The NFHS (the OHSAA is a member) has made a change to Rule 4-8-1 which will eliminate the one-and-one scenario and sets new foul limits for each quarter. Teams will shoot two free throws for common fouls when team is in the bonus. Team fouls will be reset each quarter with a team in the bonus once five fouls have been committed in the quarter. This eliminates all one-and-one situations along with the seven and ten foul limits for a half.

Was their interest to shoot more freethrows in a game?

Someone probably complained that their feelings were hurt missing the front end of a 1-1 and not getting that second try

Personally, I LOVE this rule change. Hopefully, it will discourage some of the incessant fouling at the end of games.
As a scorekeeper...they will now have to re-program all the scoreboards and re-design the scorebook page.🙂

Was their interest to shoot more freethrows in a game? This actually lessens the amount of free throws. Look at NCAAM vs NCAAW basketball for some statistical comparisons.

I would not compare NCAAM vs NCAAW to answer any question. The games are played and called very different. I suppose you could look at NCAAW before the change and since.

Originally, you had 16 minutes to collect 7 fouls. You could've had a rough 4 minute or so foul fest and then been stuck with all those fouls for the half. Now you have 8 minutes to collect 5 fouls, then a reset.

I was thinking of it you had 2 more fouls to give before you were given a single shot. IF it was made you were given another. Now you will always be given 2 shots after the 5th foul. Some teams used to have to foul intentionally at the end of games to put teams in the 1-1. No problem either way. I actually like the change but wondered why it was made.

I think we can all agree, the rule change will be interesting.
