With 2 a days right around the corner, it’s time to get some discussion started about the upcoming season. Here is the schedule: 8-17 H Highland (scrimmage at 10 AM) 8-22 A Tiffin Columbian (Jamboree Scrimmage) 8-30 A Bucyrus 9-6 H Carey 9-13 H Upper Sandusky 9-20 H River Valley 9-27 A Marion Harding 10-4 H Clear Fork 10-11 A Shelby 10-18 A Ontario 10-25 A KIPP Columbus 11-1 A Pleasant
4 home games and 6 away. I heard a rumor they were trying to flip flop with Pleasant but don’t know if there is any truth to that.
There are a few holes to fill especially at quarterback but they return a lot as well.
Thoughts.....

How is the KIPP game going to affect their computer points? Scrimmaging Columbian then turning around and facing two D6 schools is a little odd but that's northwest ohio for ya

According to OHSAA open dates Purcell Marian and Linden McKinley were both available week 9.

I won't speak for Purcell Marian, but if a school had a choice of playing KIPP or Linden McKinley, then KIPP would be the better choice for computer points. Linden McKinley has won 2 games or fewer in each season going back to 2011. I don't have the specific math on it, but generally playing a school that is 0-10 or 1-9 is detrimental to your computer points as opposed to having a "bye" week. I'm not sure about 2-8 teams, but it must be pretty close with that as well.

The KIPP game will at least allow the Tigers to fine tune things a bit prior to playing Pleasant in Week 10, who will undoubtedly be tough again this year. Having to play 6 away games and ONLY 4 home games is really quite bizarre, if you ask me. Go figure...…..

That’s the unfortunate part of playing in a conference with 7 schools.

What near by school would you like as number 8?

What near by school would you like as number 8? Big Lex, which doesn't seem to be embraced as #8.

What near by school would you like as number 8? To my knowledge there has only been one school that reached out to all 7 MOAC schools about having interest in becoming the 8th member.

I have a hard time believing everyone could’ve changed their schedules that easily. Everyone already had contracts in place when this discussion came along.

Lex would’ve had some advantages but they sure would’ve dominated in most sports. I’d like to see an 8th team as much as the next person but not just add someone for the sake of adding them. That happened before with Harding and then some schools didn’t seem happy with that.

I think it was meant that Harding was an added 8th school for the sake of it, despite it potentially not being the best fit, as opposed to it being a statement on their relative dominance/lack thereof? (I am not intimate with the relationships of Marion Harding with the other MOAC schools) I wonder how often a league invites a new member school who would immediately be seen as the dominant force in money sports? Lex would definitely rule the roost when it comes to basketball in the MOAC.

Shelby and Ontario both beat Lex last season in boys basketball and the girls team has been below .500 for the last 4 years or more.

There are two ways I am viewing the idea of Lex in the MOAC (which I am in favor of, no question). The first is that my view of the MOAC is that it is a lesser conference than the SBC, NOL-defunct, and OCC are. If Lex is winning the OCC All-Sports trophy most years, then I don't see how the MOAC wouldn't be an easier league for them to accomplish such a feat. The second is Lex's relative success compared to Shelby and Ontario (we know how they do against Clear Fork via the OCC).
Over the past ten years, Shelby has 52 football wins, Ontario 47, Lex 46. Give them all the same strength of schedule during that time and I bet Lex winds up with the most wins (I'd still take Shelby as the winner here because of the 2017 team with their 45 ppg average margin of victory, although that 2011-2014 stretch was not good).
Basketball (boys), it comes down to Lex with 177 wins over the past ten seasons and Ontario with 179. Lex has more tournament wins, including that #1 upset AND a tougher schedule to boot in all those ten years. I think a neutral party would pick Lexington.
As far as the other sports go, I think it is a mashup of sorts. Baseball seems like Ontario's gig. Track/CC is a split between Shelby and Lex over the past decade. Girls sports, I give Lex the edge in volleyball and Shelby the edge in basketball and know nothing of Ontario's.
I just think Lexington would have an easy go in the MOAC. A very easy one. Shelby and Ontario can give their punches, but I don't trust Harding, Clear Fork, Galion, River Valley, and Pleasant to consistently battle Lex with success.

"maybe tennis"? DEFINITELY girls and boys tennis. Definitely boys swimming. Definitely girls swimming. Definitely girls Cross County. Maybe boys Cross Country. Maybe girls Track, Maybe boys Track, Maybe golf. Maybe Volleyball. How many times have you told us that Lex has won the OCC all sports trophy? Almost every year. If you take one player off Lex basketball teams the past 4 years, they have good teams, not very good teams. Not that it matters to Ontario. Like it didn't matter to the NCC that they wanted Ontario to join their league when they were bigger than other schools. COME ON wussy MOAC members invite Lex. No other school wants to join the MOAC. Like the NCC did to Ontario, if you get tired of them, get rid of them. Unlike Lex, Harding hasn't come close to dominating anything, in a weaker conference.

I would agree in thinking Lex would do well in the MOAC over all but when you look at each sport individually, Lex would provide good competition to the MOAC in all sports. Unlike what a few schools in the OCC does. If you look close at Mansfield, the school that everyone seems to fear, they have been extremely poor in all but 2-3 sports and provide nothing to the total league competitiveness.

Who gives a shat what Lex did in the OCC, that's irrelevant. The question of dominance pertains to what they WILL most likely do in the MOAC, where they want to be, running away from a more difficult conference.

Dude, that was legit said to me by a board member from a school and various coaches in two leagues, haha, I laughed, but its a sad state of affairs when that is something that could be a hold up. and it goes on other places where sometimes they won't add a school to a league because they are only good in one of the revenue sports and are terrible in the others. trust me, that wouldn't stop me from adding lex to a league if I had a vote. If they are a good fit, they are a good fit.

Could you imagine the revenue the ticket booths would get from Lexington playing Clear Fork, Ontario, Shelby, Galion and River Valley twice in the revenue sports? I have been told that the games with Ontario, Clear Fork and Shelby generate a large portion of the annual football revenue depending on who is the host school.
