www.ohsaa.org/Sports-Tournaments/Football/Football-2017Not much for the area, except Tiffin moves to DII as a result of an 88 add-on to their enrollment. Seems VERY high. Huron and Willard back to DV. Think everyone else in the area stayed in the same division. Edison was two boys away from DIV.

Wow! Tiffin to div 2. That's awful. We won't see a playoff game ever again.

Where are all these kids coming from? Some of them might be coming from Bloomville and Bloom Township, which used to be part of Tiffin's school district but switched over to Buckeye Central 5-10 years ago.

I saw Plymouth volleyball moved up to Division 3 after having a competitive balance adjustment of 35, I didn't know they had that many girls on their volleyball team from not in the district.

I thought that was more like if you go to state a bunch of times and win state, etc. If that was the case then Norwalk St. Paul volleyball would be getting punished. I'll have to find all the rules on competitive balance.

I thought those kids went to Seneca East, learn something everyday That would have made the most sense, and is how it should have been done from the start IMO. However, due to old rivalries, Bloomville refused to join Attica and Republic in the merger that formed Seneca East in 1970, and instead elected to be absorbed into the Tiffin school district. Then in the early 2000s Tiffin wanted to close the Bloomville elementary school, so Bloomville made the switch to the Buckeye Central district....who ended up closing the Bloomville school several year later anyway when they built their new K-12 building in New Washington. Not sure if TornadoWarning is still here or reading this, but he could give more info on the Bloomville story and correct anything I might have wrong.

Success of the program has no influence. Your enrollment is only based on the number of students and then the CB if they have one

I know I read somewhere that they were considering program and season success, along with enrollment etc. just read on ohsaa.org the competitive balance 101, nothing to to do with school success,

I remember reading that too, they may be only doing it this way.

I think they screwed up. They have Toledo Central Catholic with 455 boys and the biggest school in D3. They have Tiffin Columbian with 420 boys and in D2.
Or is this the Catholic exception rule where even though TCC had to have an adjustment of 220 boys, they don't count all 220 and let TCC whip up on D3 schools.
I noticed a lot of Catholic schools with HUGE additions but are in the exact same division they were in last year. Did they fudge their numbers to make themselves smaller to counter the additions they knew they'd get added to their total?

^ I could be wrong, but I seem to remember reading that they can only move a school one division either way, no matter how many competitive balance adjustment numbers are added. Still, that switch to the BC district by some communities was a while ago, don't know if that would still have an affect. With a +88 adjustment, Tiffin must be doing some of the things that the private schools do.

Look at the rules! A lot to digest. Private high schools can pick a school district or a feeder school. The big penalty comes when a kid moves in after a certain grade and is not in the school district or feeder school that is selected. Public schools are feeling the hit just as much if not more.

A few things,
1. Tiffin has the biggest CB number of any public school in Ohio at 88. Its more than most of the mid level private schools. 2. Toledo Central Catholic is the biggest school in Division 3 because with the new rules a school could not move up more then 1 division solely based on the CB number. So they only move up to D3 from D4.

There obviously was an error with Tiffin being +88. All student-athletes are counted as 0, 1 or 2. That would be at least 44 open enrolled students that started attending TC in 9th grade or later (they are +2). No way that's the case. Someone made an error that doesn't appear to be changed. Unfortunate.
As for the CB - it by no means is impacting the public schools like the privates. Simply look at the CB add on number column. Not even close.

For those wondering about previous success being a factor in competitive balance---that was a suggestion or proposal at one point, but it was removed when a member schools balked at that part of the wording.

Does an athlete that moves into a District after 7th grade or 9th grade count in CB? Now that there is CB does an Open Enrollment athlete after the start of 9th grade still have to sit out half of the season of sports played at the prior District?

An athlete that transfers after enrolling in the 9th grade sits. Before that no. I'm not sure about who all counts in the CB formula.

If the student is on a varsity roster with CB and has one parent who lives in the district then no, they do not "add on" to the enrollment count. ohsaa.org/Portals/0/SchoolResources/CompetitiveBalance/CompetitiveBalance101.pdf

The competitve balance numbers are not based on one sport! They're based on all FEMALE sports. example if you have two volleyball players out of the district, 6 cross country players, 5 basketball players your total is 13 . if your base enrollment is 100 add 13 to that and they go with 113. winning states does not change your numbers. and you can only jump one division regardless of add ons

Every school's emis will be the same, but their cb changes sport to sport. Take a look at a school's volleyball and then look at their soccer. Don't look at divisions, just look at the emis and cb numbers

It can not be JUST location of student, because #1 they only had ONE live outside the district that played last season. and the previous season they still only had ONE. ? And ONE move in last season that played on the freshman team?

Out of retirement for one post (hopefully). As I was asked about huron status on this. My understanding is two tiers. If you do not live in the district you are a tier 2. This would be information from last school year not past fall season.... but 7 would sound about right based on the explanation of how it's done. Also. Plymouth should be all smiles for getting bumped up. D4 is LOADED.
