One thing is for sure, they’ve taken the meaningfulness out of making the playoffs.

They are correct in that article. It is only a cash grab, At the expense of students Health. After the investigation is over with that Bishop Sycamore, Would not surprise me if the OHSAA was behind it all.

16 teams is way too many. I understand the state needs to recoup their money losses from a year ago. Trust me they are with online ticket sale being $10 a ticket during the week and then $13 at the gate. I would have liked them to do 12 teams instead of 16, give the top 4 a bye week, they did that last year. Many kids will get hurt and it will hurt the product.

"Of those 30, ten would not have made it even if the modified 12-team format — used last year due to the COVID-19 situation — had been the setup. We saw upsets like a 16 seed beating a one seed in Division IV, Region 14 (Milan Edison over Bellevue, 23-22)."
This is incorrect -- EVERY team made it last year. Teams had the choice to opt out....
Maybe, just MAYBE teams in same regions (or leagues) will play someone a littler tougher during the regular season now. For example, in the SBC Oak Harbor played Fostoria, Woodward, and Bowsher. Watered down big time...Gets a W, but not even in a 16 bracket does it get them in, which is funny! At least huron has the stones to play some people!
Overall, NO it has not hurt the playoffs or getting in. If someone sneaks it, it gives them an extra week of practice, if anything at all.
Don't use "kids can get hurt" excuse.

Hopefully the crowds tonight will be better then last week. I do think they need to go back to 8 teams getting in but I think enough lower seeds won last week to justify keeping 16 teams getting in. If the OHSAA is making a lot more money from this then this isn’t going away.
With this being the playoff season I’ve even noticed a major drop off in talk on here with football. It almost seems like high school football interest is slowly dying off. When a school with the enrollment of New London didn’t even have enough kids going out and a handful of others that are barely hanging on to football there’s a big problem.

Give teams a few years to readjust their schedules, and I think you will see more #13-16 seeds winning. Archbishop Alter as a 1st round winner #15 seed is a good example of a team who has a schedule with high annual turnover that could react more confidently to the expanded 12 (and then 16) team format. They had a game with Belmont cancelled this year, and they took on a D1 Miamisburg (6-4 regular season) and lost 33-14. They also replaced Columbus DeSales with Archbishop Hoban this year and took the L.
Norwayne scheduled tough in their non-con this year, playing Hubbard, Canton Central Catholic, and Clyde. Norwayne hasn't been scared of playing tough teams in the past, but now the penalty for stepping up to that challenge is much more diminished.
Clinton-Massie struggles to find opponents at times, so does Marion Local. Schools like these will find themselves in better negotiating positions when getting games on their schedule - after all, how bad does a loss hurt when 16 teams get in?
Most schools are locked into their non-con for at least 2ish years in advance. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot more ambitious matchups between certain schools and across divisions. The goal isn't to schedule your way to the top 4 for a home game, or top 8 for a berth like it used to be. Flexibility is going to lead to schools tolerating 6-4 seasons in a way that only the niche Catholic powers could usually get away with. Logically, that will lead to lower quality teams sneaking into the higher seeds come playoff time.
The bigger gripe I own would be that D6 & D7 isn't a meaningful enough distinction for D7 to exist. Keep D1 a tighter, smaller division. But we can condense the remainders.

Crowds are smaller because, Not everyone has the technology for these on line tickets, And not willing pay the $13 today that were $10 yesterday. That's why I'm not going to Port Clinton tonight, I'm cheap. I wasn't able to get a ticket earlier in the week. I'll stay home and listen to it on 100.9 FM., And won't be Patronizing the OHSAA B.S.

Still a bit steep but cheaper than the $12 it costs after 4

i wanted a ticket to see Eddie And the Redmen but I couldnt find there game anywhere. Bellevue? where are you Bellevue? if it wasn't for the expanded playoffs the Redmen would still be playing. Damn it I hate you Edison!

All about money for the state, an independent team who is not in a league can make the playoffs with zero wins, as a coach, what team goals do you set. Just Ohio’s way of giving participation trophies, which is ruining high school sports

Basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, and volleyball have been ruined by this "everyone makes it" format for years. How's a coach to motivate their team?

I love the argument of I’m not paying $10 for a ticket but will still pay the same for a couple packs of cancer sticks or a 6 pack of beer of the discounted NASCAR shirt at Walmart

I scanned the brackets and I saw a 14 seed-Wooster and an 11 seed-Anna will be playing next week but, I may have missed some. I like the expansion to 16 teams.

If you don't have either one, then get help from a family member/friend/neighbor/coworker. If you want to go to a game bad enough, you will find a way.

Basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, and volleyball have been ruined by this "everyone makes it" format for years. How's a coach to motivate their team? "everyone makes it" has always been the case in basketball, soccer, baseball, softball and volleyball. Everyone also makes it in CC. 53 years ago in the first year of the playoffs, a total of 12 teams in the entire state made it, 4 in each of the 3 Divisions. Now there are 7 Divisions and 80% of the teams in the state make the playoffs. The best thing about the expanded playoffs? Shelby and others got to win a game in the "tournament" this year. That would not have been the case if there only 8 in each Division.
