The 78th meeting between these two teams will see a new stadium added to the series history for the 2nd time in 4 matchups. The Shelby Whippet Athletic Complex will become the 5th stadium to have hosted this game, joining Harmon Field, Skiles Field, BAF, and Ashland Community Stadium.

Shelby led this Series 28-17-2 prior to Nasonti. Nasonti brought back the Silver Bullets and made a heavy emphasis beating Shelby

I've noticed on Pick em thread many are going with Bellevue. I'm sure the Shelbillies will love having their new facility initiated with a Redmen victory, Ha!

Bellevue has made Shelby's trivia pretty easy lately. They were Shelby's final NOL game and they will be the first opponent in the new stadium.
I like this non-conference game a lot since Shelby doesn't often have playoff contending teams in their non-con slate. Before the 16 team expansion, Shelby has twice since 1999 had seasons where two of their first three games were playoff teams. Last year counts as well, but it feels wrong to say 4-7 Lexington counts in that stat.

Drove out to check out the new field progress. The field and bleachers are ready go. It looks nice. However, because of all the construction going on around the athletic complex, it's going to be a mess. There is still equipment and piles of dirt all over the place. I think parking is going to be challenge until things get ironed out and the entire complex is finished. There will be plenty of parking but those who don't show up early may have a nice walk to get to the stadium. Some may be foreced to park at the old high school parking lot or YMCA if they allow it. The prime parking spots are limited. They built a new road to enter the complex from the north. It's called Championship Drive and you can access it via State Street. However, it was closed when I was out there. They may open it up for the game Friday though. Latest pic of the new field and bleachers. Map of the athletic complex Map of the new complex

That field looks awesome, glad the away team doesn’t have to dress in the dungeons anymore. An upgrade that was needed. Go Red!

Map of the athletic complex Map of the new complex The walk to the field will be no worse than parking at the car wash and walking to Skiles, or the walk at Bellevue from the middle school (or whatever school is in that far lot) or the walk at Edison from the cow pasture, or the walk at Marion Harding. The Y will allow parking.

Pasteur has Bellevue by 12 Calpreps has Bellevue 34-22 but only gave neutral field I can explain the neutral field to home field adjustment, plausibly. It'll be helpful for anyone who may read this. Bellevue has a Drew Pasteur rating of 144.1, Shelby has a 130.4. 144.1 - 130.4 = 13.7 difference Since DP assumes all ratings (note, not predictions) to be based on a neutral setting, it seems he suggests that a home/road setting is worth a 1.5 point swing from a neutral field setting (DP says Bellevue by 12, but his ratings show a 13.5ish difference in the two teams and their ratings). As far as how he discovered this home/road difference, I assume he built his rankings agnostic to the home stadium being played at. Once you add on a magic "fudge factor" to account for playing at home, it wouldn't be difficult to see accuracy ratings go up in predictions. It makes sense. If I blindly apply a 1.5 point boost to all home teams and see my accuracy rates go up compared to applying no boost, a 0.5 point boost, 1.0 boost, etc. etc. etc...you can put a number to the intangibles of playing at home. I do think you can find some bare bone level of documentation of Calpreps that discusses how their ratings work, including home/road dynamics.

Buckeye 33 may be a tad optimistic in his assessment of the parking tonight. The large grassy area just south of the field is still chained off and apparently will not be available for parking. There remains much construction equipment, dirt, stone and material piles all around the stadium and in the few parking areas nearby, The closest parking area is now reserved for the buses, handicapped and concession workers. Shelby players will park in the auxiliary gym lot and band members will fill one lot in front of the high school. There are some spots around the new K-8 complex but those are limited. There is one small stone and dirt walkway to the main gate around the construction debris and equipment. And, other than the stadium lights, there are no lights in the area. Shelby band members struggled last night in the dark walking back to the band room from their stadium practice. Just my observations from a drive and walk through this afternoon. Biggest thought -- remember this is still a CONSTRUCTION AREA WITH LIMITED PARKING AND LIGHTING -- BE CAREFUL!

I was there about an hour ago, and wow, what a parking nightmare. Construction equipment is taking up most of the old MS lot. Shew, get the hiking boots out for the jaunt tonight

Bellevue had a great opportunity to score the first points at this stadium, but was unable to do so.
Bellevue did, however, score the first TD.
6-3 Bellevue at half.

Nice stadium, but Wasn't impressed with the scoreboard though. Huge screen, tiny numbers. Did anybody notice that you couldn't see the right of the 8 in Bellevue's score from the visitors bleachers? Poor planning on that one. Poor placement as well. Almost have to turn 90 degrees to see it.

If you noticed, bottom right corner of scoreboard dented and bent back. Cement truck hit it! Supposed to be repaired or replaced next year. Agree difficult to read numbers from stands.

Not surprised by the outcome of this game, Shelby has a very young team. They will be a 500 ball club this year...maybe 6-4.

They’ve come a long way in a short time. I don’t think the rest of their schedule is that tough. Bellevue and the big division of the SBC is just a more physical league.

Bellevue 24 Shelby 9 Final I was going to ask about this Friday, but didn't, but now I see it in the paper. 0-for-4 on two-point conversions Friday for Bellevue. All four of these tries were passes too.

Yep. 3 for 3 vs PC and now 0 for 6 since. They built a new road to enter the complex from the north. It's called Championship Drive and you can access it via State Street. However, it was closed when I was out there. They may open it up for the game Friday though BTW, I wanted to say thanks for pointing this out. It was indeed open from State Street Friday night. I wasn't able to arrive in Shelby until just before 7, so took a gamble by turning down State to this new road. Worked out perfectly....people were parking along the side of the new road next to a cow pasture behind the home stands, so I did too and had a relatively short walk up to the gate just in time for kickoff. Would have taken a lot longer to find a spot and get into the stadium in time had I come in on Smiley Ave. After the game getting out was a breeze, as almost everyone else who had parked on that street had already left by the time I got back to my vehicle and no almost one from the main lot was going out that way.

Right on! It's a perfect access road for Shelby's former NOL foes coming from the north. Should be handy during basketball season as well.
