Pleasant at River Valley: Pleasant may be the surprise of the MOAC. Taking them on the road. Ontario at Clear Fork: CF struggles will continue against an offense that seems in rhythm... Several key 2 way players out for CF does not help. Galion at Shelby: Should be interesting, I'll take shelby at home Marion Harding at Highland: Highland gets back on track New Philadelphia at Mansfield Senior: Senior high appears to be 1 dimensional with the pass, will it bite them in the butt this week? I think so. Lexington at Wooster: Lexington continues to improve and gets 3rd win in a row Ashland at Mt. Vernon: Young bernhard leads the arrows to a W in Knox county West Holmes at Madison: Knights travel back to Mansfield and get a win this week.

Pleasant at River Valley: The Spartan resurgence is real after one win a year ago. An impressive win over a good Highland team last week. But does Pleasant have enough athletes to slow down the 5 wideout R Valley offense? This could be another basketball score like many R Valley games. R Valley by a few. Ontario at Clear Fork: CF being 1-3 is surprising. Losing so badly at Galion is downright shocking. Ontario's offense was inflated against a bad defense last week but the confidence of the Warriors is riding high. Upset of the week. CF in a close one. Galion at Shelby: Game of the week in MOAC play. Galion looks really good after four weeks. Shelby is dangerous with their big play offense. While the Whippets can strike from anywhere on the field, Galion takes early control of the MOAC race with a solid performance. Tigers by 7. Marion Harding at Highland: Can Highland bounce back after the loss to Pleasant? In another upset, I say the hangover effect from week 4 costs Highland in week 5. M Harding in a thriller. New Philadelphia at Mansfield Senior: Senior wins a close game with a big play late in the game. Lexington at Wooster: Lexington is stringing together some wins. Wooster struggled with Madison last week. Lexington by 10. Ashland at Mt. Vernon: Ashland's youth continues to improve but the growing pains cost them a win. Jackets take this one at home. West Holmes at Madison: Madison's march to a winless season continues with another loss in Week 5.

Pleasant at River Valley Ontario at Clear Fork Galion at Shelby Marion Harding at Highland New Philadelphia at Mansfield Senior Lexington at Wooster Ashland at Mt. Vernon West Holmes at Madison Thoughts on these games. Seeing RV get thumped last weekend a Pleasant take out Highland, I see a solid win for Pleasant this week. If Ontario rolls into the valley and does anything close to last weekend, we will start to hear the negatives about an AD hiring a cousin to be the head football coach. CF had high expectations. Maybe the game of the MOAC this week. Both teams look good so far but Shelby may have just a little more. Just another good opponent for the TYgers. Give them the edge since they are home again. Minor upset if New Phil pulls off the road win. Lexington youth is finding their way on the offense but the defense is still giving up some points. Lex can out athlete Wooster this year, regardless of coaching. I see Ashland reloading and emptying the chamber on the jackets. Gunslinger show in Mt Vernon this Friday. West Holmes is still working on the D and special teams. With everyone health they get a chance to work on some things in a mid-season scrimmage. WH big

I would say most people I have talked to are happy Carroll is gone based on the accusations against him. Some feel Brokaw was not the right choice from the outset, and definitely that way now if they teetered. Regardless, several injuries to key personnel have started to damper the outlook of the season. Would also, argue that the talent pool is a bit shallow currently. In HS football it comes down to the X and O's, and the Jimmy and Joes play a big part of that.

Pleasant at River Valley- Pleasant wins another one and continues to surprise people in the league
Ontario at Clear Fork- Ontario is rolling and CF is in a free fall. This game to me will be a great indicator of how the rest of the season goes for both teams. If Ontario is on the upswing, they should beat these guys and not let them hang around. If CF is going to rebound, this is the time to do it, they have struggled on O and if they cannot muster a win or at least a 1 possession game, I can see the wheels falling off.
Galion at Shelby - Well Shelby can prove me wrong this week by being stout against a physical running team. Bellevue was able to control the game by eating up TOP by running the football at will. Shelby relies too much on the big play and trick type plays. At some point, those don't go your way and they need to be able to run the football better than they have against physical teams with equal or better talent. I think this game is a close one, my heart says Shelby, but my head says Galion. So since there is no money involved, I'll take Shelby by 3.
Marion Harding at Highland - Highland gets it going again. by 2 scores.
New Philadelphia at Mansfield Senior- Senior will be able to stop NP on O, Senior in a close one, 20-14
Lexington at Wooster - Wooster, even though I should probably take Lex. You just don't know what Lex team will show up.
Ashland at Mt. Vernon - Ashland by 2 scores
West Holmes at Madison- WH in a running clock game.
Anyone have any word on Fillmore?

It was said retired from teaching and taken a small position inside the district to allow him access to players during the day and keep coaching without drawing a large salary or an administrative position. As for the accusations against him, they have been made for the last 14 years and he was still there. When they did decide to fire him they knew, or at least they should have known, they were not going to get a top shelf young coach to come in for $18K a school year. The fact that multiple applicants asked for a much larger position or to be allowed to keep their current teaching position in another district is only fair to their families. The right choice for the position they have is exactly what they got. It is very true the Jimmys and Joes make the difference, but if you spoke with anyone in the valley last year they talked about the level of football talent being very strong for the next few years to come. Trying to be fair.

Well of course 18k wasn't going to do it. But neither is the overall low salary schedule the district has. Even after the last CBA it is still pretty inadequate imo. From what I have seen, CF's youth program gets kids a head start compared to other area schools, which leads to early success in Jr. High.. but then time catches up and the playing field becomes more leveled. So talent does exist, but that talent is not superior to what other local schools have on their rosters. I do not believe the area has seen a team with overall superior talent compared to everyone else since Lexington went to the Regional Finals in 2017(think that is correct) and Sr. High in 2019. Other than that it appears to me to be rather balanced talent wise.

Which, if true, means coaching is crucial. And I’ve made that argument for years. With rare exceptions most schools have about the same kids walking the halls. It’s the law of averages. It’s about training and conditioning them, motivating them, and coaching them on fundamentals and the system.

Pleasant at River Valley - Pleasant continues to surprise although River Valley can scores might be a bit of a shoot out. I take the Spartans 33-31 over the Vikings.
Ontario at Clear Fork - Ontario is rolling but the Colts will show some pride in the Valley. But I still think the Warriors prevail 28-17.
Galion at Shelby- this could be a very good ball game. I like the Whippets in a wild one 37-33 over the Tigers.
Marion Harding at Highland -the Scots are licking their wounds a bit right now, but should recover this week. Highland wins 40-20 over the Presidents.
New Philadelphia at Mansfield Senior - two good defensive teams match up at Arlin Field Friday night. Mansfield Sr's offense is a bit more diverse. So Tygers win 31-14.
Lexington at Wooster- the only question I have can Lexington's defense hold up? I hope so. I have to go a little bit with my heart. The Minutemen 23-14 over the Generals.
Ashland at Mt. Vernon- Ashland I believe is just better than Mt. Vernon. Arrows 30-19 over the Yellow Jackets.
West Holmes at Madison- Madison still searching for a win this week on Esley Lane. The Knights big 49-14 over the Rams.

A few thoughts on Galion at Shelby. Shelby holds a 80-33 advantage in the all time series with 8 ties. If any Shelby people have different numbers I’m all ears. The series has been much even in the last 8 meetings as both Galion and Shelby have won 4 times. This dates back to 2007. The series is 2-2 since Shelby joined the MOAC in 2019. In fact, Galion is the only MOAC team to beat Shelby twice so far. This includes Galion’s 34-27 win last year. As far as this game goes, Galion will be trying to establish their style of physical running attack with some passing to break it up. This was necessitated last week after Clear Fork loaded up the box. On defense, they will need to try to apply as much pressure on Shelby’s quarterback in hope of forcing him into some bad throws. They definitely have some great receivers for him to throw to. I’m really looking forward to the clash of 2 different styles, and to see Shelby’s offense in person.

On the subject of the rest of the games:
Pleasant really surprised everyone by knocking off Highland. I’m not sure how to feel on this yet. RV appears to be as they have been for the last few years. High flying offense and little defense.
Ontario / CF. The fun of the season playing out is seeing how each team stacks up against each other. We will know more about CF if they are really down, or if Galion is just really good. I’m high on Ontario, so if this one is close then the former is probably true.
Highland / Marion Harding. I would surely think Highland would win this going away but then again we all thought they would beat Pleasant easily too.
In the OCC, I like New Philadelphia over Mansfield Senior, Lexington over Wooster, Ashland over Mt. Vernon, and West Holmes big over Madison.

Stop crying about the mean old coach who pushed your kids hard and made them good players. You go ahead with your new coach that makes everybody feel better about themself and get everyone a participation trophy. I would take Dave Carroll as my school's head coach any day of the week. Life is hard. Nobody is going to hand you anything that you don't work for and having a coach that gives you that push is invaluable to teaching football and life lessons.

I think you are missing the main problem people had with Carroll. It was not that he pushed kids or coached them with intensity. I believe most people appreciate that aspect of his style. But it is what dude referenced "...As for the accusations against him, they have been made for the last 14 years..." Those accusations are what people wanted to see handled. Mainly the alleged verbal abuse/name calling. I agree that x and o wise he was pretty darn good most of the time, and clock management and some in game strategy things could be considered his weakness. But I do agree that they could definitely be headed towards the cellar if there are no improvements made. IMO tonight will tell the story for the rest of the season.

There's a fine line between a coach being tough and a coach and being abusive towards players and staff. Things had teetered on that line for many years. I have seen a lot of coaches with both approaches. Still, The Valley will always have that Tough Mentality!

Shitshow by Galion. There was a bad call at end of first half that shifted things. Couple injuries on Galion’s side, but they’re getting their a ss handed to them. Shelby may win the league.
