Time to get this season started!!! The Bucyrus Redmen travel across Crawford County on Friday night to take on the Galion Tigers at Unckrich Stadium and get the 2018 season started!!! Galion won 34-0 last year at Bucyrus and is now 14-8 since the Seccaium Park Trophy was created. Galion has won the last 9 in this rivalry with Bucyrus last winning 10-9 in 2008. Thoughts on this one.....

I assume Galion will win, but will be pulling for Bucyrus since they are a common opponent for my Pirates. Good luck and good health to both teams!

So looking forward to Friday night football!!! Bucyrus May be better than past seasons but I still think Galion will win by at least 2 touchdowns.

A few thoughts from this one. Galion looked sharp in the first and third quarter. At least if you don’t count the opening kickoff. Bucyrus really looked sloppy with too many penalties and turnovers. Galion’s offense was able to move the ball well. The second quarter wasn’t as pretty. But they looked sharp again after halftime. The fourth quarter was bothersome with 2 unsportsmanlike penalties where someone must’ve said something they shouldn’t. Hopefully they can straighten that out. They will have to play well all four quarters next week at Carey.

You'd like to see more consistency, but it was week 1 and most teams are saying the same thing. I felt pretty good about the offense coming out of the scrimmages. The D was iffy but Shelby and Highland were both playoff teams who will be playoff teams again this season so you really couldn't tell how good or bad they were. As long as we stay healthy along both lines we should come out of this with 5 or more wins. We'll see next week.

I'll go with Carey in that one.

We shall see. I'd feel better if it were a home game but I think we'll be fine. Our line play is much improved from what I understand.

I was about 50/50 on how the Tigers "looked". Some good, some bad, but overall it was a "W". Galion's passing game looked nice in the first quarter (especially). I had predicted 34 - 7 as a final score, and the actual final of 37 - 13 was fairly close to it. I think the final score, next week against Carey, will be the same, but with Carey coming out on top. I really do hope the Tigers surprise me and prove me wrong.

Did I miss when Cary became a football powerhouse? We have a much more evolved offense than we did last season. You touched on it with the passing game we couldn't do that last year. We'll be fine.

Carey returns a lot of experienced players from a playoff team that beat Wynford in the playoffs last year. How long has it been since Galion was a football powerhouse?

About the time when the NCC folded and we had to start playing real competition again.

Yea, guess I was wrong. You never really were a powerhouse, just played a bunch of smaller schools.

Can't argue with that.

I guess you might say that I'm expecting the worst, but hoping for the best, in a manner of speaking. Carey Blue Devils: STATE CHAMPIONS ~ 1975 STATE FINAL FOUR ~ 1994 STATE PLAYOFFS ~ 1975 1993 1994 2000 2001 2003 2007 2008 2009 2011 2017 LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS ~ 1975 1978 1979 1986 1992 1993 1994 2000 2003 2009 2013
Granted, the level of competition is different, but they still must know how to "win". It looks to me that they must be doing something "right" there ? ! ? ! ? !

Nobody is saying Carey is a pushover. I simply believe that Galion is better than you think. I said in the preseason that this game will be the litmus test for us. If we beat Cary then we win at least 5 games and have a shot at 7. If we can't then we won't see .500 this year. We are much better along both lines of scrimmage than we have been in about 4 years(whatever year that was when we got smoked by Edison). Now granted will will have to stay focused for more than 2 quarters this week.

This year because Carey just beat them by essentially the same score as you're predicting that they will beat us by.

This year because Carey just beat them by essentially the same score as you're predicting that they will beat us by. I thought you'd say that. It's merely a coincidence about the score prediction. I made that prediction before I ever checked out the other score. I simply thought that Carey was a bit tougher AND that they know how to win. We haven't proved that we can (and/or know how to) "win" (in the last couple of years), we've merely proved (based solely upon our .500 season last year) that we can break-even. We'll see, come Friday !
