I wasn't able to make the Shelby scrimmage last Friday. Any idea how that went?

I'm sorta shocked nobody from Galion went to the football scrimmage last Saturday and wants to comment.

Lex appears to be much improved over last year. Galion was missing a senior starting guard and the sophomore struggled which really limited Galion on offense. I was told the defense looked pretty good and that 1 of the tds came as the second teamers were being subbed In.

Heard that our Tigers were very impressive tonight against Tiffin. I really think this is our year.

The game portion ended up with Galion tying it on a pick 6. The final score for game competition was 21-21.

Shelby beat Norwalk, 21-20. Whippets couldn’t put the ball in the end zone until the last 5 minutes of the half, then string together 3 really nice quick drives. Defensively, gave up a couple big TD plays on 4th down.

With the beginning of the season starting tomorrow, here are my final thoughts before the season as to where I see the MOAC shaking out. The top tier (any one of these are contenders to win i this year) Clear Fork. They are the champions until someone knocks them off. They are still ultra talented, the question we all want to know is will there be any drop off from Dave Carroll to Aaron Brokaw. Highland. With Nauman returning they are instantly a solid contender. Will they take the next step. Galion. They return a ton of talent with 8 starters on offense and 9 on defense. Some of these seniors were starting as freshmen. The talent is there. Is there enough to win their first MOAC championship? Shelby. They were young last year. They are well coached. Are they contenders this year? Or are they a year away? They will be better than last year.
The middle. Ontario. I just don’t see them able to beat any of the four above them. Their quarterback is an excellent player. Just a shame that he won’t grow into his body any more. They are the best of the middle teams imo. River Valley. I see them taking a step back this year. Losing the Shidone boys will hurt. They are well coached, but I see them reloading a bit. Marion Harding. Last year was a disaster from the outset after the coach resigning 10 days before the season began. They should be better, but I just don’t see them contending at least this year.
The bottom. Pleasant. It’s sad to see them struggling as they are being the proud tradition they have. But they will continue to struggle this year.
One of the fun things about high school football is the unpredictability of it. I will enjoy seeing how this post ages as the season goes along. Feel free to agree or disagree with this, but I feel comfortable with it. Let the games begin!!!

Galion’s Holden Hunter (linemen), Linkon Tyrrell (linebacker), and Landon Campbell (punter) were named first team All Ohio in DIV. Running back Gabe Ivy and linebacker Carson Frankhouse were named third team. All five boys are seniors.

Congratulations to Galion’s Holden Hunter # 77 for signing his letter of intent to play next year at Ohio Dominican University. He became a starter on week 2 of his freshman season and ended up starting his final 43 high school games.
