Brent Fahle steps down as girls coach at Upper Sandusky. States wanting more time with family as reason in the Upper paper.

Does he have a young family? I find it interesting how some coaches can coach for 10 years and have kids the entire time but when they step down use family and time commitment as the reason.

To be fair he does have some young kids. It is also possible that he would like to get back into coaching boys again. After all he was a boys assistant coach under Deibler.

I wasn't trying to be unfair, I was only asking the question because I don't know his family. I knew he had been the Jv coach for the boys but after 8 years of coaching girls he may want a switch.

What some of those statements about spending more time with the family mean. The wife has had enough of taking care of three young kids by herself. She gives an ultimatum. Most us get them for one thing or another.

It's hard to be a coach's wife. I did it for several years, and he gave up coaching when our kids got into their own activities and needed carted everywhere. He's chomping at the bit to get back into it now that our youngest is in middle school and a couple are off to college. I don't blame him at all for resigning.

He was an assistant with Deibler at Gibsonburg and Fostoria as well as Upper. Then coached Uppers girls the last 8 years. Between all that adds up to 16-19 years worth of coaching basketball..so don't blame the guy for hanging it up. He's also seen the writing on the wall I'm sure. Uppers girls program is going to be down for a while now..

Yes, for one season. Then the upper job opened up, which is where he teaches and lives. Might be the best girls coach we've ever had.

That's not always by choice.

There's several underlying reasons that make the time away from his family not worth it anymore.

That's not always by choice. The coaching fraternity has one of the biggest networks of any profession. If "not by choice", one can almost always find a new coaching job at some level, somewhere. There are restrictions outside of a desire to coach. Keeping a teaching position, the spouses job, not wanting to move to another city.
