Here are Drew Pasteur's rankings for River Division teams in 2016. Who's going to improve, who's going to stay about the same and who's going to be a little worse?
97.6, #399 in the State, 6-4 Calvert 87.4, #520 in the State, 5-5 Margaretta 82.9, #559 in the State, 4-6 St Joe 80.3, #583 in the State, 2-8 SMCC 79.7, #588 in the State, 1-9 Willard 71.9, #646 in the State, 2-8 Lakota
St Joe was Pasteur's 2nd most improved team in the State of Ohio last year with a +25.3. Are any of these teams capable of making a jump like that in 2017?
Only 1 team from this division made the playoffs in 2016, how many will make it in 2017?

What team made the playoffs? All the records are terrible! This should be a good league for the teams involved sense they are all in lower division.

Tiffin Calvert. They lost in the first round.

Per Courier twitter...Fostoria St. Wendelin will drop football.
Breaking: According to an email from the school, St. Wendelin drops football, most likely for good.
We'll have more later tonight.

Too bad for them. Though it won't affect this league, as they were always considered one of the 3 non football schools (with O.F. and N.R.) when dividing up the divisions.

Hearing Gibsonburg is interested in the SBC and possibly Hopewell too. Wondering how that turns out and if Danbury does the same.

Has Danbury ever expressed interest that you know of, or were you just mentioning them as a possibility? Danbury's closest TAAC league member is Gibsonburg. It makes so much sense for them to join G-Burg in the SBC, assuming the interest is mutual. I do realize it's Danbury though and from what I understand, they are rarely logical.

Moving to the river division would not be in Danbury's best interests. They're better off driving 100 miles round trip in the TAAC. They just would not be competitive.
Gibsonburg would be an excellent addition to the river division.

Fostoria St. Wendelin will always be a River Conference member in your 'new' SBC, Whether they have football or not. They're not getting rid of anybody.

Would it be safe to assume that if the SBC does add anyone, they will only do so in a way that keeps the total number of football schools at an even number? Any odd number would create scheduling issues for at least one division.

As if they don't already have issues with 6/division. In actuality 7 is better than 6, for that one division. One fewer non-league game to worry about.

Trying to find 2 games for weeks 4 & 5 when the list of other schools looking for non conference games then includes: The 12 schools from the other divisions of your own conference, any school in a league that has 6 or fewer teams, any school in an odd numbered league whose bye week is in week 4 or 5, independents Trying to find a single game somewhere in weeks 6-10, when the list of other schools looking for non conference games then includes: any school in an odd numbered league whose bye week happens to line up with yours, independants (what 5 of the 7 have to do, the lucky 2 who have their bye in week 4 or 5 have it much easier)

I also personally think this will hurt teams trying to get into the playoffs (big picture). I know some people will disagree with this.

Gibsonburg appears to be a lock to join. Guessing it would have to be for 2018-19 with scheduling already being completed for next year, at least in football. The ripple effect should be exciting to watch unfold (if any schools bump "up" to the Bay, possibilities of Hopewell, Danbury, etc.)...

Let's say they add Gibsonburg and Hopewell. They could make the River division of 8 teams.
The Bay & Lake at 6 each could then do 2 crossover games (weeks 4&6) against each other.

For the other sports, the divisions all have 7 schools: Lake | Bay | River | Bellevue | Edison | Calvert | Clyde | Huron | Lakota | Columbian | Margaretta | New Riegel | Norwalk | Oak Harbor | Old Fort | Perkins | Port Clinton | St. Joseph | Sandusky | Vermilion | St. Mary | Shelby | Willard | St. Wendelin |
So I would imagine that adding 2 more schools would result in having 2 divisions with 8 and one with 7.

I agree with the long travel they have and I wouldn't see Shelby wanting to go to the Lake division after 2017 season.

I don't think it's pointless at all to have New Riegel in the league. Very good baseball program, basketball is usually very good and girl sports are very good as well

From initial indications, Danbury is interested in coming with Gibsonburg to the SBC. Makes sense. We shall see how this plays out.

How many yes votes does it take to approve new membership? I can think of 3 sure no votes.

You think Lakota wants to move up to the Bay in basketball?? They're currently the the largest school in the River Division in basketball. With 2 smaller schools joining, that's where they'll be put.
Vermilion said they would not join the SBC if they were made to play in the Lake Division in football. That's where they're headed with 2 small schools joining.
Why do you supposed Willard decided to go to the NEW SBC? They hoped for something close to a .500 record in football. That was a possibility in the River, never gonna happen in the Bay. That's where they'd be headed with 2 smaller schools joining
All very logical, if one thinks about it.
