It makes sense and is always good to hear from a guy who previously talked with a guy that knew a guy. OK. I know a few coaches at Maumee and talked with one I have known for about 30 years. But it was awhile ago that we talked about the SBC. He gave me his assessment of what was happening there. I did not talk to anyone in a decision making position at Maumee. I agree it's crazy for BG and Maumee to join the SBC and doubt it will happen. Nothing is going on for awhile so it's something to talk about.

Just read an OHSAA release where Jerry Snodgrass said spectators will probably be limited to immediate families for regionals and state.

It's not like we're talking football. Before I opine, I want to make sure what you mean? I mean that Ross takes their football much more serious than basketball. They will probably wait a lot longer on the basketball coach.

PRESS RELEASE
Findlay High School is pleased to announce the hiring of head football coach, Matt Pees. Following the success and leadership of Mark Ritzler, Pees joins the Trojans after spending two seasons in the NFL as the defensive assistant for the Tennessee Titans, under head coach Mike Vrabel. Working with outside linebackers, defensive line, and quality control in both 2018 and 2019, Pees assisted the Titans this past season to the AFC Championship game. Pees’s ability to evaluate and analyze opponents such as Findlay’s Ben Roethlisberger, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, and Lamar Jackson, has led to the development and recent success of the Tennessee Titans. Pees’s coaching experience and responsibilities included, but were not limited to, film analysis, game planning, scout team coordinator, and player evaluation for free agency and the NFL draft. Prior to Pees’s success at Tennessee, he spent six years coaching at the high school level including being the head coach of Green Mountain High School in Lakewood, Colorado. Pees’ enthusiasm to return to education-based athletics and his desire in teaching the fundamental development of youth athletics while wanting to be a part of our community with his family, led him to Findlay. Coach Pees states, “My family and I are excited to return to Findlay and be a part of such an amazing community. We look forward to continuing with the rich tradition of Findlay High School and developing student athletes. It is a dream come true to be the head coach and serve the community in this capacity. I look forward to having my family grow in the community, and I am eager to get started leading young men to a bright Trojan future. Go Trojans!” Pees returns to Northwest Ohio with his wife, Emily, five year old son, Wyatt, and newborn daughter (this past Saturday), Adelyn. Pees is the son of two-time Super Bowl Champion and future NFL Hall of Fame defensive coordinator, Dean Pees, who assisted the legendary Coach Dick Strahm while at The University of Findlay. “We are blessed to have Matt’s knowledge, experience and genuine care and concern for students. Matt’s relationships with college coaches and NFL personnel will provide multiple opportunities for Findlay student athletes and our outstanding community. We welcome Coach Pees and his family back to Findlay, Ohio, and Friday Night Football at Donnell Stadium” states Nate Weihrauch, Director of Athletics at Findlay High School.

Never mind, my brain stopped working for a minute. I did see your post.... Just to bite, what would Clay and Ross' selling points to get to SBC Lake? They can't pull 'a Clay to NLL' act. Hopefully, Clay learned that lesson. Actually Ross and Clay would be better off if they tried to get teams to leave the SBC Lake and join a league with them rather than trying to please the current Lake lineup.

anything new on this front? Not much from what I understand. SBC is looking outside the box with a couple creative ideas to stay ahead of the next round of changes. Trying to meet with those schools/conferences (NBC, BG, Maumee, Northwood) in coming weeks. Not sure it will come to fruition but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. SBC seems like the only league that actually wants to take action to avoid future problems. Other leagues and schools would rather just avoid change and hope things work out for the best, which is why we rarely see any movement.

The question is...Does he want to "move" again? He's not getting any younger, my guess he's north of 50. THAT and his only head coaching jobs he took over solid programs. He's never had the issue of having to build something from nothing. Do you want to do that when you're getting close to retirement age for a coach/teacher? I don't know that he would even be interested. He's got a pretty good job right now. FWIW, I found a bio on him and it said he graduated from high school in 1995 which would put him at about 43 years old.

Here's an easy quiz. I'm thinking of a coach who was successful at an NCC school and is now successful at a WBL school. Don't know if he would be interested but it seems like a logical move, to me at least.

Thought something was imminent when they called a special "Executive Session" board meeting for tonight. Regular board meeting will be Monday night so I guess they decided to get this out of the way first.

Oh, i totally agree that this is not going to end well. One of the leading contenders for Superintendent is Troy Roth who came to Findlay with Kurt from Margaretta. And he's interested in the position? That would be surprising if the issues mentioned were the reason why Kurt is going back to Margaretta. Apparently he is interested in being Superintendent. Kurt does have family in the Margaretta area so it's not the only reason but it probably makes it easier to leave. Hard to say if Roth is comfortable with the current situation or he thinks he can handle the BOE. At least he knows what he is getting into.

Interesting. Ritzler's been there since 2005? 2006? Some good years and some challenging ones? What's a reasonable person's sentiment? I do know Findlay wants to get away from the Catholics nearly as bad as Fremont. Findlay and Fremont share a long history of league misfits. Apparently the new school board wants "winners". Already got rid of the baseball coach (Rucki will take that job). The board is not taking into consideration what league we're in, they just want to win. God only knows how long this will last and how many coaches we will go through.

I do know a family that moved to Marysville so that their daughter could be closer to her gymnastics coach. He works at Marathon and said he doesn`t mind the drive. Also know a couple of guys who work in Toledo and live in Findlay. All sorts of crazy out there.

Couple of things that I picked up over the holidays. First, when Marathon transferred/added a lot of employees to Findlay work force Findlay City Schools was supposed to benefit. Apparently someone was telling those employees to live in Perrysburg and commute. When outgoing Marathon VP found out he was not a happy camper. Some are doing just that although hard to tell how many. Findlay continues to lose students to Liberty-Benton as well. Finally, for now, Findlay School Board wants Mark Ritzler out as Head Football Coach. Should know something soon. Current Findlay School Board has decided that they should be in charge of all decision making. Part of the reason current Superintendent is headed back to Margaretta.

I didn't read the article but I do know that a #8 seed wins a state title by outscoring every team they play in the state tournament. You know, like Clyde did.

The SBC will invite Ashland and Lexington then. Possible Mansfield Senior. Madison, you are off the table! If the SBC invites Ashland it seems like they are getting dangerously close to schools the size of Ross.
