Very slow start but now doing what we thought they should.
McCord with some early game jitters. Not really lighting it up or making a strong case to be the permanent starter.

The defense seems to be flying around but I’ll take it with a grain of salt since it is Akron. Let’s see how they look next week against Rutgers.
I was hoping McCord would ball out as I think he’s a better pure passer than Stroud but I think if healthy next week, Stroud will start again.

What...maybe 90% of the players in the Defense 2 Deep have never played college football or very little?

8 sacks in the game, nice to see but Akron’s line also didn’t seem too good. Let’s see that production during big ten play.

I know this is just after today but the buckeyes remaining opponents post a 25-7 record, if and that’s a big if, they win out you could see the scarlet and gray in the semi’s.

This could be the last game the backup QBs get any playing time. Rutgers and Maryland are no longer jokes.

It was great to see the defense playing aggressively, especially young players, afforded by having this game on the schedule and being able to play it in full this year. The residual effect of lost opportunities for game experience from 2020 has contributed to the early performance of this team in 2021.

This was a rebuilding year regardless of what our high yearly expectations are.
Too many new guys on defense and a straight up rookie QB .
If nothing else — the Akron game should help our confidence level which was sorely lacking .
Rutgers is legit. They look much better under Schiano than I expected.

This is not a rebuilding year, this is a rebuilding process within this year. Rebuilding year, suggests the cupboards are bare and that is not the case this year.
I expect marked progress game to game, moving forward within our schedule and by the time we see PSU, most of our question marks answered and ready to play at the level we were hoping to be at, early in the season.
Rutgers had every opportunity to win in Ann Arbor and actually had the momentum swinging their way late second half. Greg Schiano has them playing quite well and the program on track.

Rebuilding does not suggest the cupboards are bare. Every college team has 80+ players on their roster the following year after a Senior dominated(and early exits to the NFL) team's season. Rebuilding means seeing how quickly a completely new team can get back to the same level of the Senior laden team from the year before. As Ryan Day has said MANY times, the pandemic exacerbated the problem. No spring ball, no summer camp, no preseason games and no blowouts for back ups, who would be starters this year, to get important reps and playing time.
Expect Rutgers to have opportunities to win in New Brunswick this Saturday.

I guess, in my thoughts, when people start the.....'well, I guess this is a rebuilding year' talk, they are essentially writing off this year as a lost cause. Putting rebuilding in more of a positive light, with a progression in mind, that may be a short or long term process, is more palatable. I still think this team can be very, very good and still earn a B1G Championship.

This Akron game really tells nothing. Akron is beyond just bad, may be the worst team in the FBS. Will see more about this team against Rutgers because this isn't your normal Rutgers team they are pretty solid this year from the two games I have watched of theirs.

Haven't we all heard what you are echoing. Actually, I could care less what Akron is or isn't. My focus was on our players performance and execution. I have zero doubt, the coaching staff has their focus on our players. Again, not the least bit interested in Akron. Their problems and shortcomings are not our problem. I just wished we had Akron in week 2 instead of Oregon, because this team was ill-prepared to take on an experienced team that early in the season. The pieces are beginning to come together and hopefully the young Buckeyes will be establishing an identity on both sides of the ball in the coming weeks. The cohesiveness is just not there quite yet, but it will happen.
