
