So, I'm going to use this thread to throw out some general questions to see if we can't at least talk about SOMETHING... What's the most expensive restaurant you've ever eaten in? City and approximate cost required... For me, it was on the Mount in Pittsburgh with my ex's family. Back in the late '80s, they took me out to eat on Mount Washington at the Altius (I think.) I was a college kid, but it was a shirt and tie affair. No prices on the menu's and I tried to keep the order to something I knew and was familiar with. However, I did have a shrimp cocktail and don't even remember what the meal was. I got a glimpse of the bill at the end and for the four of us, it was over $300 before gratuity. Tomorrow??? Another restaurant question and a more important one....

A white dinner jacket affair at Marina Jack on Sarasota Bay. A violinist serenaded our table among others. The white linened tables were adorned with fresh cut flowers in cut crystal vases. Our (expensive) dining experience was enhanced with the panoramic view of the yacht basin and the bay. After dinner, all four of us descended the winding staircase to the lower level for a night of dancing and good cheer. The evening easily exceeded $400, closer to $500, I would guess.
I'm not in to the exclusive dining experience type of thing, but it was certainly an enchanting night that my wife and I and our friends Jim & Debbie will always remember and cherish.
Kinda felt like the night of my first prom, taking my date and another couple to a fine restaurant....lol

One Dine, on the 101st floor of One World Trade Center in New York. It's not one of those crazy elaborate places with a dress code, but does qualify for the most expensive I've been to, with prices ranging from $24 for a grilled chicken sandwich to around $50 for a steak. Also the most amazing view I've ever had at a restaurant.

What's the most expensive restaurant you've ever eaten in? Does serving the food and then eating the leftovers in the back count? How about eating there and then getting some of the bill comped? If so, the answer for me is any one of the following in Palm Beach. Flagler Steakhouse The Seafood Bar, or the 4th of July Buffet at The Breakers. or a few events at Mar-a-Lago or the Kravis Center but can't really price those.

When I used to be really rich I would get the grilled stuffed burritos from Taco Bell with steak instead of ground beef.

A true "expensive" restaurant is one whose patrones don't care what the bill will be. Thus there are no prices on the menu. One of those restaurants occupies the 84th floor of the John Hancock building in Chicago. There's an elevator in the building that only goes to that restaurant. I equated the ride in that elevator like riding in a rocket. It shook like no other elevator I've been in and your ears pop, but you get to th 84th floor REAL fast. Those who don't care what there bill is going to be can't be bothered with stopping at floors or spending excess time on an elevator. Another restaurant I've been to a couple of times that had no prices on the menu is the restaurant at Muirfield Country Club.

No prices... yes. That scares most of us I think. It's just food, however, the view from Mount Washington over Pittsburgh is glorious. The Pirates were playing that night and you could almost see down into the field of the stadium. As a country boy from Upper at that time I was a little out of my element. Still, it's only a meal...One of tens of thousands you will have in your life. Do any of you really remember the actual meal or simply WHERE it was?

There used to be a fantastic restaurant at the top of the Prudential Building on Randolph Street in Chicago. At the time, the Prudential Building had the world's fastest elevator system and people could zoom to the 'Top of the Rock' for breathtaking views of three states, being the tallest building in chicago at the time. Of course, the John Hancock Center and Sears (now Willis) Tower have taken center stage. Although, the Prudential Building pales in comparison to it's larger looming brothers, it still enjoys a better viewpoint and visual perspective than it's counterparts, with it's location on Lake Michigan's shoreline. The elevators at The John Hancock Center can travel 1,300' to the observation deck in a mere 38 seconds.

A white dinner jacket affair I was THAT guy for about 3 years in Fla, about 6-7 years of fine dining work before finishing my degree, but most of the White Glove Service was in Palm Beach. I will say this.....it is not an envious position. The more money people have, the less likely they are to regard you as a human. Great experience though, if you have thick skin. I've got all kinds of amusing stories to tell the grandkids, from Jimmy Buffet throwing a bike in the pool to hanging out on yachts in what they called the most expensive port(in the winter months) in the world, to watching some of the most powerful people in this country run around in their speedos. Met Trump a few times obviously before he was President, even stood about 200 yards away when he was married.

I've eaten at Alinea in Chicago but we expensed it. $2100 something for my boss and me.

Serious stories South and Torch. First, south rubbing elbows with big shots and $2100 Torch? Ouch.... OK, so this subject has exhausted itself... Big time dollar dining is no more.
