School Division Marion Harding 1 River Valley 2 Galion 2 (1 person over being D3) Clear Fork 2 Buckeye Valley 2 Ontario 2 Shelby* 2 Pleasant 3 North Union** 3
*Could be joining MOAC for basketball season **Could be leaving MOAC for basketball season
I believe all teams are in the same divisions as last year except for Galion and Clear Fork going from D3 to D2.
Also, feel free to post news about how teams are doing over the summer.

Galion will be playing at Findlay tomorrow and Saturday. They play 7 games then a tournament. Of the 7 games they play, 4 are against D4 teams, 1 is against a D3 team, 1 class 3A team from Indiana and the B team of a class 4A team from Indiana.... Seems like a strange schedule for a school that will be playing D2 and plays D2 and D3 schools in conference play. I checked these teams out and they're not even good D4 teams either. Either way, hopefully they play well.

May be a perfect schedule for a team that won 3 games last season. Crawl before walk mentality.

Dude it's summer league. Who cares? Just get a ball on the court and work on your fundamentals. Take away Ontario and the MOAC isn't exactly a power conference anyway. Now girls basketball in that conference is a different matter altogether.

Sometimes bad competition makes it harder for players to actually focus and work on fundamentals though.... The competition will probably be better than I think, but at least on paper it doesn't look good.

Summer leagues are a crap shoot anyway with kids on vacation and having other commitments. Even if you scheduled higher division who knows what they'd bring with them to put on the court. I put more stock in who they scrimmage before the season starts and the ooc schedule as far as MOAC preparation goes.

Sounds more like a shootout than a camp.

Similar but camps normally offer more opportunities to play and it's overnight.

Summer can be really misleading as big schools can sometimes split their squads at events and go with A&B teams or because they share good athletes with other sports they can be much weaker than a strong smaller school that has everyone there. How did they do?

How did they do? We went 6-3. The teams were definitely as bad as I thought they would be. We had our full team, not sure about the other schools. Not sure if this will help or hurt in the long run but we'll see.

But is their games were less than 15 points they were probably playing at the right level to help them. I could see it being hard to work on good fundamentals when you can do anything to score or when your confidence is gone knowing you have no chance.

2 wins were around 20 pts and 1 loss was around 20. The other games were 10 or less. Hopefully you are right, I just would prefer to play teams closer to the conference you are playing in. Not saying it has to be right at the talent level of the conference but I think it would be better if it was at least a little bit closer than what we just played.

Sounds like a good mix. Remember it's summer ball and in many ways the school sizes matter less since many can be without a full roster.

I edited the original post to include the possible adjustments to the MOAC for basketball season.
Has anybody heard anything about North Union not playing an MOAC basketball schedule this season or Shelby switching to the MOAC for basketball season? Will it be like when Upper switched and only had to play football? Obviously nothing is official with Shelby even switching conferences but there has been a lot of talk on here about it happening.

Havent heard one way or the other, but in the past the schools finish the entire school year in that conference. Shelby will likely play in the SBC for football in 2018 and MOAC for all other sports. The difference in the Upper case was they joined a brand new conference.

It will be official tonight. 7 PM Board Meeting in Shelby. Shelby will be a future MOAC member by tomorrow morning. 2. 0 chance the switch happens this season. Standard is 2 years...1 year if it can be worked out. But all have to agree....shelby..north union...all three conferences. Lot of moving parts there. Expect North Union to stay in at least 1 year. Maybe 2. That's it.

From what has been described on here the conference NU is going to will be realigned into divisions so they will likely be in the MOAC for one more year which means Shelby will be in the "new scb" for a season as well.

From what has been described on here the conference NU is going to will be realigned into divisions so they will likely be in the MOAC for one more year which means Shelby will be in the "new scb" for a season as well. The conference NU is going to already has Divisions. Ten schools, 2 Divisions of 5. The CBC has had 3 schools leave since late 2014, Tippicanoe, Stebbins and Greenon. Hardly a stable league, the reason given by some for NU leaving the MOAC. When NU and London join, the CBC will be back to 12 schools. The slight "realignment" will be done for size not proximity, which some have given as a reason for NU leaving the MOAC. NU will be in the Mad River Division with the 5 smallest schools: Urbana 228, Springfield Northwestern 224, Benjamin Logan 217, Indian Lake 199 and St. Paris Graham 166. The travel time to each school is 51, 70, 33, 50, 63 an average of 53. Leaving the MOAC, NU gets away from schools that have 390, 286, 248, 242, 235, 211 and 169, that have an average travel time of 40 minutes. London, also with 228, will be put in the Kenton Trail Division with schools that have 399, 348, 264, 253 and 240. London is probably still looking for a league with similar sized schools, like NU has been looking for. I doubt NU would have been interested in the CBC if Stebbins 463 and Tippicanoe 296 had not left. Apparently the CBC has a mandatory cross over rule. As last year when down to 10 school Divisions, schools HAD to play 3 cross over games. Instead of the usual 2 cross over games when there were 12 schools in the CBC. NU cross over games will either be against schools with over 340 boys or over one hour trips. It sounds like both NU and Shelby will have to play football in their current leagues, this year and next year for sure. It is possible that they could change leagues for other sports after this year, if both leagues agree.

Correct. It has been said the CBC will realign their divisions to adjust for the teams changing. It would make sense that NU stays in the MOAC for the 2017-18 season in all sports and then makes the move. That could work for Shelby to make the move from the SBC at the same time.

That helps explain the difference between distance and location. Good information there.
