Any conversation on the D1 finals? I am looking forward to it, especially most of the upper weights?? In the lighter weights, does Nick Lee come back and get Riveria at 125? Is 133 as stacked as it looks or does Micic run the table? Does "the Bull" get his first NCAA championship or does Vincenzo do it again at 165? Lots of unanswered questions and upsets to come this weekend. How much fun might it be to see Nickal get upset, although not likely at 197? Me and the TV have a date this weekend....

125 Piccininni over Rivera, Lee and Bresser fight for third 133 Fix over Micic, Suriano loses a close match to Micic in semis 141 Yianni over Mckenna, Yianni with the major 149 Jordan over Ashnault, third times a charm 157 Nolf over Berger, Nolf on another level 165 Marinelli over Joseph, Marinelli matches up well with Joseph 174 Valencia over Hall, Valenzia redeems himself over Lewis in semis 184 Martin over Rasheed, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Rasheed go down before the finals 197 Nickal over Moore, Bo will get bonus points 285 Steveson over White, Gable gets revenge over Cassar in the semis

Nice breakdown...
However: I differ in a few weights....
125 - Taking Lee to surprise them all... 133 - I think Micic shows up this weekend too... 141 - agree with Yianni 149 - I would love to see Jordan do it... 157 - Nolf all day 165 - Agreed....Marinelli is a beast 174 - Valencia again.... paybacks a beetch! 184 - Martin is the top of the class here. Part of me wishes Nickal was still here because martin actually could wrestle that junk with Nickal! 197 - Nickal all day.... anything less has to be considered a major upset. 285 - Cassar.. a lighter weight wrestling the big boys... he built himself into the weight and I just think he is the class, although watch out for the next three years of Steveson..

Nice call on Rasheed at 184 by the way. Lost today in the second round of wrestling to Ness from UNC. Catching it on ESPN or trackwrestling.com for brackets..

Kinda like poetic justice since he defaulted to Martin in the B1Gs to protect his seed. Yea, I use Track to find the mat and watch it on the ESPN app.

OSU still has all ten in it too... it’s a long stretch to think they could win it, but a solid second is really a possibility with scorers in position.
GO BUCKS!!!

Marinelli may have matched up well with Joseph, but he didn't match up well with Lewis from Virginia Tech. Lost 3-1. Joseph with a big sigh of relief.

Hidlay got ripped at 157. Nolf is a hell of a wrestler but I really think Hidlay got screwed.. maybe twice..

McKenna got ripped off in the final in that last sec takedown. And D played it like it was part of the plan. Kid now thinks he’s all that and a bag of chips... last year he was humble and happy to win. This year? Much more a dick...

Just one last point that stuck with me from the NCAA tournament... Not one single wrestler from OSU won his weight class... The great hope was pinned on Myles Martin, but after his last second loss to Dean from Cornell, not one wrestler was higher than second. Ten wrestlers advanced to the nationals and all ten scored resulting in second place hardware for tOSU. That says a lot about "the team."

And all but Hayes and Martin wrestled to seed or better. I got to give Cassar credit, I thought his win over Steveson in the B1Gs was a fluke, but he reinforced that win with a win in the finals. I thought 133 & 125 were the toughest weights based on the number of hammers in each.

The wrestling gurus have been talking all season about anyone in the top 15 at 133 could be All-American and after really watching them wrestle...yup. That's a factual statement. I really like Lee at 125 too. Two time NCAA champ and he just gives me the impression that he is still humble about it and that he recognizes his competition is stiff. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to wrestle at a light weight like that. I haven't seen 125 lbs since I was 11 years old cutting to make weight for pee wee football.
However, I wasn't real thrilled with some of the calls. I realize I am a layman, but I have watched thousands of matches over the years, and my gut was telling me that if I make a call as a referee, I'm not going to overturn it a minute later. They need to have an independent ref review from the booth, or at least something along that line. Some type of final authority figure or figures, at least at this level. Wrestling for a D1 NC is second tier only to an Olympic or World medal, so I think the NCAA could spring a few bucks to at least make it LOOK like they give damn how hard these kids work. Even then, I realize that it takes some of the power of the mat ref away, but moves happen fast and at that level, these wrestlers are incredibly talented. To ask a ref to overturn his own call is almost assinine IMO.
